A Code For Ollie (Non-TFE)

Alright, so, if we're adopting sledge's plan to scrap the code until some other good medium presents itself, then we should keep thinking of codes to use and how to slip them past the Perplexian public while the 3P can intercept.

So, remember, when posting a possible code, try to follow these things:

* make it sensible for 3P operatives to use; try and incorporate some means which only they can use
* make it undecipherable or overly cryptic to the Perplexian public; don't need scandals
* be sophisticated in your method; a single ROT encryption will not do
* establish a means of contact so 3P can reach Ollie when/if the time comes

So, medium difficultly, 3P can decode, nobody else can.

Ready? Here we go!

IDEA #0001
Make the 3P logo into binary art (looks like binary to decode, isn't).
For example:

01001010
01001010
01001010
01111010
01001010
01001010
01001010 HI

And, in a center box, put a message in real binary, maybe something like, "Ollie wants to talk business. [method of contact]", or whatever.

IDEA #0002
Vignere cipher with O-member password as key (watch, joy, etc.)

Come forth and show your ideas, supporters![/b]

Theoretically we could make it ludicrously difficult and then post the answer here and Mind Candy would still know the answer so propably just go along with it anyway. I know Idea how about we encode an audio message into an image, stick it on a card and then give it to mind candy with somekind of enigmatic message on it like... uh.... clarify or divine or elucidate or something. Tres originale n'est pas?

Is a one-off coded message really necessary? Why not play them at their own game?

It would be relatively easy to set up a nice little website-based trail that leads to a 'secure' password-protected zone, where there's the option to leave a message.

If we assume that 3P will be looking at the View from Earth in the Sentinal, an email address could be slipped in, set up with an auto reply that gives the first web address, leading to another and another and so on.

Everyone on the forums would have access to a 'read only' password, so we can monitor what's going on. This removes any aspect of "you didn't tell us that" that might arise; this also means that the responses to any messages can be decided collectively.

I thought that the in game story was that the only contact between PPC and the Earth was through the Academy?
I'm sure I read that originally although it seems to have been stretched and ignored at times with the existence of 3P based websites being available on Earth. (Although there is still a good chance that a 3P agent is part of the Cube hunting team at the Academy??)

We know that there has been a suspicious increase in traffic in the link and (more appropriately) that there are probably 3P moles in the Academy so I think it's perfectly logical to assume that they control at least part of the earth link and, consequently, can see any site we direct them to. What I am interested in is whether any earth sites are offered to general Perplexians in the same way sites are offered to us.

An internet trail would make it quite simply secure against non-3P Perplexians since Academicians wouldn't be in the habit of a) telling the Sentinel that Earthlings are defecting to the other side or b) making random seemingly personal sites available to the general populace. It wouldn't matter if we used a View From Earth to publicise the trailhead. And it would be great to have a transparent ongoing conversation a la the Advisor.

OOG, I'm sure MC would have a bit of fun solving it if the person monitoring the forums showed discretion in passing on the answers. I'm sure if we made it impossibly hard they'd get their revenge in the 3P not getting it. Giving them an Elucidate puzzle to solve does seem like perfect revenge but might not be a good IG idea. And if they don't want to develop the story that way, it'll still be fun.

I like the idea of using a giant image as a 404, then embedding a message in the image somehow.

Or doing that but have the message be part of the 404 itself, so the fact that it's an image is just a red herring.

Oh, and, BTW, this is still only assuming we do so; we need a real, honest poll on this first; but, it's good to complie ideas regardless.

Just didn't want to alienate the opposers.

CARRY ON! Very Happy

My idea for a double-layered cipher: rotate the text, and then use a multiplication cipher. A multiplication cipher is when you take a letter, note its position in the alphabet, and multiply by 6 or 7 or 8 or any other number. Make sure you use the same multiplier for every letter in the message or it won't be readable.

Like this 7x multiplied message for example.

119 14 70 7 / 70 154 49 140 / 49 140 126 / 49 140 154 35 119 / 21 14 70 126 35

Actually that was a spelling mistake. Not a good move in the encryption business. Crack my sig if you like. Very Happy

or you could use a nearly impossible code to crack - write the message in welsh!

Very Happy

(before the abuse starts i'm welsh myself and can speak it fluently, it was only a joke!)

Hey, why not use urban slang? I mean, we've got UrbanDictionary.com, why not put it to use?

Or, write it in 1337. Only Von would understand!

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
how about we write it in binary, and then give the number 1 an arbitrary value like 7 and 0 another like umm.. 14 and then times both numbers by an ever increasing number and then use rot-5 number encryption insert nulls after every fifth letter, remove spacings and then write the whole thing as ascii art and then steg it to a picture so that it mirrors the shape Smile, and of course make sure the actual words are rot-13-ed first.
eg.

424221424284424242422184428421844284
214221842184424221...

(This isn't fully encrypted yet, so it should be a cinch...)
