For those looking to send care packages - the military no longer accepts packages sent to "any soldier" however it is possible to send packages to those who have agreed to receive them and hand them out on your behalf.

Not necessarily....I worked as a postal augmentee for a couple weeks just recently, and saw a lot of packages addressed to 'Any Male Airman' and 'Any Female Airman', mostly from churches. However, I think you *do* have to provide a squadron and APO code.

So, that being said, and since I'm the resident deployed ARGer this holiday season (HINT HINT, WINK WINK), here are some details for ya:

SrA David Andrews
379 ECS/SCBM
APO AE 09309

Thanks, and have a wonderful Christmas...

What kinds of things would you and your fellow soldiers like to receive?

Um...just about anything, lol. Candy is always popular - especially gum, as the gum that they sell over here is always 10 years old! Besides that....um.....I dunno! lol

I didn't think anyone would actually bite Very Happy

I am so glad you posted, taozero, don't be embarassed. Whatever political views one may hold, IMO it's still important to remember that the men and women in the armed forces are our neighbors, friends, and family, and kindness is always good policy. I'd be happy to send something over that may help make an overseas assignment a bit more bearable for you and your comrades.

Of course the best way to support our troops is to bring them home safely, but I won't get on my soapbox here. Smile

How long are you going to be in Qatar?

Um, I'll be here for another 29 days exactly (Hopefully exactly, anyways...things have a way of becoming screwed up over here Very Happy)

If anyone wants to send stuff, I'll gladly distribute it to the grateful members of the 379th Expeditionary Communications Squadron Very Happy Things get pretty tough over here, especially now that we are smack dab in the middle of the holiday season, so I'm sure a little love and thanks would cheer up just about anyone over here.

You've listed gum and candy. How about DVDs, Cd's, magazines, books, games, and do you guys need things like shaving cream, toothpaste, and such?? We don't want to send things you don't need or can't use. Smile

Well, if you want to get all high dollar on us... Wink

Yeah, CDs, DVDs - especially of movies that have come out recently - magazines would be cool, since things here seem to be about 3 months out of date.....books are always a good choice, those could be donated to the library here (which is depressingly small and full of the same books you see at the BX here...although I found Sean Stewart's Perfect Circle here, lol). Games that you can play outdoors are cool, like cards and stuff like that (always in need of good drinking games, when we get the chance to drink Very Happy)....

As far as hygiene stuff, don't bother, there is plenty available at the BX Very Happy

You're so welcome. I had a great time going through Costco putting things in the cart. Very Happy

I hope you don't have to do another rotation, but if you do, let us know so we can send more goodies.
