By playing with the contrast and brightness, there seems to be
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
large "325" behind the letters. Edit to add: The picture shows a thorn on stem.

So maybe clues to keys for the cipher? /edit
P.S. Kudos to Sin on the previous solve.

Here's a done-up copy of that image, so people can see it better.

So we all worked on this together in IRC:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Take the text and make a 10 x 10 grid with it. Reading down, in German, it is a quote from the book The Little Prince. I emailed thelittleprinceSPLATmaefamily.info.

From there, you get a new email:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Little did the ADT members know that Bronco had his own plans. He could see the world population increasing, and the need to develop new territory for people to live, to work, to play. The space race was fading and the new shuttle fleet had become bogged down in bureaucracy and delays. After learning about the asteroid, he had started to craft a plan. He set his Orbicon team to work on his special projects while he worked with NASA to glean all the needed information and resources from them. The U.S. government was preoccupied with other concerns at the time and didn't realize what Bronco was up to. It seems that there has always been something else to be preoccupied with.

Thanks,

Steven

I have trouble linking the actual words, but here are the links from the email:

Why... Why must all this progress be made during finals week... All of my class stuff prevents my involvement...

... I think I'm going to go cry now...

But first, trout me if you will if this is being discussed in IRC, but I did a quick little analysis of the movie/game given in the last link.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The filename is star.swf, but inside is a single bit of text: TWINKLE

There might be more I'm not seeing, but I tore that file inside out. I was able to determine something might be up by looking in the scripts.

There are two variables. One called counter, one called star. When certain conditions are met using the buttons in the file, the counter increments up and down. I'm too far out of the loop in flash programming to know what it means, however.

Though I can't shake this feeling that I've done something wrong...

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the title of the page and the URL sparked a small thought.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Might be nothing, but... http://home.pacific.net.hk/~rebylee/text/prince/5.html
Speculation: Von Neuman (spelling?) would be proud?

Observations:

1. There is only one triangle shape that can't be colored. Well, that's not completely true...there is another very tiny one that can't be clicked which could be or could not be intended. It's at the top border.

2. Four shapes are connected and light up at the same time if you click one of them. One of those shapes is touching the non-colorable shape at the top corner with its lowest corner.

3. Those four shapes, when colored, produce smoother edges than the rest of the shapes...might be nothing, again.

I'm not sure but perhaps we should count all the triangles in this picture? Which could get a bit tough...

I was trying to paint a baobab (well, a simple tree Razz) but no way...
And I've tried both, draw it using colored and uncolored shapes... well, I've never been good at drawing Rolling Eyes

So if you look carefully, you can see that
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
in the centerish (a little up and left of center) there is a five-pointed star that you can make out of five shapes. Filling it in, the word "twinkle" comes up. And e-mailing twinkleSPLATmaefamily.info
gives us our next link in the story:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
During the summer of 1975, I began my internship at NASA. I quickly became "one of the guys" despite being young and only an intern. It wasn't your typical job for a 15 year old, but I was quite a determined young man. I grew up during the Apollo Age and knew when I was only 9 that I wanted to be the next Armstrong or Aldrin.

One Friday, I returned to work to pick up my backpack that I had accidentally left under my desk. Right as I was leaving the power went out. I called out to see if anyone was around and when no one answered I walked around looking for someone who might still be working.

I remember thinking it was strange that nobody was around. There were usually at least one or two people working on a late night project. I went to the computer room to see if one of the tech guys was there investigating why the backup system hadn't kicked in. In the semi-darkness I saw someone messing with one of the tapes. At first I thought it was a technician, but after a few seconds realized that he was a little too "built" to be any of our technicians. After this mysterious man was finished and left the computer room, the power came back on.

I went into the computer room and looked at the cabinet that the man was standing in front of. Everything seemed to be running so I really didn't think much of it at the time. I decided that I would just tell someone about it in the morning and left the building. If only I had known a bit more about what was going on at the time or if I had just told someone...

Thanks,

Steven

Well, that was thankfully easier than what I suggested. Razz

I think decompiling the flash is cheating, isn't it?
In that case it was.

The next one:
Ho-hum. Maybe something happens by accident... Laughing

I'll admit that I did read Machina Kyrios's post above detailing the flash decompilation, but I didn't e-mail the appropriate address until I really figured it out. Actually, the most helpful part of that post was when he pointed out the name of the flash file!

@Shelina
I directed this at Machina Kyrios, not mapmaker. Sorry for the confusion.

WOHOHO I DID IT!!!!

Just a matter of patiend and try&error...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Being initial state first position, rotate forms to get
- green: first position (left it as it is at the beginning)
- blue: second position
- yellow: third position
- red: third position

and you get COVERLET

Mailed coverletSPLATmaefamily.info and I got:

Well, actually I did tell someone. Unfortunately, it was Bronco. The morning after the strange power outage, Bronco called me into his office. He started questioning me about the previous night. He said he saw me "sneaking around" alone in the dark hallways after hours. I tried to tell him about the mysterious man I saw tampering with the tapes in the computer room, but he accused me of doing it myself! He showed me the security tapes and the building security logs.
According to the evidence he had, I was the only one in the building that night.
He told me if there was any sort of investigation, I would surely be the prime suspect. If only I were a little older, a little wiser at the time... I might have stood up to Bronco. I was only a scared kid.

Thanks, <http://www.maefamily.info/steven/warmandcozy.html>
