3daysdead.com

I hate for this to be my first post, I'm not a pm or character and have only known about arg's (and this forum) for a few days, but this site didn't turn up in a search and is obviously either an ARG or a very cool video experiment:

3daysdead

I found a video on Revver about 2 weeks ago about a car accident and didn't really give it a second thought - just seemed like experimental video.

After finding out about unfiction last week (I'm embarassed never to have heard the term before!) and going bleary eyed reading through all of these forums (although I'm really enjoying reading the sammeeeees game!) I remembered the video and decided to track it down since I'm dying to play my first ARG and nothing seems easy to jump into at the moment.

This lead to 16 videos on revver, an obvious website (searching google for 3daysdead), and I found some vids on youtube, etc. Whois shows that the site is registered through a proxy, and I've only watched about 3 of the videos so far. The website, which is absolutely TERRIBLE design, has links to just about everything - vides, a blog, etc...

Sorry if this is already somewhere on the forums, I promise I searched! And since there isn't a "introduce yourself" or "welcome" forum, I figured I'd post the site here.

In any event, Hello everyone! Looking forward to participating in the forums and joining some of the games here. My brain is absolutely reeling and overwhelmed with all of the reading I've done in the past week - every day has been constant forum surfing, catching up on everything that's happened in the past 5 years since the beast and i love bees.

Hopefully this is an ARG, I'm very surprised not to have found it anywhere on the forums - I even looked through timewasters...

That totally floored me. Very Happy It's not like I bothered to catch up with ILB when I joined -- there are still entire threads in that forum that I've never looked at!

I have to admit - if it wasn't for Konamouse's "story so far" I would have given up, and even with that I was up until about 7am two days in a row reading and re-reading to catch up.

But my god what an entry into the ARG world! From that first phone call with the great voice, to reading about the email and forum interactions, the great video production, absolutely irresistable! Not to mention the number of people in this forum who SEEM like actual characters in the story! I haven't yet found anything (except for the archives) even close to it - I hope it lasts for a while.

*Phaedra looks suspiciously at the Sammeeeees players.

You're...right....

Konamouse especially seems rather...fictional. Wink

Welcome EarlyWyrm! Seems like you've already made a bunch of friends just from the quality of your first post Smile

(attempting to re-rail the thread)
3daysdead does look rather intriguing, with an obvious mystery... I think we should keep track of this one. So if you find anything or see anything new, definitely post it!

Good to have you around Wink

I actually started playing this about 2 months ago but didn't get very far. I swapped 5 or 6 emails with the chap trying to find the picture left at the crash site. There was next to nothing to go on though and it all got a bit impossible. I spent a LOT of time on it and it was just too tough.

The picture had just turned up last time I checked but I was still none the wiser as to what was going on. i'd love to see it cracked though.

It seemed potentially good and has been around for a long, long time with seemingly very few players, most of who, like me, seemed to have dropped out. But they guy was very ready to pick it up at any time, so if anyone wants to dive in, please do and share what you've got! I'll post up all my info here if there's interest in it.

Stayed up FAR too late on this last night
Wow this post turned out LONG - sorry about that!

I had just given up on decapitant and started looking into Enoch when I got sucked back in to Jack's blog. Very cool thing I hadn't yet experienced (since I've only read about other players experiences) - the initial "in game vs. out of game" question you ask yourself when following a trail, not to mention trying to figure out if it's an ARG or just a social experiment.

The videos and storyline is GREAT! With the exception of "Roy" and the doctor/therapist videos - Roy was just plain bad, and the docs seemed borderline; like college theater students, it was obvious they were scripted. Jack, on the other hand, REALLY makes you question yourself - he's very believable and the story has very few holes.

If you have any info PLEASE send it, I'm at a bit of a stopping point. I'd love to see some email snippets from Jack - I didn't email him myself as I didn't know how to "enter" - in character or as a player? How do you usually initiate contact?

I made it through all of the videos (there's actually 19 total) and all blog entries, and THEN sifted through the whole myspace trail (I HATE myspace!) - checking friends, and friends of friends blogs and comments... I followed the unfiction "newplayer guide" - checked source on all blog and website pages, did all of the whois queries I could think of, checked the pictures for stenography, and googled myself to death. Came up with absolutely nothing.

I left it by emailing "Anne" (a friend on Jack's myspace page), who I'm pretty sure is in game, after reading her blog entry at http://varisped.blogspot.com

"Let's see, what else can I write about? Hmmm, I have a hard time writing about myself. It's weird! Yes, I am the moderator of a 'fan group' it should be support group to Jack ( I don't know his last name) of the web page 3daysdead.com. At first I was very doubtful of his story, but we've been in contact with each other and he is a very genuine person. He's not looking for any sort of publicity. If you look at his vblog you'll understand why. I'm under the impressiont that Jack is a tortured soul, an artist. I can feel the sadness in his life when he emails me. So sad. I hope he'll be able to find the answers he's looking for"

At first I though she was just another group of unfiction-players who had caught onto the site, but figured it was ingame for a few reasons: it's her only blog entry, it was on Oct. 6th (which is the same time a few "new" blogs showed up from his friends), and her myspace trail leads in the same circles as Jacks. No response yet - Here's what I've come up with so far:

So far only three lead-ins (or rabbitholes, or whatever the appropriate term is) - Jacks email, Roy's email, and Anne's reference to a "fan site". I followed the third as it seemed the best way to progress the game.

It's definitely not a lead in to "the number 23" - the production is far too low budget to be advertising for a Jerry Bruckheimer movie. This is actually a bit of a relief, I was hoping it was indie...

I *think* the point of the game isn't "find out what happened to Jack", but to convince Jack that he's had a nervous breakdown and is delusional. He makes obvious references to paranoia, uses the Kafka concept of "being interrogated" during any social interaction, and makes almost textbook references toward suicidal tendencies and depressive behavior. I could be wrong though, I actually kind of hope that I am as an excercise in psychology would get very tedious and boring... I'd much rather find, at the very least, a split personality or a legitimate trail to some "occurence" on the date of the accident... And it'd be nice to have a simple little puzzle to solve, but I have a feeling the PM(s) think that's too cliche...

I'm not sure if ALL of the comments on Jack's myspace are ingame, and he does have a few obvious "out of game" comments on his blog (e.g.) "Nice hoax. Your real address and name is hidden by domainsbyproxy.com -- humm. Your occupation is "visual anthropologist". Defined as: 'encompasses the anthropological study of representation, including areas such as performance, museums, art, and the production and reception of mass media.' by Wiki. Wait the Internet is a mass media. Humm. Still I like the idea."

There's a bit more that I have in notepad, but I already kind of feel like I'm spamming Wink not sure if this is the protocol on the forums or not, I could easily go on for another page but this post alone would make most people bleary eyed.

Oh - one last thing - I googled ("visual anthropology" +jack) and came up with: http://www.amazon.com/phrase/visual-anthropology which is a book by "Jack Rollwagen" on ethnographic film making. Jack Rollwagen turns up enough results on google to kill someone, so I didn't bother.

What a post! Thanks for the info! Yes, I'm not sure of the purpose...Jack mentioned in the car with him was a knife and some medication but it definitely wasn't his. I suggested maybe he'd been abducted by aliens...but he didn't say much. heh.

I just mailed him and sad i'd seen his site and qanted to help in any way i could. Lemme find those mails now....it's been a good few months. *digdig* Yup, they're from August.

Hello Mona, Thank you for your kind email. I'm from London, born and raised inthe West End. I moved to the states around 6 years ago to start myown company. I'm curious if there's been any accidents similar to mine, in andaround where my accident took place or around the world. It's stillbaffling me. I've been searching the internet for the two photos thatwas found at the accident site. If you see anything please email me. What is your occupation? How did you find out about the web site? It's nice to hear from a fellow Brit! I really appreciate your kind words. It makes me feel good to knowthat there are people who want to help. Jack

Hi Mona, A woman who was walking her dog found me in the early morning hours onthe 26th of December. My car crashed into the bottom of the ravine. The photos were 8 1/2 X 11. I have my vblogs on Revver.com, it's toomuch of a hassle to be putting them on so many different web sites, Ijust don't have the energy for it. It takes forever to upload a vidon youtube, I can't deal with it. A bottle of ambien and a knife were both found on the passenger'sseat. They're not mine! They were definitely planted! Thank you for the link. I will definitely look into it. Cheers, Jack

(the link he refers to was a survey to take to see if you'd been abducted by aliens. heh.)

Quote:
Hello,

The metal that the doc found in my body wasn't from the car or from
the accident site. The police report concluded that the metal did not
come from the accident site. The metal was gallium.

I've read that the area Trabuco Canyon is or was a hot bed of occult
activity especially in the 1980s. Several people have emailed me from
the area that they have heard of such stories; Satanic rituals, animal
sacrifices, but nothing has been confirmed.

There is an absence of any in depth info of the area. I haven't been
back to the accident site. I am not ready for it. All I can remember
was that there was an area of tract housing then very quickly nothing.
I was lost in the canyon, it was pitch black.

Thank you for your research. I really, really appreciate it.

Quote:
There were no markings on the photos. The police seem to think that I
was a 'member' of some sort of cult which I vehemently deny. They
don't believe me. I have no criminal record of any kind. Not even a
parking ticket!

It's an ordinary house hold knife from what I can tell.

I was driving down the road after a long business meeting. I don't
drive down to Orange County very often. I wasn't familiar with the
Trabuco Canyon area. The meeting was in an industrial park which
isn't very far from the canyon. The meeting started in the early
afternoon, during the day the area is very suburban - sprawling,
houses, industrial parks. A very serene area, clean. When I left
the meeting it was dark, I was lost. The thing about Trabuco Canyon
is that you can be driving in a residential area, well lit, paved
roads then suddenly nothing. No lights, winding roads, very quiet and
very dark. As I continued down the road I was suddenly blinded by
several bright lights. The next thing I know is that I was laying in
the hospital bed.

I didn't fall asleep. I was listening to the radio, somewhat tired,
but I drank enough coffee and tea to keep me awake during the business
meeting.

The police reported no evidence of bright lights in the area, which
surprised and angered me. I'm beginning to think that the bright
lights were done on purpose but I have no idea. I no I wasn't drugged
at the business meeting. They're not the type of people to do
something like that. A family run business, very nice people. So I
know that they're not behind it.

Thank you for the research. I can't even begin to express how grateful I am.

Jack

Hope this makes sense since I didn't put my mails to him in...if you have any questions about what he's referring to, feel free to ask. Smile I think there were more but I can't find them right now.

Thanks for the info plugs, that definitely gives me the courage to initiate contact as he seems quite receptive. I think I'll go the "occult" route with him, since the alien abduction doesn't quite seem to get a response. He's already mentioned he's familiar with burroughs, and he's 39 from the UK, so I'm sure he's heard of Aleister Crowley and all of the underground movements (psychic tv, temple of psychic youth, coum transmissions, etc) - I'd LOVE for the game to involve those references, I grew up as a fan of all of that and still follow a lot of it today. Since he used "23" (which comes from crowley's book of lies) I think he may want to direct people toward that line of inquiry?

Of course, I'm hoping "Anne" responds at myspace - if there's an ingame "fan group" I'd love to get some more info first.

Out of curiosity, what was the date of your interaction with him? I want to cross ref the emails with his video and text blogs to see how it affected his writing.

Ok, wasn't all August, I was reading the date the American way, sorry. They're from the end of september, running through to the 9th of october. Not long.

And definitely mail him. He's very forthcoming with information. But he's paranoid, remember, so be sure to explain how you just want to help and it should be fine. good luck! post up your info!

I'd like to follow this a bit again but, really, it was too tough to figure out what he wanted and what was going on.
