I went ahead and registered. I figure that I'll let anyone know if there's anything odd in the CD's insert. Never know, It might have something to do with the original site.
It all starts with a innocent registration. Next thing you know, it's 2 years later and you're up at 2am refreshing boards because you can't sleep.

Welcome to the dark side.

Unfortunately, qr5 is not registered by GMD (like debunkette and wibs is), and is likely a red herring. Something tells me this is a real band, who knows.

The WHOIS states that the domain was registered in 2000 but recently transferred (12/5/2005). This is a little closer to the GMD registration date of wibs & debunkette (12/20/2005).
It's noteworthy that Google did not find any sites linking to www.qr5.org. However, there are a number of links to www.qr5.com which is a mirror of qr5.org. The band seems authentic to me, e.g. you can find early records of their recordings. This leaves us with a real band that might have joined GMD in their efforts, or merely gave permission to have their album cover photo used.

If you are looking for non-stop action, this isnt the ARG for you. Update days will be every Thursday... dont expect much action any other day.

you know, I have to quibble with this remark. The last GMD game was action packed, after the first few days, and this is only a week old.

What was said is that Tucker would update on Thursdays, as it is his day off, not that the game will only update on Thursdays.

I note that debunkette, an in game character, seems to have posted today..

Personally, I think this is like "pre-game" in the sense of gathering in players, getting them pulled into the story.

I would also bet that we are missing something lost in the turgidity of the posts on that forum. Or on the sites...

Not so sure, clues have been vague. Maybe this is a sorting period where the people that post about hoaxes can be weeded out.

regarding my belief that the band might NOT be OOG. Certainly we can't expect EVERY website related to the game to be registered to the company...wouldn't that be too easy?

I know in the game the Art of the Heist there was a character known as Will Star, who is actually a real person, making a guest appearance playing himself. He had his own website which wasn't registered to GMD.
I don't think any clues were found on his site.

The three main game sites: Virgil's, Last Resort Retrievals and the ingame forums, were registered to GMD Studios.

As for saying that - the stuff on http://www.qr5.org/about/index.html
is intriguing, I like all the papers about the family and the images. It is a nice site for sure.

Well, I hope its just pre-game stillness, cuase some of the natives are growing restless. The factsheet that has been compiled so far is strictly limited to those facts that the owner of the site has provided. Nothing OOG (or out of this particular website. with debunkette as an exception) has been found to be anything really useful.

Still, it holds a lot of promise.

hmm, exactly, it's completely sceptisism, and some people are treating this skeptisism as though it's real clues...

Well, a big difference between this ARG and Michael Adams (which has since imploded) is that it has a slower moving, story driven style of play. Michael Adams was just a series of codes tied loosely together by vaque plot.

Each game has it's own pace. SOme games only do updates once a week, others twice a week, some once a day, and some randomly. It depends a lot on the PM how they have set up revealing clues and how much time they have to put into doing the work.

Give the game a couple of weeks to get into the swing of things before people start speculating on how fast it may be moving.

There is nothing we didn't already know there, is there? I get the feeling we are still in the 'accruing players' stage because it seems most of the linked words are just about catching people up on what minor progress has been made throughout the week. Or am I missing something?

I have a question regarding the discoverer of the Martinez website, 2DMat. In game character or not? It seems that search by many other forumers yeilded nothing and yet a newcomer just "happens" to find a page which is accepted by Tucker.

2DMat

If he was to be in-game then he would currently be a dead-end apart from perhaps being a method by which the PM's could hurry along certain discoveries players could have made themselves. No links in sig, no webpage or info in his profile. My guess is that he's a genuine player.
