So you are interested in the money then? After all, there's plenty of charities, and communities that could benefit hugely from the cash if you're not bothered about it.

And the point would be for me to know that I've done something on my own, which probably took hours of work, which some toerag who can't be bothered to work it out himself isn't going to profit from. (At least until someone else solves it, and shares it on here.)

Horses for courses. I just didn't like the way people were jumping on the other guy for what i took to be some reasonable comments. (The ones about bias i'm not commenting on, as i've not had enough exposure to comment on)

I think I'll ask him anyway:

Me: So, Adrian, where's the cube?

Him: [censored to protect my cash]

Me: Cool, I'll be back with it in a few minutes.

Uh. Isn't it public knowledge that that's the only reason I'm here?

What I don't get is why people come here to announce there's no way they'll ever share information with us if they sort the puzzles out first.

... Okay. Thank you for letting us know that. Rolling Eyes

I'm not sure what the purpose is in telling us you're working on your own.

Good luck, and enjoy. Idea Is that the appropriate response?

Or are you asking us to stop sharing answers here because you think you'd like to beat us in the race to the finish, and our public board is getting in the way of your efforts?

Question

I'm not sure where you got the idea that I wasn't 'interested' in the money-I just said I'd keep 88% of it for myself. However it's unlikely that I'll win, logistically difficult to reward everyone on the forum and laughable that I would donate it to a charity. Do I sound like a vegetarian?

TP wasn't 'attacked' for his opinions on the cards, most find the idea of running to the boards and cutting and pasting the right answers slightly tiresome however find the forums as a place to discuss the cards useful. One of the best things about this game (even though it isn't really a game) is that it doesn't patronise you and does set us difficult tasks. There is more to this game than pieces of cardboard.

People were irked at his attitude to unfiction and ARG collaboration in general-as you appear to be. If you could explain how you individually followed the Receda trail or wrote a book to be published on PPC I would be interested to hear it. How do you think the game could be played without people interacting with each other? A major part of ARGs is that it draws you away from behind the PS2 controller and encourages you to deal with other people. Read Mokey Fraggle's, Juxta's and GuyP's response to TP which says (generally) what most people here think and certainly says it more eloquently and eruditely than I'm to able are.

However at least TP says what he thinks in a reasonably enjoyable and forthright manner without hiding behind infuriatingly snotty rhetorical questions to voice his unenlightened opinions. (Sorry TP, you seem like a nice enough chap but you do speak some utter rubbish)

European Chris, I'm sorry that my

infuriatingly snotty rhetorical questions
are upsetting you. However, once you've answered it...

As I said, Horses for courses. I'm for the minute concerned with the cards only, since as i said, i'm coming into this late. As far as i'm concerned, putting the answers up here demeans the game, and yourself.

As for the trail, and publishing a book. I've not. Either. Go figure. I actually wasn't playing when the trail was cracked. Unfortunately, it can't really be done twice can it? I've also got a rather full day, week in, week out, and i can't devote the time and energy i'd like to reading the myriad of webpages containing information and keeping up to date. Perhaps you'd care to enlighten me where exactly we are with all the various threads?

I'm not trying to do down unFiction. This is my first exposure to it, and compared to some forums i use, its both well populated, and appears to be well run and moderated. It serves its purpose. My problem is not with the collaborative side of Arg'S either. As i said, this is my first so i can't comment on others, however i do play a couple of rpgs, which are similar in some respects to an ARG in respect that an individual must contribute to the group, although the story is more player lead, than scripted as per PC. My problem is simply with the sharing of answers. Say ten people get together to crack a card. I've no issues with those ten people sharing the answer, since they've all contributed to it but i think its pretty unfair for those who've chosen not to participate, and not to solve it themselves outside of the group to get the answer with no work.

I know ultimately, it comes down to the person taking the answer, but people being people, i'd rather the answer wasn't there for all and sundry.

Other than don't do it, i can't think of an alternative.

Going back to the money, personally i think it's highly improbable that i will win either. I was simply curious as to how the 'community' will deal with teh prize going to an individual? Is it normal for there to be a prize tied into an ARG?

I'm also curious to see what other people think. After all, there's 12k players at the moment. Only one person has replied directly.

You do sound like a veggie! Cool

Anyway, we can meet up in London, and chat about it over a beer. I'm never one to hide behind annonimity.

Oh not another person I'm going to have to have a drink with Wink

Think of Unfiction as those ten people who are in a bar speaking loudly and allowing other people look over their shoulder-we're the nice clever kids in class. Guy's ejaculated a think here though.

See you on the 25th...you're buying (me a steak sandwich). Laughing
