Well I was planning on going tomorrow late morning/early afternoon but I could possibly go this evening, I just thought it'd be better to go to tomorrow in the daylight since I won't get out of work and home to change until around 5.

Here's the solve for Frame #4:

You'll want to take the two times ten
Look to the left every now and then
If you're careful you may see

Turn again on the number found
to be ounces in a Troy pound.

Walk along the high dune of sand
Beside the water, On the land
Before you choose to hike or scale
know the faster route is the trail.

Which to choose the left or straight
submit to the challenge and take the bait?
Step up and down and test your might
your grand reward will be the sight.

Rest your feet when you may
Then hike along the wooden way
Go up the stairs, not once but twice
Sit down to rest, take my advice!

Lift your eyes and do not frown
Do not forget look up and down
If you chose to turn around
And drop yourself upon the ground

The sifting sand has left the place
Beneath the bench there is a space
Next to the roots of an aging friend
Is the spot you'll have to bend.

I initially overcomplicated this, noting that the difference between each character we take is following the sequence of the number of composites between primes (1 1 3 1 3 1 3 5 etc) but then I realized this just means that the chars we do take are in prime number locations  :oops:

So each character is a prime position in an array of the total characters we have in that frame (char[2],char[3],char[5],char[7]...etc.)

I tapped my resources and got a programmer friend of mine to whip up a script that would take all of the ASCII values and delete any that were not letters. The result is probably much easier to navigate for people who are not mathematics-oriented (like myself for example).

This is starting to fall into place. Basically the pattern is the locations of the pixels we use from the frame. I'd just like to revisit this:

Frame 1: Odd Numbers - 1 3 5 7 9 11 13 ...
Frame 4: Prime Numbers - 2 3 5 7 11 13 17 19 23 29 ...
Frame 6: Connell Sequence (1 odd, 2 even, 3 odd...) - 1 2 4 5 7 9 10 12 ...
Frame 7: Even Numbers - 0 2 4 6 8 ...

I'm pretty sure the puzzle about the sand dune is talking about Indiana State Sand Dunes near Gary, Indiana. Wink

Frame 5 (a.k.a the evil frame)...

Method.. (a.k.a the solution from hell)

I notice the first few letters were "l o r e" so looking up the sequence for those positions (1 4 11 16) led me to many hits, one of which was [url=A005224]Aronson's Sequence[/url] where you write the sentence "T is the first.. letter in this sequence" and then count the next t and keep writing.. "T is the first, fourth, eleventh," and so on and so forth, giving you the sequence 1 4 11 16 24...

I checked out the first few values and got some lorem ipusm... great.. the entire sequence on the database gave 8 words only, so I assumed there's a lot more, given the length of the other framse...

So off to a merry hunt looking for the rest of the sequence.. nothing on the Internet, except a perl script which might generate the rest.. but it was broken! The entire channel was helping and looking for this stuff.. finally I found an offending "AND" in the perl code, got it out, and the thing worked.. (after two hours..)

Lo and behold, there is nothing after the sequence in the database... just those 8 letters. The PMs used the ready made sequence and the frame seems totally useless.


I am still hoping that I either made a mistake, and there is more stuff in there if I hadn't gotten a step wrong, or that this method is important to solve another frame such as 2 or 3... If not, then I really, really don't like the PMs at the moment....


To recap:

Wow, good work guys!

If anyone else lives in the Melbourne area (not aware of anyone, but hey..) and wants to go searching with me, i'll probably be heading in tomorrow. Just send me a PM letting me know if you want to come, or just reply to this post. I guess i'll meet anyone who wants in at Flinders St Station.

Does anyone else have the remainder of the melbourne clue?

Is that it, or is that just a direction to finding the start of the trail? The other's seemed to be a lot longer. I'l try working on it to see if there is more to it, but i'm pretty terrible at this stuff, so if someone can do me a huge favour and work out the rest of the clue, i will be eternally gratefull...

After getting those 8 lines, all I got was gibberish. But I agree that it does seem a bit short and not specific enough... Confused

Yeah, i also get gibberish after those eight lines (tallerbird mentioned this same problem a few pages ago). Maybe the ascii has more errors in it?? Heck, i dunno.

tallerbird also said he thinks these upturned cups were the federation bells. I think this sounds dead on, good work tallerbird. I was just unsure whether this was the place to search, or this was the start of the trail, because so far the other frames seem to be trails leading to the destination, rather than just a destination....

Oh well, I guess i'll find out tomorrow....
