[ARG?] Push, NC

Hello everyone,

A long time ago, there was a place known as Push, NC. The town website (www.pushnc.com) was full of the sites and sounds of the city, in addition to all the people. The storyline involved the head of a corporation having died, and left his money to whoever could find it. After a team of us went through and searched the town top to bottom, one of us finally found the money and won the cash prize. And that was the end.

Today, I received the following email:
Quote:
::.:..::Greetings, ALL ::.....:

After the search for Jules P Zephyr's money in Push, there was a huge influx of
players in and out of the city. But for the most part, it reverted back to how
it was before the search. Most of the town stayed isolated.

There has been a big influx of people who have created a religion around Madam
Xelda's philosphies. Rumors of sacrificial rites and other ceremonies plague
that group. They are a secretive
bunch, and tend to keep to themselves, though you will see quite a few standing
on corners and in strange places, chanting, or talking to themselves. It is not
known how they decide whether to allow people in the group, though they do have
different days of the year, where they screen prospective members.

jpz Inc. has returned with a new CEO, chosen by the board members, who were then
removed only weeks after the decision. Apparantly, Mr. Ryle Komito, has been
purchasing stock (jpz) for many years, and once placed in his position had a
majority share. Though many people still work locally for JPZ, it appears the
hiring process has become more rigorous since the change.

Jared Christie, the former reporter for channel 47, was promoted to head news
manager, but was later demoted after the lack of news appeared that he wasn't
able to perform the new tasks given him, completely. Other rumors abound about
how it was more a issue with his new love interest Leslie Boinet and how it was
dissolved after Jared was caught in the copy editors room with Catheryne Watley,
who was promptly fired as well. She now works at the Jail & ale, which just
opened its doors again a few weeks ago.

And lucky for us, since we had a break-in, that was reported, and later the
Sherriff apprehended a Douglas Wilson. Wilson testified that he was passing
through Push on his way to New York to become a Stage Hand for a new play that
was being created by a friend of his, Al Flinkton. After repeated attempts to
get in touch with Al, and later finding out that there was no play by the name
Douglas mentioned, he was put in jail until his trial, which will be coming up
in a few weeks. Needless to say, Douglas was a bit miffed at his friend Al.
Atleast Douglas was a bit happier when an anonymous source paid his 100,000 bond
and got him released from jail. I believe he is staying at the Yates Motel &
Drive In.

You will find most of the other locations are still here in push, from
Pins&Needles, to the Sushi Gondola. Some have new owners, but you will still
recognize alot of the old faces. Though they have kept mostly to themselves
since Jules' money stirred up so much traffic through the area.

The Racetrack is still closed. Some legal problems they were having have kept
them shut down for now. Briggs had borrowed large sums of money from JPZ inc in
the past, which to date, have not been paid.

Stratton McNuthers and his Wife were found dead in their house yesterday. It
was a grusome scene.

And that is why I am sending out this email, to all the people that had
previously joined the push community to find Jules' money. I am looking for
people to help me track down this villain. I have built a house here in Push
from the money I made off the JPZinc merger, with tools to help find the
murderer. The house can only hold so many people, and I will be choosing
certain people to join me in Push to help solve this murder.

Be warned, I have a feeling this cretin will strike again, and propbably even be
after the investigators themselves.

I'm not sure if this qualifies as an ARG or not, but the point is, a new story is brewing in Push, and I am hoping there will be another prize this time around.

Silly me - all this time talking about Push, NV when clearly North Carolina is the happening state.

hahahaha Rowan.

Now for the realz, yo...

This is so ARG it hurts. I didn't play the original Push, but this looks to be an intriguing G-roots project. Keep us all up to date!

These might be coincidences, but is "Royal Governor Arthur Dobbs" a nod to Mayor Dobbs from Chasing the wish and "Sylus" a nod to the Silas character in Push, NV?

I actually think the 5 million google ads hurt more. Yes, I understand it's grassroots, and yeah, I understand people want to re-coop money... but seriously next time just hit me on the head with a hammer and rob me. As a child of the internet, I am fully capable of glossing over ads (and 95% of the time I do), but there is just something about the color scheme that makes the ads pop way too much for my little brain to ignore them and even the amusing factor of the parody isn't enough for me not to get annoyed (especially when searching through all of the fire rubble. Putting it in the middle of the screen is not going to get me to click on it!)

It appears to be a game board and the host is limiting the enrollment
and there are other requirements for the players...

Quote:
Players would be required to have a digital camera or the ability to take digital pictures. The game would involve the same things as the TV show, craft projects, decorating projects, cooking, etc.

Instead of a fee to enter, you would be required to purchase occasional game supplies. The winner would get a $25.00 Hobby Lobby (or whatever other craft type store) gift certificate as well as a unique item for their avatar.

Post if your interested. 12 is the ideal number of players (that's what the TV show had) but we could go with any even number 8 or better.

Rowan I don't know where the google ads are showing for you, but they are down at the bottom of the page for me... ^shrug^

On most of the pages, yes, but not on this page or any of the other ones linking from the fire.

That is another thread entirely, seems the link listed in the e-mail is a thread that no longer exists

I thought we established in chat that this site has been up for a few years, and in the current state for more than a year. Push, NC stands for Push Nevada Coalition.. which as far as I can tell is just a group of Push fans who created some online resources and a few parody pages...

The only thing to indicate activity is the e-mail daveman received from Enoch.. so maybe.. but I don't see a game yet..

Apparently a new sequel is starting, cause I found this on one of the other forums of cmgaming complex http://www.cmgamingcomplex.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2355, where MadamXelda announces:
Quote:
This iteration of Brain Drain will end on, Monday, February 13th when Murder in Small Town Push begins, just so you all know.

The bigger question, seems to be then, if this is really worth mention in the forums (and hear me out, I'm not trying to be catty)...

If there's only a possibility of a maximum of 12 players, then the rest of us would just be followers (which lurking has never been a bad thing, but...).

So I guess my more meta question is, if a tree falls in a forum and only 12 people can hear it, does it make a sound worth posting about?

Beyond that bit of philosophicality Smile, anyone get the puzzle next to the boas&bells shop?

Guys, the "new" game hasn't really started yet. The puzzles are all from the old discovery of the town. It's not meant to be a full-ARG, hence the ads. It's just a fun game that should be cool if it starts up again. The CMGC forums are full of the loyal players of all the CM games. I used to be a major "audience member" of their online reality games (like Cyber-Mole, aka CM), and I kinda left once I discovered ARGs. Don't expect a typical ARG, because I'm not sure they've even heard of ARGs before...

EDIT: OK, OK, false alarm. I talked to some people at CMGC, and it's just the beginning of an online game, having nothing to do with ARG's. Whoever put the news bulletin up on ARGN.com might want to take it down, because the entire forums are inactive, and have been ever since the game ended a few years back. The new game (Murder in Small Town Push) isn't going to use that site at all, just some bulletin boards. Sorry for the false announcement.
