I agree that we don't want a repeat of what happened with Orbital Colony.

That said, I don't see how inviting tipsila to UF or to IRC breaks TINAG at all. Rather, it's a TINAG-preserving alternative to asking, "Hey, are you a PUPPET!?" S/he can always say no, and I think everyone around WIBS would have the good manners to let it go. Plus, I think SirQuady is being discreet by doing it via PM rather than on the boards.

If s/he refuses, so be it. But in my mind, the PMs opened the door to this sort of speculation by having a puppet posing as a player, even if her role was easily discovered via her website.

So long as it doesn't interfere with playing the game or get obnoxious, I don't see how it's a problem.

I'm not sure how to handle the situation (this is still my first ARG). I still haven't made up my mind about tipsila. For now, I'm going to assume that s/he is a real player (don't know why really, just for fun I guess Very Happy ). I don't see any harm in SirQuady PM-ing an invitation.

However, I don't know how this is handled, but jocubed seems bent on "finding the mole". He sent me a PM, "warning" me that I may be giving out too much information and that Tucker should tell me to hold off a little bit (along with accusing me of being a puppet and on GMD's payroll). Now I see he thinks that Rowan is a puppet as well (as seen in this post). I am wondering if there is something we can say to him so he doesn't alienate everyone on the forum? Any thoughts, or should I just let it be?

The only puppet in my house is the care bear puppet that I play with.

Well, I don't think the situation actually requires much in the way of "handling." A little harmless speculation doesn't hurt, and neither does a one-time, polite and non-pushy invitation to visit an OOG forum or chat room. But I don't see a pressing need to really do anything. Even if we don't follow that line of inquiry, all will become clear in the fullness of time, I'm sure.

Well, I corrected him on Rowan, and Tucker appeared to drive home the point (although I can understand jocubed's confusion regarding whether a moderator of an IG forum is IG).

If I were you, I'd send him a PM saying something like the following:

Quote:
Hi jocubed!

I'm not a puppet, an employee of GMD, or anything other than a player like yourself, and I think we're all best served by players bringing up as much relevant information as they can find.

I'm not sure that it's really important at this point to figure out who, besides Debunkette, is a player-puppet. For that matter, she may be the only one. But in any case, if there are other player-puppets, I'm sure that the professionals behind this game know how much information is appropriate to give out.

You may also want to consider that even if you do locate a player-puppet, they're likely to either ignore or deny accusations that they are puppets. After all, the characters, like Tucker, seem to believe that they are real, and that belief in their own reality is one of the things that allows this game to exist in the first place.

At least, that's what I'd probably say. Smile But others may have better suggestions.

I also sent him a PM letting him know that I didn't think Rowan, Sidtheduck, or Tipsilia were BTS.

Better to focus our energies on the game, rather than the curtain!

Hey, I may be a little late, but I think I'm going to jump on this bandwagon and play along. Woo! Better late than never, I always say.

Time to get some reading done...

Hi Tipsila! You seem to have some really insightful ideas about the wide variety of puzzles Benjamin has left us! Just in case you are interested, there is a large website called Unfiction that is devoted to games that are similar to this whole "Who is Benjamin Stove" thing. Ok, and thanks again for your enthusiasm in tackling these puzzles!

That is just the right tone Sir Quady!

I especially like

Because it is fun to watch new people have fun discovering things! On either side of the curtain!

Allright, the PM came back from Tipsila. Make of it what you will:
Quote:
Hello SirQuady,

Thanks for your vote of confidence; chances are my theory is incorrect Crying or Very sad. Besides, I haven't yet been able to connect it to Benjamin.

I can't say that I have the time, or the presence of mind to tackle other puzzles right now, but I thank you for your kind offer.

To which i replied:

Well, you're very welcome. And if you ever need help with anything, or a sounding board to bounce an idea off of, just let me know! I'll be happy to help you out.

-SirQuady

p.s. If i may ask, as you're name leaves it ambiguous (pardon my poor spelling Laughing): Are you a guy or a girl?

To which Tipsial replied:

Quote:
Seems we all need a sounding board after this last group of letters! It's very nice to know there is a helping hand if I need one. Thanks. Oh, and I am a female.

~tipsila

Allrighty!

Y'all don't still think Tipsila is in-game!

With all the reams of information from the posts, plus jumping on the Detroit Public Library issue and calling the librarian to look in the book (which I still maintain was ill-advised), there is just no way she is BTS.

The in-game characters, at least in this game, have been there to pose questions to us, not theories or answers.

Of the IG characters that we know of, does anyone suspect that Ramon (among others) is IG?

Perhaps there is a purpose for these suspect characters on the WIBS forums, and that is to become one with the tinfoil, and your mantra should be "trust no one". Kinda fits with the theme.

I don't want to start a character hunt, so i'm gonna leave my personal opinion to myself.

I do, though, find one character humorous. Tucker's Mom! (aka Tucker's personal rollercoaster 90 downhill death drop)

Tis I

Ok, ok, I've been lurking for about month on these boards. Figured I'd register.

I have nothing of value to add at this point, but I thought I'd make my presence known.

Oh, and I promise not to clutter up these forums with my off-topic ramblings Very Happy
