perplexcitymap.com - Interactive Map (powered by Google!)

Well, I've spent the last few days getting the Perplex City Map from the back of the cards to work in the Google Maps API. So far, you can scroll around and zoom (there are 4 zoom levels, with the closest being the 60dpi that we all know and love). To zoom in on a specific point, double click it in the zoomed out view to centre it, then zoom in with the buttons.

If there's enough interest I will add things like popup markers for all the info boxes, a search function for important places, and if I go real crazy maybe the ability to search for streets.

Here it is: Perplex City Map

(thanks to Brian for the solid map images - saved me a bit of work)

Edit - Changed to new address

That looks brilliant. What would be good would be if you could do a search on all the information on the map pieces so you could easily find buildings/streets/homes/places of interest.

I would help but I can barely work a toaster.

If you have the ability do this though let me know and I could help collect all the information on the back of each card to save you a bit of time if you wanted.

Great work though.

That's my eventual plan. Hopefully when I'm done you'll be able to do a search and anything that matches the search will be marked on the map.

Adding all the street names to a database looks like it's going to be a sizable task, so I may take you up on that offer. I've figured out a way that I'll be able to create a form next to the map so I can just click on a location to mark its position and then type in the details, but even then it will take a while.

Now all I have to do is find the time to continue working on it...

That really is some amazing work, the next step of course after making the map searchable would be to add links to relevant articles in the wiki. Then a true Resource Of The Gods would be born Smile Congrats again.

Version 2 is now up! You can now search for any text on the map and have the matching results marked with markers. Click a marker for the name and any additional information about the location. There are three types of markers - Places of Interest, Subway Stations, and Streets.

You can also select to view all locations of a particular type. Please note that if you do this for Streets or Places of Interest you may experience some lag as there are a lot of locations to be marked on the map. In my tests Firefox didn't have a problem with it, but Internet Explorer was a lot slower and almost froze at one point.

Features that I have planned for the future:
* Ability to link directly to the results of a specific search or to specific locations, so that if a location is being discussed somewhere it can be easily linked to.
* Links to relevant Wiki articles (thanks to Enigmaster for this idea). I'll have to think about this one, whether it would be best to just link the location name to the article if available, or if I should add an extra link at the bottom of the info boxes for it.

If anyone has any other suggestions let me know in this thread or by PM.

To the people who offered to help entering data, thanks for your offers, but I realised when I started entering it that there was no way for me to see what I had and had not entered, so I just had to start from a point and move my way across the map so that I didn't miss anything or put anything in twice.

Just finished making some updates to the map. It's mostly just new data that we've gained from our experience with the Police, rather than new functionality:
  • Fixed up the PXCPD precinct markers that I quickly threw together earlier. The markers are now in the approximate locations of the dark squares here, most of which lined up with a building or group of buildings on the map. It also now shows the boundaries with lines.
  • Thanks to the same Police page we now know the shape of the sections of the city that we haven't seen yet. These sections are now shaded on the unavailable sections of the map.
  • The addresses for Violet, Anna, and Sente have been added as detail to the existing markers for their homes. I also added the approximate location of Cymbalisty's apartment (search for his name to find it), but we don't know exactly which building is the Mimasan Block.
  • Ascendancy Point! I'd been thinking about adding the image from here for a while. Unfortunately we don't have it at full (60dpi) resolution yet, so it is unavailable at the maximum zoom level.

I also implemented a better resize function so it should fit better to the browser window now.
