[INTERACTION/PUZZLE?] Letter from Stevie Mae 12/01

Quote:
Hi Alexandra,

I could sure use more friends. I wish I had fairies here. They could help me look for muh... my Daddy. I do puzzles with my Daddy, but he... He didn't come ho... Home last ni... ni... night. Uncle Seth and Davi and the Orbicops are out looking for him right now. Uncle Seth said he doesn't think that Daddy left on the New Dawn, but he aske Davi to contact it and ask the Captain to look for him just in case.

I don't feel like doing a puzzle right now.

My head hurts.

Raidar take that sentence out, please.

um,

Stevie Mae, your pen pal

Sounds like she was dictating this to Raidar. Possible puzzle in here with all the extra/missing letters?

So far the people in IRC don't see a puzzle here at all.

darn Smile Was hoping for a good puzzle.

Here was my response to Stevie:

Quote:
Stevie,

Are you scared. I would be so sad if I couldn't find my daddy. Can I help you find him?

I sure hope you find your daddy soon!

If you need anything from Earth, let me know. My mommy said I can send you things if you need them.

Who is Raidar?

I hope your head feels better soon.

Your penpal,
Alexandra

Just to cover the bases...
If it was an email in HTML format, there might be more clues in the source.
That edit by Raidar looks funny. Not just the fact that he kept the actual instruction in the message. I'm wondering if he might have taken it out by making it white, etc.

Hey team. So when Stevie gave her email during the chat I of course ran right off and sent her an email. Well I received a reply this morning and here it is:

Hi
Space Princess Stevie [spaceprincess@maefamily.info]
To: Lisa Anne

Hi Lisa Anne,

Davi said I should do something so I don't keep thinking about my Daddy. Um... Space is ok. I have fun play.. Raidar, don't put in the sniffles, because pen pals should hear about good things so they don't get upset too.

Uh, the most fun thing is riding in the New Dawn, um, the elevator thing. It has windows. The space station, Raidar what did they name it? Wasilei station doesn't have any windows. We have to go to the port, thanks Raidar, Port Rosetta, to see outside. It was fun to get out of the New Dawn and watch the room move past us. Then when we are on the as.. steroid side, to watch the New Dawn turn around and around. I liked going with Davi to watch it arrive.

Raidar, I don't ... just say,

Sincerely,
Stevie Mae, your space pen pal

So now I understand why she spells way better than her dad, Raidar actually does the writing, she just dictates to him. I am going to send an email back just going with the pen pal thing. I don't want to frighten her off just yet, but she will definitely be useful later. If you have any thoughts what to put in my reply pm me

What's going on here? Again it seems like something is msising from the message. "Just say"... what? I get the feeling that we're not seeing whole messages.

Possibility A: Something is intercept the messages between the station and earth.

Possibility B: Raidar is the one editing the messages. He is a SAIPets prototype and we don't know what kind of programming he's got. He may be programmed to prevent certain bits of information from getting out by.. someone? SAIPets? CARTS et all? Seth?

Possibilty C: I'm reaching and seeing things that aren't there.

I had assumed that it was "just say...sincerely..." - that is, there was something that struck her somehow (not physically - you know what I mean), but she decided to end it then and in that manner.

But "missing letters" and "good puzzle" don't work well. Razz

Since when is Stevie "writing" emails by dictating them to Raidar? Since he returned from his "improvement"? I forgot why he had to go, I have to check on that. I believe it's quite difficult to dictate what you want to say, so I'm not seeing missing letters but just a girl talking and stammering at what to say through her sorrow for her dad...but then again, I don't remember any of that dictation from her blog.
I assume she has written what's there by herself? Except for that last entry which contains the same stammering (I doubt she'd type that way to get her mood across or something...).

Edit: Raidar's upgrade was a Christmas present, of course. Got it.

Yeah, that's what I thought too... she just went on dictating the end of the letter, which Raidar put on the next line as a proper ending.

this little girl rocks

I love that little girl. Here's our correspondence:

Hello Stevie,

My name is Caspian. I have been very interested in the space station you live on and I stumbled up on your blog. I just wanted to say that your daddy will be in my thoughts and prayers. I will pray that a special guardian angel is sent to watch over your daddy. Try to be brave and not worry too much. Your daddy sounds like a very smart man and I'm sure he will turn up alright. This whole thing is probably just a big mistake.

I have also emailed Davina and she told me that she teaches art at Wasilei Station. I would really love to see some of your artwork. Maybe you could draw a picture for me? Lions are my favorite. If you are still looking for penpals, I'd love to volunteer! Anyway, it was very nice to "meet" you over the internet and give your mommy and Davina a big hug for me, okay?

Take care,
Caspian

Hello Caspian,

Did you know that there is a book about a boy named Prince Caspian the Tenth? He lived in Narnia. He didn't want to sit on his daddy's throne, he wanted to go exploring. There is a movie coming out soon that I want to go see, "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" it's about Narnia too. Do you live in Narnia? Daddy says that Narnia is just a made up place, but I wish it really did exist sometimes. I wish I had a magic coat closet like them. Then I could go ask the talking animals to help me find my Daddy. Wouldn't Dr. Martha make a fuss about them not knowing how to use her toilets!

I'll draw you a picture of a lion and have Raidar add it to this message. Have you seen Davina's pictures? She has them on her page in my family's site! Shhh… we aren't supposed to tell her daddy about them. She doesn't want him peeking. If I drew a picture I'd want to show my daddy right away. I don't think Davina likes her daddy very much.

I'll take care of Raidar, and thank you for sending a special angel for my daddy.

Your friend,

Miss Stevie Mae of Wasilei Station in the country of fair Asteroid

This girl blows me away. She is very smart and well spoken for her age. I think that not only will she be a good source of information, but she will be a lot of fun, too!

valentine

So I wrote back to Stevie this morning. Here is the email.

RE: Hi
To: 'Space Princess Stevie'

Hi Stevie and Raidar!

It was great to get your email. I live in Ohio and it is freezing cold here right now. There is at least a foot of snow outside. I have a dog too, not the robot kind though, and she loves to run and play in the snow. Her name is 01110110 01100001 01101100 01100101 01101110 01110100 01101001 01101110 01100101. I attached a picture of her so you can see what she looks like. She is 6 years old but only weighs 31 pounds. She looks just like a puppy but is really an old lady. Do you play games with Raidar? My dog and I like to dance together. She likes hip hop. What kind of music do you like? Can you listen to radio from earth on your computer? I know you get to see movies. I haven't seen the new Harry Potter yet. My dad and I are going to go see it next week. I have read all of the books though. They are very good.

I am very sorry your Dad is missing. It is good that you have Davi there though. She sounds like a very good friend. Plus, I am sure your dad will be back in no time. Maybe it's like a big mystery for you to solve. Kind of like how you and your dad like puzzles. Do you have any clues yet? Maybe we can figure it out together J I like puzzles a lot too. Crossword puzzles are my favourite, but I like all kinds really. My gram always used to say they keep your brain fit!

The New Dawn sounds like lots of fun. Kind of reminds me of Willy Wonka. That's too bad that the station doesn't have any windows, although I bet it is for safety reasons. Willy Wonka is one of my favouritest movies ever! What's yours? Oh, and my favourite colour is red. It used to be gray but now it is red. What's your favourite food? Mine is pizza.

Well I should go now. I have to go clean up.

Hope to talk to you again soon! Oh, and if you want to message me, if you have yahoo instant messenger in space, my name is teh_lisa (teh not the).

Your earth friend,

Lisa anne

Give Raidar a pat for me!

Space Investigator Stevie [spaceprincess@maefamily.info]
To: Lisa Anne and Valentine!

Hi Lisa Anne and Valentine!

Raidar sends tail wags for you! He also said to tell your doggie 01010111 01101001 01101100 01101100 00100000 01111001 01101111 01110101 00100000 01100010 01100101 00100000 01101101 01101001 01101110 01100101 00100000 01101111 01101110 00100000 01000110 01100101 01100010 01110010 01110101 01100001 01110010 01111001 00100000 00110001 00110100 00111111. And that is right after my birthday!

Valentine is a pretty girl, is she sitting in her favorite chair? What tricks does she know? Raidar knows how to speak, and he can flash some lights and wiggle his ears, and receive radio frequencies. He helps with my homework sometimes, but only on the spelling and not when I have to learn how to spell it by myself. Daddy said I have to teach Raidar manners so he will be welcome anywhere he goes. He has special dog biscuits that I give him when he does a good job. He doesn't eat them, he just gets to carry them around for a while, then we put them away. Daddy said that if the pet store can work out all the bugs, they can make bigger dogs to be service animals for people who have trouble moving and stuff. Raidar can pick up things that will fit in his mouth if it is on the ground. I'm teaching him how to do that so he can teach the other dogs how to help people.

The food here is ok, but sometimes it tastes a bit bland. Mommy says that taste buds have to work harder to taste things in the lower gravity. She gave me a piece of candied ginger and I had to just nibble it a little at a time! It is sweet, but it is also hot-hot tasting, the same way that peppermint is hot-cold tasting , so only try a little nibble until you know if you like it. My favorite food is grilled cheese sandwiches, and I like ice cream for dessert.

Uncle Seth is going to go search the station, um, Wasilei Station for my Daddy. I'm supposed to stay in my home but, I have to go look for my Daddy. I need to be a space investigator. Do you know what a space investigator does? They investigate what happened and look for clues. Raidar is going to help me look for clues, and we are going to follow Uncle Seth around too, even though we are not supposed to do that.

I gotta go, Dr. Martha is asking if anyone remembered to feed me breakfast this morning. She doesn't have any kids of her own. Maybe that is what makes her so grouchy most of the time.

Your space pal,
Stevie

Hi Alexandra,

Raidar is my dog. He was made by SAI Pets. Raidar is a good dog. He knows many tricks.

You sound so much like Dr. Martha. She always uses short sentences with me. Daddy said it's because she doesn't have kids of her own. She stopped using them one day after I was with her when she was trying to loosen a bolt so she could unclog a drain. The wrench slipped and she yelled "horse feathers" so loud it made me laugh. I told her Daddy always yells Supercalafranglishis when he hurts himself. I told her that Mommy always poured hot water over lids that don't want to open. We couldn't use hot water, but Dr, Martha got a heating pad and we wrapped it around the lid and sat talking for a few minutes while the lid warmed up and expanded just enough to let her open it. We went back to her room after so she could clean up and then she took me to the cafeteria for some ice cream and asked me if I wanted to be her special helper for opening stubborn lids.

I don't know how you can help me find him when you are down on the ground, unless you can see if he steps off the New Dawn when it arrives at the ground half of the station in a few days. That's in the Maldives, and near the equator, so the space part of the station doesn't wobble to the north and too the south. It's on an atoll with just the farm for the chickens, bungalows for the people who work in the ground base, the big building that has lots of computers in it, and the launch pad for the New Dawn. You can't miss it, it is the only atoll that has a black carbon nanotube fiber cable that goes up above the clouds. Just like where they go to meet Lando Calrisian and Han Solo gets frozen in a big block of stuff and taken to Jabba the pizza Hut.

My Daddy likes to wear his special scientist lab coat, it is blue and had bunnies on it. Do you have any private investigator stuff? I am going to follow Uncle Seth around; so I need a magnifying glass so I can look for clues. My address is Stevie Mae, 42 Wasilei Station, One Road to the Stars, Malé, Maldives.

Your pen pal,

Stevie

Raidar is my dog. He was made by SAI Pets. Raidar is a good dog. He knows many tricks. <br><br>

<br><br>

<br><br>

<br><br>

Your pen pal, <br><br>
Stevie<br><br>

Stevie's favorite food seems to have changed (or her parents don't know what she really likes the most) from maccaroni with cheese to grilled cheese sandwiches.

Following Seth seems like a good idea. Stevie is cool. Razz

Actually, Abraxas, that's fairly normal. Kids that age often change favorite things (ie foods) like their parents make them change socks. One week its macaroni, the next its grilled cheese... two weeks from now, it'll be hot dogs.

another email, this time with photo

So I replied to Stevie at 2am this morning and already received a reply. I wrote:

Hi Space Investigators Stevie and Raidar!

You both made Valentine very happy, and I think she blushed. She said to tell Raidar, hnb, r fruu kn hxdab. onkadjah oxdacnnwcq rb jubx vh kracqmjh! mx hxd qjen j yrlcdan xo hxd?

Yep, that is Valentine's favorite chair. She likes to take naps on it. She can sit, stay, lay down, and dance. Your dad is right, it is important to teach dogs good manners. Valentine is a very good dog. She like to give people lots of kisses. Sometimes too many kisses and I have to tell her to stop and go lay down. I don't think Valentine would be a very good service dog. She doesn't like to put anything in her mouth and carry it around. She won't even play with a ball. I think it is because she is old. I bet she and Raidar would have fun playing together though.

I don't think I have ever heard of candied ginger. It sounds very interesting though.

Valentine and I have been investigating here on earth too. Yesterday there were 2 chairs on our front porch. This morning when we woke up the chairs were both gone! We found footprints in the snow and looked at them with a magnifying glass, but then my neighbor pointed out that they may belong to the mailman. We took pictures of them anyways, just in case. Have you found any clues looking for your daddy? I have never met your Uncle Seth before but I bet following him is a good idea. Brothers usually have a good feeling for where the other one is. At least that's what my dad always says. I also was thinking that maybe your daddy disappearing is meant to be a puzzle for you. I mean maybe he planned it? Just to see if you could solve it and all. I don't know, just a silly idea.

Sorry it took me so long to write back, by the way. I got stuck doing chores all day today. Now the house is spic and span! Do you have to do space chores? It would be cool if you had robot maids to do them for you.

If you have any clues about your dad that you need help with let me know.

Your earth pal,

Lisa anne

The code to Raidar says:

yes, i will be yours. february fourteenth is also my birthday! do you have a picture of you?

This is the reply I got today:
Quote:
Dear Lisa Anne and Valentine,

Raidar says to tell Valentine, Pdwjg ukq bkn ukqn leypqna, ukq wna w lnappu cenh. Dana eo w leypqna kb ia ej pda hwx kb Yknzahew Iwa. Oda dwo xaaj bkhhksejc Oapd wnkqjz. Da dwo w happan ej deo dwjz pdwp Oparea swjpo ia pk pwga w leypqna kb. Skqhz ukq hega pk oaa ep sdaj E zk?

I'm sorry that Valentine doesn't like to play with toys. Dr. Martha is old too, I think it makes her cranky to be old. I bet Valentine never gets cranky because she loves you.

Uncle Seth isn't my real uncle; he is a just very good friend of my Daddy. I think my Daddy may have left Uncle Seth a clue, because Seth doesn't seem to be inquiring (that is a new vocabulary word it means asking) much. He is looking around for stuff, but he doesn't know where he should start looking. I want to help find my Daddy too, but Uncle Seth won't tell me anything that he needs help finding out.

Pneumatic tubes deliver our Mail. Daddy said that sometimes old technology is the answer to new problems. Do you think the Mailman saw who took your chairs? Dr. Martha had some fake snow made in the Tundra section of the Garden, but she complained that it was too coarse to be like real snow. Does Valentine like the snow? Raidar says that snow is wet and bad for his circuits.

Your space pal,
Stevie

I have attached the photo of Raidar she sent me. This email came from Stevie Mae (not Space Investigator Stevie as the previous one had). The code from Raidar says:
Quote:
Thank you for your picture, you are a pretty girl. Here is a picture of me in the lab of Cordelia Mae. She has been following Seth around. He has a letter in his hand that Stevie wants me to take a picture of. Would you like to see it when I do?

i will of course have Valentine tell Raidar yes.
