Irrelevant fact of the day:

Tween is a detergent used in molecular biology. Other stupid names for detergents include Triton, Nonidet, Pluronic, bigCHAP, CHAPS and CHAPSO.

If I ever have heptuplets, I know what I'll be calling them.

Was mooching about and spotted this one, it's new right? Requires wizardry and know-how and possibly a smidge of clever-dick.

New over the past few days:-

Recruitment wrote:
Head of Marketing (June 19, 2006)

Mind Candy, producer of Perplex City, is looking for a creative marketing professional seeking an opportunity to shine as Head of Marketing in a high pressure startup environment.

The role will be wide reaching and primarily involve:

* Raising awareness of Perplex City though cost-effective campaigns, both on and offline
* Driving new registrations at the Perplexcity.com website
* Acting as guardian to the Perplex City brand
* Helping research, develop and create new Perplex City products
* Managing and appointing any relevant marketing agency relationships
* Developing relationships with third-party brands who want to partner with Perplex City

To apply, please email a CV/resume and cover letter answering the following questions to recruitmentSPLATmindcandydesign.com with the subject "Head of Marketing".

* Are there any online marketing campaigns in the last few years that you've been particularly impressed with?
* Have you ever come across any marketing campaigns based on Alternate Reality Games before? (I Love Bees (HALO 2), Art of the Heist (Audi A3), The Lost Experience (Lost TV show), etc)? What are your thoughts on this form of marketing?
* What are some of your favourite websites?
* Do you have any interest in puzzles and/or video games? If so, what are some of your favourites?
* Su Doku was practically unheard of in the UK when it was introduced to the UK by the Times newspaper in November 2004. It spread rapidly and has gone on to become a global phenomenon. Why do you think it became so popular in such a relatively short space of time?
* Do you have any favourite books on marketing?
* What magazines do you read regularly?
* Is there a question we haven't asked that you'd like to be asked? What is your answer to that question?

Salary is negotiable and dependent on experience (guide - £40k+)

GUY PARSONS
CUSTOMER SERVICE AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT

Once a hardened Perplex City veteran (albeit not a very good one), Guy finally nagged his way into joining the Mind Candy team so he could fraternise with the enemy.

You know how during football matches, there's a guy who stands at the side ready to run on with a bottle of water and a magic sponge? Guy is the equivalent for Cube Hunters. Interests include playing guitar, losing at impromptu armwrestling, Blokus and other competitive pursuits, and moving house with distressing frequency.

There is presently no photo to accompany Guy's entry - perhaps Mind Candy are going to propose a competition to find the best one? I hereby lay claim to the use of this shot of the floppy-haired one, in a quiet moment of reflection after the PCAG.

The latest addition to the Mind Candy menagerie - presenting...Divinia!

Quote:
DIVINIA KNOWLES
STUDIO MANAGER

Divinia is Mind Candy's meticulously organised, Sage-accounts-wielding, FedEx-battling, credit-card-supplies-account-brandishing studio manager whipping everyone at Mind Candy into shape (the whip's a hangover from her Archaeology degree from the University of Wales at Lampeter where she had a love of digging, dinosaurs and (we assume) Indiana Jones).

If you call us up, chances are it's Divinia's dulcet tones that you'll hear on the other end of the phone. While she's a fully qualified book keeper, don't let that fool you: underneath that love of numbers and all things ledger-like, you're likely to meet up with her sooner or later if you too spend your (well scheduled) time gig-going, surfing, snowboarding, DIY-ing, cycling, running, wedding-cake-baking or puzzling.

After some rummaging, I think I finally found the right place to park this. MC are recruiting again (note, I don't know when these were put up on their site):
Mind Candy wrote:
Head of Sales and Marketing

Imagine CSI, crossed with LOST, 24 and Heroes. But, imagine those shows as bitesize online video, whenever you want them, wherever you want them. Imagine them as a global detective mystery where hundreds of thousands of viewers all play a part in cracking a case. Where you can play a part. Imagine them where they spill out into the real world, where looking for evidence can literally mean scouring a real world crime scene. Where interviewing a suspect can mean talking to one over the phone. This is a next-generation Alternate Reality Game. This is Perplex City Season 2.

About Mind Candy and Perplex City:

Mind Candy produces Perplex City, a leading Alternate Reality Game, that offers brands a highly innovative and immersive connection with consumers. Perplex City offers brands a new way to engage in cutting-edge experiential marketing with an existing and growing dedicated audience.

We're looking for a Head of Sales and Marketing, who'll be responsible for presenting to advertising agencies and brands to sell sponsorship packages for our forthcoming season of Perplex City.

As a member of Mind Candy's management team, you will be working on long-term strategic planning and communicate closely with our story and design teams to ensure an attractive platform to brands while not compromising the delivery of a content-led entertainment experience. You will also work on day-to-day development and management of qualified leads, taking them through from first contact to sealing sponsorship and advertising deals.

We will know when we meet you that you're excited about the potential that Perplex City, as an Alternate Reality Game, offers as a new form of entertainment and as a new advertising and marketing platform. Knowledge of Lonelygirl15, Katemodern, 42 Entertainment, ilovebees and Year Zero is a must.

You will:

* * have managed and developed long-term ongoing high-level relationships with leading international consumer brands across a wide range of marketing platforms
* * have at least 3 years experience of working in new media, social networking or media advertising areas
* * be comfortable with a startup work ethic in a rapidly changing, responsive environment and relish the opportunity to work with young, highly creative colleagues across the company
* * have very strong communication and presentation skills and be experienced in online and offline advertising and business development
* * have a track record of meeting and exceeding targets
* * be well connected within the advertising (both agencies and brands) and online industry and have access to key contacts at premium world-class brands

This post offers a competitive base salary, share options and performance based bonuses, and a relaxed non-corporate work environment (free drinks, snacks, organic fruit, casual dress, full-spectrum lighting, games area with the latest consoles and loaners, a generous company library, and all the jelly beans you can eat).

Mind Candy is an innovative, top-tier venture capital-backed startup based in London, UK and produces the world's leading commercial alternate reality game, Perplex City.

Please send resume, cover letter and compensation requirements to recruitmentSPLATmindcandydesign.com.
