Well, if I do remember correctly, at the end of The Game when he was signing all those papers, he was pretty shocked.... Wink

If that's the case, their communication is still rather unprofessional isn't it? I mean, they use different slogans on their site and in their e-mails, also, they call theirselves "Customer Recreation Services" as opposed to "Consumer Recreation Services" like in the movie, and I do not think that that has anything to do with possible copyright evasion, as they do call their service "The Game"....

The text on their "Clients" page is vaguely suspcious, as well as the fact that apparently they have tons of employees but only 9 "Magister Ludi". It all has a weird feel to it...

The newspaper article isn't mentioning MrGamer, and pulling someone into a van and "abducting" him isn't exactly the degree of creativity I expect when I read what Mister Gamer claims to do for 50.000 euros...

[EDIT] Also, having the "please enter your personal game code" dialog box right there on the main pages really intrigues me Smile

I call horsepoo on this one.

I don't believe it's a real business. It's too shoddily done, the website is full of over-hyped claims, and there's been precisely zero coverage of the company. The site claims to run "several ARGs a month", yet we've never heard of it. Indeed, the only external reference to the site I've been able to find is the Wikipedia article itself, which is of course editable by anyone. (I searched Google for "all pages that link to http://www.mistergamer.com/")

I don't believe it's an ARG because it's simply been around for too long, and I think even established PMs would have got itchy by now.

So in my opinion, it's either a total hoax or a a guy hoping for someone to cough up $50,000 up-front so he can go and make the game they've asked for. (It is interesting that the login box actually appears to do something, though.)

I pretty much agree with you, although while the domain may have existed for quite a while, the content may have not, it could still be recent... the fact that there's a link to there from a Wikipedia entry about ARGs is also interesting, as the ARG-community isn't exactly their target audience...

If I had to chose between scam, joke, game or real, I'd go for "joke" at the moment...

Tell you what. I'm goign to try and get an interview (not representing ARGN, but if I get one I'll certainly send them it). I'll tout myself as a representive of the ARG Community as a whole. Now...

I want y'alls help thinking up a list of questions to ask. I've got a few bouncing aroumd, but Id liek to assemble a list in case I get the interview. Interviewers alwasy have question lists to guide them.

Maybe we can learn more abou tthe thing. Like if its real.

So, what should I ask?

I believe the reference to gamer in the wiki entry for ARG's has been removed, as has the source code on mrgamer.com that revealed the email address gameSPLATmrgamer.com.

I say 'i believe' they have been removed because there is a sincere possibility that I'm ridiculously wrong.

I nuked the Mr Gamer link, I confess. While it may or may not be real, I don't really feel it belongs in the Wikipedia entry.

Disregarding everything regarding the website, the hyped-up marketing-speech and the unlikely stats - the thing that bothers me the most is that NONE of us here has heard of it. How likely is that?

Of ALL things in the world that we should know about, a real The Game would be it, don't you agree?

I can't be 100% sure, but I seem to remember visiting the mistergamer site long ago, before it was posted here.

There has been content there about "customer recreation services" since 2002, so the ARG-like content has always been there...

Quote:
Carpe Diem. Seize the day.
You have everything and yet there is always something missing.
You've experienced all types of happiness.
Discover something else within you.
What is round that next corner?
What are you there?
This is a gripping adventure. Feel it.
What else do you need for unlimited freedom?
As long as you are responsible for your choices you design the future.
Therefore, this Game is safe.
You have only one life. Live it.

The world of the Game, which has been described in fiction and brought to the screen on numerous occasions, is now realized in practice. At any moment we can offer a client from any country adventure of any configuration. The Game is that 'something' always missing in one's life. Novelty in perception and reality of events, an open-ended adventure, planned but unpredictable, a unique possibility to visit another dimension of reality. No special skills are required; all that is needed for YOUR GAME is YOU. We offer variants - you choose.

Of course, that doesn't prove that this is a real business.

I'm sure I've been here before, but I think it was off the Wiki entry a year ago. I thought the community would have known about this already, but I didn't mention anything. Confused
