The Best Music site ever- no seriously

Just over two months ago http://www.pandora.com/ launched.

I just foudn it yesterday, and it is the BEST. THING. EVER.

These guys spent five years cataloguing hundreds of thousands of songs by their different musical qualities, and Pandora uses that to give you a custom made rasio station, tailored to your unique tates.

You input songs that you like, and it anazlyzes the qualities they have, and crossreferences them, to play other songs it thinks you'll like. And then it plays them. You give it positive or negetive feedback to fine tune this.

Now, I'm a person who has never found a radio station she could listen to for more than a ferw minutes of time, and I have to say

This, ladies and gentlemen, is my new god.

Tried 5 of my favorites, did not know them. When I typed Cole Porter it gave me some...well not Cole porterish stuff.
Sorry to say, I'm not impressed. I guess its my taste in music thats not in the scope of the makers.

I'm impressed by the amount of spot-ons thus far, without many misses. A couple, but not bad... not bad. Doesn't recognize some obscure artists or niche artists, but that's ok... that's why they're niche or obscure Smile

Yeah, Pandora really does rock. I've been using it for about 5 months, now.

Highly recommended.

Me too. A nice feature is the thing where you can set up different channels. You kind of have to massage them for a while, though. You set it up by giving it an example of a band you like, or a song, or whatever, and the first few suggestions it gives you are usually pretty hit and miss, but if you don't like one of their suggestions, just say so, and it skips to the next one. Eventually, you can get your channel narrowed down to where you'll like just about everything on there. Then you do the same with all your other channels, and eventually you can just skip back and forth between them as your mood changes. Also, wicked cool design on the site itself.

It's funny, people who use Pandora tend to talk about it in slobbering tones, lots of, "This is the most amazing thing I've ever seen in my life! The designers are excellent candidates to receive my reproductive seed!" Who woulda thunk you could make a living making mix tapes for people?
