Man, I was gone for a day, and a whole page has unfolded. Also, good job blaqueice on the solve. This is definetly becoming more and more interesting.

Wouldn't you think that kain is going "overseas" to either escape any possible mishaps? Further, do you think he migh know anything about the posters that Jack is going to be putting up, because if you think about it february is only a few weeks away. Also, if you remember a previous statment by Jack that if he does not register every 24 hours information will be realsed (this is a safeguard if in fact he dies, leading me to believe that he knows his end might be coming). Lastly, understandibly we are taking the side of Jack, but is there any slight chance that he might be leading us on a wild goose chase and feeding us lies?

Just a few questions before I rest.

Hmmm...it would make sense that Mr. Kain wants to go overseas to evade any inquiry from the law with regards to the murder of Vincent (I think that was his name Crying or Very sad ). I really hope Jack doesn't die, but he does seem prepared in case such an event happens. I'm hoping once we get to the 'poster search' in February that it will become more easy to trust Jack because we'll be receiving more open information (hopefully).

((ACK, sorry for all the posts))

I think there's a new picture up at Drawing. It sort of looks like a neon-coloured cell or ameoba with some letters underneath.

Here's the original image: http://www.sanger.ac.uk/Projects/T_whipplei/gfx/t.whippelii_500.jpg

The picture I found is about twice the size as Trevor's, with only half the amount of KB. Maybe evidence of some kind of stegged info?

The reason Jack's image is larger is because it was saved in adobe photoshop, which automatically saves a thumbnail of the image, along with the image proper, along with a bunch of other random junk.

his image, minus the above thumbnail, is 12737 bytes, just over 1/4th the size of the original.

if you're looking for stegged data, you might as well throw out the image proper, and focus on the thumbnail, which has an awful lot of random nonsense after the thumbnail proper, including XML (xpacket) and after THAT, comes the really odd stuff. I'll keep hammering on it, but if there's a clue inside the file itself, barring the "ciphertext", and steganography, which I highly doubt at this point, that's where it'd be found.

Are there no other graphics hackers present?

Incedentally, I can't guarantee that that thumbnail image will be available at its current location forever, so if someone wants to snag it and throw it on photobucket or something, that'd be spiffy. I'll edit this post and change the URL if someone sends me a replacement.

I'm new at all this, but I'd love to give it a whirl... of course, trying to use Camoflague on the image requires a password and I've tried the following:

whipple
whipplei
one
neo
enduringlove
BX072543
bxahcfed

none of which opens it.

I'm not sure what else one looks at, besides the source code for the picture and the page. Is there a way to convert the adobe code into anything else? What kinds of possibilities are here?

I've tried Vigenere-ing the ASCII at the bottom of the image too, using the same words as when trying to uncamo the image. Still nothing.

So, I don't know if he's changed it but the name of the jpg is now: 004551.

Don't know if that makes a difference.

Ok and tried JPSeek..said passphrase is wrong, so I don't know if this indicates that there is a passphrase available, or if it says that even if theres nothing hidden on the jpeg.

My guess is that the text below will give us the passphrase to unlock the pic if this is the case..

I was guessing the picture somehow contains or alludes to the passphrase/keyword to unlocking the cyphered text at the bottom.

The last picture was "warning"
this picture is "disease"? or "whipple"?

I gotta go to bed... my husband laughs at me enough as it is

Here's the bio on Whipple, evidently a Nobel Laureate:

(And, FWIW, T. Whippelii anagrams to "hippie wilt")

Email from Jack. His ACWE forum is up.

http://www.anothercontestworthentering.com/contestforum/

I've signed up, as have four others, apparently. Any vote on if we should move this there?

NC_004551 is the genome number for one of two Tropheryma Whipleii genomes (the other is NC_004572)

See complete genome here: http://www.genome.ad.jp/dbget-bin/www_bget?refseq+NC_004551

Is our code some sort of sequencing format?

Was wondering that - there are 20 amino acids (in any one organism, I think 22 or so total) and 21 letters in that code. Certainly neither that code, nor a ROT13 of it could be an amino acid sequence (no amino acid has code O), but it _could_ be.
