We all know you're twelve and three quarters Ollie, but there's no need to sound like it. Wink

Incidently this whole idea seems a bit wank-good luck to you though.

there is no reason at all to slate the new guy. His comment was hardly cutting, not even necessarily aimed at you. In your own words he "registered less than a week ago" we don't want to scare players off, your comment came off as catty, and n00b-flaming, and I know that you're better than that. Come on, man. Chill.

The new 'guy' is a gal, FWIW, and she's pretty much flame-proof by now... and not scared easily.

The comment was not directed at anyone in particular, just a general observation, but I can rephrase it if you like? Suggest that myself and Juxta take this to private mail anyway. Not really the concern of anyone else here.

Back on topic, submitting the code as part of another article, for example on "the perils of over-complex coding" might work; pretend it's part of another text rather than an independent submission?

How about this for a tricky code?

It's for fun more than anything but it's slightly less obvious than Binary.

Just for ease of solvings sake, it's in English - don't fancy doing a deep thought out code just to find out it's in Esperanto!

Submissions

Forgot to mention - my article has been emailed over today.

Not a whopper, but an insight into the most widely played games in the world. A little surprised that nobody else already wrote about it.

Looking forward to receiving my copy of the manuscript though and reading everyone's submissions!

Oh well, a pleasant surprise that the the only snide comment came from someone who registered less than a week ago...

Perhaps next time I'll complete the sentence in my post, rather than just in my head, then it'll be clearer, nobody will gleefully misinterpret it and I won't sound quite so much like an ass - "...a week ago, because they are obviously lucky enough to not have seen the previous history in this sorry and rapidly becoming excruciatingly boring episode."

Duckiemonster - I'll pen you a PM right away, but let me publically apologise for both the original, ill considered comment, and the negative slant subsequently thrown across it.

OliverKeers13 - I don't tend to mince my words, there is not a "certain animosity" between us any longer. As far as I'm concerned, ignoring you and pretending that you just don't exist keeps me in a much fluffier place. Like I said, my attempts at education in good manners didn't exactly bear fruit. Hence also the reason that I steered well clear of the whole "book" and collaborative writing idea, once you had started with this "Me! Me! Ooh, get me into the book, I'll be even more special then! Look at me!" kick. A good self image is one thing, self promotion is quite another - and having the ego and methods of Max Clifford is yet something else still.

As I alluded to in the previous post, I dropped this matter weeks ago, just could not be bothered with dealing with you or your antics any further. Yet, you've continued to poke at it, and I take great exception to you mislabelling me as "n00b bashing" and scaring players off - especially when it's such a clear case of "Mr.Pot meet Mr. Kettle".

Frankly, I'm so chilled that I sit inside my fridge in order to warm up each morning. Now, kindly, do everyone a favour and run along.

Scott - a D20 module for an ARG? Good criminy man...seek help.

So. Anyway. *Now* can this be dropped?

J

Ok, time for an executive editorial decision.

As no-one has come up with either a subtle or devious a code to ensure only someone of the Third Power would get it I am of the mind to just drop the whole thing and get on with it. The simple fact is that unless the code was hidden in an image or something then it would almost certainly have been lost or corrupted when Seaside edited and DTP'ed the text.

I think a more obvious solution would be to perhaps include coded messages into articles for the 'View from Earth' column as these can be more subtle and spread out over a longer period of time to alley suspicions.

If anyone has a screaming desire to include the code then please PM me but otherwise I think that we need to move on...

Brilliant.
Reason wins again, sledge!

This also does the favor of us not having to run around screaming, trying to find a code in time for the print.
Now we can focus on getting that happy medium of 3P-only and decipherability.

Alright; I'll make a new topic for however we decide to do the code.
But, we'll leave the book as its own work and make the code a project in and of itself.

PS, boys: formality in vocabulary doth not cancel emnity.

Scott, your RPG outline is awesome, and you are now my hero. I have great plans to reach the highest level as a Cubist and rule the game with my mad skilz. Cool

Hi

If you wanted to put a code into the book, why not use a simple first letter code on each page, and if you only want to target the 3P then why not use the following (or something similar):

V or C. Think we need to talk. Meet at Helipad. Take off time. Three months on.

If you started the code on the 25th page and put an advert of:

"Join the Father, Son and the Holy ghost for a special book signing on the 25th"

somewhere in the book, it should be clear its a message for the 3rd Power, if they know anything of earth religion.

Just an idea

Bel

Woohoo!! thank you!! Smile yeah, cubists are pretty nifty combatants. thick with fFervor, them. Not many fFeats tho, so it offsets it a bit. I think Academicians have the coolest stuff, tho their saves are rubbish and would be really just not the person you want to take into combat.

By the way mokey, I dont think i've said, but I really really like your piece in the book Smile beautifully crafted Smile you seem to have been inspired or something, eh Smile i'm just spellbound by the imagery.

I wouldn't imagine that the 3P, or the Perplexians in general, would have trouble with our codes. Lets face it both Riemann and 13th labour are things they consider solvable, so much so that they seem a little surprised to realise that we are are not going to get them Smile So lets just go for a microdot on the first 7 prime letter I's or something Razz

But would they trust anything we send? No way! They have already clearly indicated that they have infiltrated us, any one of us could be a 3P mole. For the same reason its almost certain that any code they send us is a trap, just like last time.

They're fantastic! There's an awful lot of talent hiding in the unforum knowledge pool!
