[EMAIL] Seth replying to my questions about Steven's trail

Seth's email:

Quote:
Good to meet you, and others I hadn't spoken to directly before, in chat. With the help of your team I am hopeful that this puzzle will be solved soon, and I (as well as Cordelia and Stevie) am immensely grateful for all the help I've received. I have made progress on the frames and will post what I have found.

I'll answer your questions as best I can, but I don't have all the answers - at least not yet.

The puzzle trail - I stand by the fact that it's both genuine, and designed by Steven. As for the why - now that I think about it in those terms, I'm not entirely sure. Steven has always enjoyed puzzles, and I share some of that interest, but I am nowhere near his standard. I can only guess that perhaps he didn't originally intend to use the trail in this way, and he was forced down that route by circumstance. Pure speculation of course, but it's a possibility. Hopefully he will be able to enlighten me once he is found - I still hold out that hope, even if the odds are against it.

Now, the question of my identity. I must admit that if the situation was not so serious, I might be chuckling over this. However, this is a deadly serious situation and I can understand your concern. Firstly, Steven would never be able to watch his own family go through this kind of trauma. You are seeing the brave faces of a very strong little girl and her mother, Steven simply would not be able to stand by through the difficult moments we have had. He's a far better man than to knowingly put his family through this. As for me not being the "real" Seth - well, I have been a friend not just of Steven, but of the family too, for many years. Cordelia knows me well, Stevie up until now less so, but I'm sure they would spot an imposter pretty quickly.

In the end this all comes down to trust - I had to make the decision to trust you and your team, and you have proven yourselves trustworthy by your actions - by helping me, by supporting Stevie, and not least by respecting the confidentiality of what you have been working with. By the same token, I have to ask you to trust me. I am doing everything I can to find out what has happened to Steven, as well as trying to find the evidence he has against Bronco. I guess I may not have contributed as much to solving the puzzles as I could have, but the fact that your team has been working so hard on them meant I have been able to focus on the things that I am better at - interviewing people, trying to find information and evidence here on the station. Unfortunately this isn't helped when people contact me to say they have information, then go mysteriously quiet when I try to meet with them.

I'm not sure what more I can add really - my user/pass is something I never expected to share, and I don't really see anything odd about it. People choose login passcodes for all sorts of reasons, and they just happen to be my choice.

I can understand your concerns, and hopefully I've eased your mind a little, but please - let's focus on finding Steven and his evidence, and hopefully some of our other questions will be answered along the way.

Oh - your final question - "Care to share a bit more of what the heck is really going on?". I wish I had any more to share. All I can say is I have a feeling there is something else behind this, we're not getting the whole story. There's something not quite right on the station, and I don't mean the smell.

Please share this information with the rest of the team if similar questions are raised - I could do without going through this exercise over and over.

Kind Regards,

Seth

PS - I just realised I missed a point. Sorry, I'm a bit tired right now. Anyway, you asked "Another idea I had is that by sharing information with us, you are in effect doing what Steven wanted, which is to spread the word about Bronco.". In that you are correct. We don't know what happened to Steven at this point, and I could easily disappear up here with no-one the wiser. I have a few friends who know I am here, but I doubt many of them have the curiosity or skills to look for me if I should not return. This way, at least people might follow this up should things go wrong.

My original email to him:

Quote:
Dear Seth,

It was nice to speak with you in chat last night and I am very glad that my very good friend xnbomb was able to help us make some progress.

The question that Rowan raised about why Steven would design a trail that you couldn't solve without outside help has been bothering me. I know I asked about this before and you were convinced that Steven made this trail and it was genuine.

So I have some other questions.. One idea i had is that you are Steven in disguise. Another is that you aren't the "real" Seth that Steven designed the trail to follow. I have to admit that you don't seem that much like a professional investigator to me. Don't take that personally - I just wonder why a private investigator would openly share information. Also, unless you have a really whimsical sense of humor the username and password on your blog seems cute but unlikely for a serisou investigator. Another idea I had is that by sharing information with us, you are in effect doing what Steven wanted, which is to spread the word about Bronco.

I don't know, I was up late last night so I have lots of theories and no basis for proof or belief. It is very difficult to get confirmation of anything. I don't know what you would be willing to tell us, but the story you are selling us is getting harder and harder to accept at face value. Care to share a bit more of what the heck is really going on?

Take care!

Rose

He trusts us so much, he tried to get his goons to beat us to the cache.
I feel trusted, don't you?
