Hey all! Who's the editor on the Earth side? Ellen is requesting a status report...
Quote:
Dear Stacy,
I have passed your question about the cover image for the book on to our printers, so we should be hearing whether it can be a wraparound and what dimensions it will be. Obviously this depends partly on the length of the manuscript.
Regarding the manuscript, could you send over an outline of your progress so far, so we can give you some feedback?
Yours sincerely,
Ellen Moriyama
Editor, whoever you are, if you could PM me with your email address, I'll refer her over your way. Thanks.

My games essay has been slightly delayed because I have to write an essay on photography "How accurate is it to say that photography is a modern medium?" for my course.(I've done half the games one though at the moment) I have sneakily decided to just slightly adapt the photography one, and refer to how Perplex City does not use photos and such. So I should be able to contribute a total of 3500-4000 words.
EDIT But if people think the photography one wouldnt fit, I'll scrap making it a book entry and just submit it as a View from earth article for the sentinel. What do people think?

Having looked at all of the submissions so far it is about a 50/50 split between articles directly related to games and others that just give more of a flavour of everyday life on Earth. Because of this I propose that we split the book into two parts with the first containing the works on games and the second being just the more general 'Tales from Earth'...
I've just PM's zaeil with the latest status report I have, but we are still some way from the 45,000 prefered word count. (I know I keep banging on about needing more submissions, but hey, that's part of the editors job )
I've got a couple of days off work so I am going to have a bash at collating all we have so far and sorting out some sort of rough running order so that we can get a feel for how the book will scan. I'll report back once this has been done.

I don't have any time off work right now (and might have to work the weekend too, stupid transit strike looming). I do have some free time while at work and will continue with the editing of stuff on the Wiki, or anything emailed to us at the tales.from.earth gmail account.

I've added another short (1331 word) story to the wiki.
http://wiki.incognitus.net/ppc/index.php/Tales_From_Earth:Spay%27s_Invaders
Again any feedback is welcome. Feel free to correct any silly mistakes. Anything more seriously wrong with it than typos/grammer, then let me know.

I picked that one up. It's a very interesting idea and I liked the way you've turned a simple theme on it's head. I've gone through it and think it's pretty much good to go as it is.
However, we seem to be missing you Biog section from the Wiki so if this could be added?
Cheers.
David.

I've got one submission finished and another on the way ... how long does it usually take to get a wiki password? I mailed to ask for one this morning, but I am aware that the deadline for the project approaches quickly and that I may not have much time to spare.
I mailed it to the tales.from.earthsplatgmail.com address as well, hope someone is reading that

Hitruro - I just picked up your mail from the G-Mail account so this has been added to the pile!
I'll add it to the Wiki as well for you in case the Mods there are taking a weekend off
Many thanks.

Ive added another short puzzle called "The Rebel Pirate", which can be found here: http://wiki.incognitus.net/ppc/index.php/Tales_From_Earth:The_Rebel_Pirate
Im looking at doing one more, and then perhaps doing some space fillers on them.

Not bad! Of course, the ideal situation for the editors would be to have enough material not to have to use it all! Or is the intention just to edit the submissions for grammer and spelling and then include everything that was offered.

I guess if we get over 50,000 words then we may need to look at being selective on stories as I guess the publishers (or MC) don't want to be producing a 'epic'.
On the other hand, as we are pretty much 'self appointed' editors I don't think it too fair that we just ignore submissions and I feel that anyone who has made the effort of writing and submitting a story or article deserves to be included.
