Science Experiment...

So, its that time of the year again, when teenagers like me get to waste a month or so of their "lives" planning and carrying out exploding volcanos. This year, though, is different.

I plan on making a video with subliminal messages to see if they really have an affect on the mind. I was thinking of playing the infamous "Torgo Theme" from "Manos" Hands of Fate, but I can't seem to find a suitable one. The only ones I've found are either 3 seconds long, midi files, or fade at the end so if I were to loop it, it would sound funny. Any suggestions on where I might find a good Torgo theme?

In a day and age where there have been people blowing themselves up at colleges in the U.S., making something that goes 'boom' would be the height of idiocy. It's not even worth discussing.

How about iodine crystals and Turpentine? It makes pretty purple smoke!

I agree taking anything that volatile to school would likely get one arrested in most towns. Even with the excuse of a Science Experiment.

Gunpowder is a lot less volatile when dry, but it would be just as stupid to use it in the volcano.

Subliminal messages. Experiments have been done and lets say.. marginal results. Placebo's even score higher in effectiveness. There is no real way of getting reliable feedback. Questions like: "Did you feel like drinking coke after seeing this movie?" have more effect on your testsubject than the actual film.

Remember this statement?:

These stunts are done and/or controled by trained stuntmen. (Famous Station Wink ) discourages anybody from repeating these stunts or send us video's.

On taking dangerous stuff into school:

Nathan Zohner, a 14-year-old student at Eagle Rock Junior High School in Idaho Falls wrote:
BAN DIHYDROGEN MONOXIDE!
Dihydrogen monoxide is colorless, odorless, tasteless, and kills uncounted thousands of people every year. Most of these deaths are caused by accidental inhalation of DHMO, but the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide do not end there. Prolonged exposure to its solid form causes severe tissue damage. Symptoms of DHMO ingestion can include excessive sweating and urination, and possibly a bloated feeling, nausea, vomiting and body electrolyte imbalance. For those who have become dependent, DHMO withdrawal means certain death.

Dihydrogen monoxide:

is also known as hydroxl acid, and is the major component of acid rain.
contributes to the "greenhouse effect."
may cause severe burns.
contributes to the erosion of our natural landscape.
accelerates corrosion and rusting of many metals.
may cause electrical failures and decreased effectiveness of automobile brakes.
has been found in excised tumors of terminal cancer patients.
Contamination is reaching epidemic proportions!

Quantities of dihydrogen monoxide have been found in almost every stream, lake, and reservoir in America today. But the pollution is global, and the contaminant has even been found in Antarctic ice. DHMO has caused millions of dollars of property damage in the midwest, and recently California.

Despite the danger, dihydrogen monoxide is often used:

as an industrial solvent and coolant.
in nuclear power plants.
in the production of styrofoam.
as a fire retardant.
in many forms of cruel animal research.
in the distribution of pesticides. Even after washing, produce remains contaminated by this chemical.
as an additive in certain "junk-foods" and other food products.
Companies dump waste DHMO into rivers and the ocean, and nothing can be done to stop them because this practice is still legal. The impact on wildlife is extreme, and we cannot afford to ignore it any longer!

The American government has refused to ban the production, distribution, or use of this damaging chemical due to its "importance to the economic health of this nation." In fact, the navy and other military organizations are conducting experiments with DHMO, and designing multi-billion dollar devices to control and utilize it during warfare situations. Hundreds of military research facilities receive tons of it through a highly sophisticated underground distribution network. Many store large quantities for later use.

How would you vote? This kid took this flyer to school to test how gullable his schoolmates were. Results were not amazing, he got overwelming support. Twisted Evil

I can't suggest anything to do with subliminal messaging, however, if you want to have some fun for a science project, I can suggest this. Add iodine crystals to ammonia solution. This forms Nitrogen TriIodide, a highly volatile substance when dry. Keep it wet, then put it in a place where someone will touch it! It goes bang! be careful, though, 1g of the stuff can blow a hole in a blackboard.
doing this experiment would be silly and you shouldn't do it. EVER

Speaking as a Science teacher, this is (without mincing any words) the stupidest idea for a science project anyone can suggest. If my students ever caught wind of such a "cool' experiment and tried it out, the results could be catastrophic. Shame on you.

Your Size=1 disclaimer was insulting. I would suggest using your head before posting this kind of dangerous, destructive advice ever again.

I know, which is exactly why I'm keeping my questions as abstract as possible. I'm not even telling them if there are really messages in the film. I had to do a background report on the subject and have been trying to keep the nasty little placebo bug from infecting my experiment.

If you need help looping it more than it already is, let me know, I can help out. MP3s are inherantly unloopable without glitches.

Ahh, High School Science class. i think the craziest things my class has done, have all been my science teacher's fault. He's so cool!
Here's what's probably the coolest thing we have done yet is:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Nope. I'm not gonna say...because it's heavily dangerous too!
