[Tales from Earth] Collaborative Story (META)

pickwick the second wrote:
I must pose an inquiry as to the extantiality of sarcasm in your previous post, sir. Are you, indeed, suggesting that the story is to be ended as it currently stands...

I did indeed just suggest we end this story here. We are at 2,200 words, and i think it's safe to say the level of chaos evolving isn't going anywhere useful anytime soon. It's a nice story, sure. goofy and nonesensical.

Ollie's got a terrirific idea putting this last bit in .. it seems like a fFairly fFitting end. It doesn't really conclude anything, but then this story never was intended to tell much of anything anyway. This at least makes it meaningful.

We've got about 20 more days to write it. Whilst people are having fun, why stop now? Its just starting! Why be put off or stumped by someones contribution, work around it, play with it, have fun.

I think that the discussion about the story interupted the flow, like people talking in the cinema. Now, thankfully, we have this thread Smile

(is there a limit to how much we, as a team has to write?)

Ok, so the story continues. Here's the current running threads to think about when writing:

*Who is the dark man in purple?

*Why was he in the VR system?

*Does anything else in the VR system matter?

*What does the note mean?

*What happened in the country, and why did she shut herself off fFrom that part of her life?

i don;t think that we should pretend to oursleves that collabrative fiction is EVER good. It's mainly rubbish.

It's usually rubbish

Let's use the story for a bit of childish enjoyable fun and not really concern oursleves if it makes no sense but use our individual efforts as the main 'bbook' we submit to Violet. If it coud tie together as a coherent story it would be a bonus rather than an objective I feel.

If the collaborative story continues to grow at a sufficient rate, we may find ourselves able to submit more than one book. Given that there is no limit to the number of separate written works we may submit, there is little reason to fear that any individual piece, should it be ever so long, will interfere with the overall effort, or of the publication of other essays into the literary world.

Agreed. I give the story another 10 posts before the plot starts becoming absurd again. It's not like there's anyone to blame for it either. It's just that when you have so many different people who all want to tell a different kind of story, it all gets jumbled up and incoherent. The story goes from a murder mystery to a science fiction adventure to a comedy to a spy thriller in the course of 2 paragraphs. That's partially the reason why I stopped the plot and decided to give it a second chance with the whole VR thing.

Plus, the main character's name switches back and forth from Georgina to Georgiana quite randomly. It all makes my head spin, really.

Well at this rate, the story could become a crazy mindf**k!!

It's adding to the word total at least...

just to keep everyone on track, there's now 4 people in the vacant station square: Georgina, the man who snuck up behind her and said "watch", her now-vacant-father, and Ellen. No idea who the "watch" guy is (well I mean, ok, he seems like he'd be third power operative O8. but why is he there?)

He's there because I was very, very tired when I wrote that section. Sorry! Embarassed
When Chippy started the story, he admonished contributors to refrain from "rudeness." Is that limited to profanity, or could the current goings-on be classified under that heading?

i think that a high quality parody of classic english literature a la DH Lawrence could only ever be construed as high art and never true rudeness. Having said that it is all getting to the point where an obscenity trial might not be a bad thing...... Embarassed

Again, I must protest the direction in which the story is going at this time. Is this really the image of Earthlings we wish to send the Perplexians??? Shocked

So change it then! Smile

You could blow them all up with an ignited methane belch from a nearby cow and refocus on the compact mirror as the hero. Although please no one remove another VR helmet...that way madness lies Rolling Eyes

[Edit] 444th post...what the Twisted Evil am I doing?

And we even got some traces of Adams' style with that fellow choosing to become non-existant. Laughing

Seriously though, our editors are going to be having seizures and mental whiplash while they try to fix that string of barely-coherent nonsense.

This is what always happens with these stories: one silly person goes and derals the whole thing, often irrepearbly. Though the surprising this about this one: it wasn't me who did it. Rolling Eyes

well...what has she got to do and why?

Actually...it doesn't matter does it? I'd quite like a rolling pin to figure along with the word tracklement, which I came upon this weekend. It means accompaniment to meat, such as mint or cranberry sauces etc. Hmmmmm.
