I have a question regarding the discoverer of the Martinez website, 2DMat. In game character or not? It seems that search by many other forumers yeilded nothing and yet a newcomer just "happens" to find a page which is accepted by Tucker.
The explanation for this is that he used a meta-search engine which included MSN and filtered other stuff. The page in question is not available via yahoo or google searches, and seriously, who uses MSN? Twisted Evil

Nothing new in today's announcement which is not so bad, because it means we will get updates during the week and it's not limited to Thursdays.

BTW I am still hoping to find some helping hands for the Stove wiki: http://stove.schtuff.com/

hi all, a newbie here.

debunkette has this post on her site
http://www.debunkette.com/2005/12/debunkette_cracks_the_web.html
the post reveals her name, city and birthday.
when you google her name and city,
you get one phonebook result on her name.

is this something maybe?

Atlanta is large enough to have more than one Sarah Randall. If you go to Whitepages.com you'll find another entry. This is why I've been ignoring that phone number. It would be rude to call up random people and bother them with ARG requests. So far debunkette has not provided any hints about her address other than the city.

So you think that the PM planted a website that forumers may just happen to find?

Yes, you can find the website once you search for the name from that recipe. However, the website has only been archived by MSNs search engine so far (last update: 01/09/06 according to MSN) and thus does not show up anywhere else. If they had listed it with google then people would have found the page a minute after the recipe was made available. Everybody was searching for that name...

2DMat and Eightlegs are IMO under suspicion of being IG to give us a nudge. Eightlegs' post about the newspaper articles (including tantalizing clippings) were very PM like. 2DMat's "discovery" was also interesting as he had posted about the search engine he was using before he found the Dr. Martinez page.

I think it's innocent until proven guilty.
2DMat refers to WIBS as a game in the ARG thread. Debunkette seems to avoid meta-discussions.

Hi all, I am a new player, I joined the WIBS site first, before i knew this one existed. I have a question for the vets. If this does turn out to be an ARG , does it seem a little um linear to anyone else? Is this the normal starting procedure? My take on the clues is:
Painting->notes/recipe->tio misterio website->Anita Martinez->picture of B Stove

everthing seems to be very straightforward and unambiguous. All attempts to find hidden meanings (eg in painting, outside websites, html source) have gone basically nowhere. Unless the PM's are veery subtle...
I guess I'm going on a bit here, but I really hope this doesn't turn out to be the marketing campaign for Antarctic beer in the US or something like that!
Also, I am assuming the WIBS site is more "in-game" and am trying to treat it as such, and this is more of a "player" site. Is this a fair assumption? I am interested in the ARG idea, and want do it correctly.

Welcome to the community goldy! Smile You are correct, Unfiction is strictly an Out-of-Game website and the WiBS forums should be treated as In-Game.

From what I've been told, since we're only a few weeks into the game [we're all pretty sure its an ARG at this point], linearity is there only to setup the story. Given time, I'm positive that we'll start to branch out in all sorts of directions.

Plus, why would there be codes in a websites about some strange painting? Wink

thanks for the quick reply Old Man, I guess I am expecting a bit too much too soon!
I am hoping to stay with it, time constraints permitting, it seems to be a good chance to "get in on the ground floor" as it were. Most of the other ARG's I have lurked here leave me a bit lost.

As far as codes in a website about a strange painting, we already know it affects airport security guards and small dogs in mysterious ways, who knows what it may do to web designers? Wink

I am totally predicting that eventually, we will find Ben stove's personal Website. And that it will be chock full of codey goodness, being the paranoid alien hunter he seems to be. Likely there will be other websites as well.

Well, I ordered the cd, so hopefully they are. Laughing
I'm 99.9999% sure they are. It wouldnt be the first time that a band has been slipped into an ARG for exposure. We got to listen to several tracks from different artists during Art of the Heist.

Actually, about half of my cd collection came from music i started listening to after hearing the music in AotH. (Will Star and Audio Agents led me to the Crystal Method, Daft Punk, and indirectly Bond, etc.)

Oh, and hello everybody! I've been lurking here for a while now (like a year) but i decided to dive right in now! Nice seeing yah all...especially those of you i recognize from LCP and AotH!

Goldy, a general rule of thumb for ARGs is....There is no correct way! Thats why i think they are so fun!

I actually took Tucker's background pic (The maze) and played around with it, trying to fill in sections of it with bright green paint and such (ala Pipe Dream) to see if it held a hidden message...but no Razz

At least if this game picks up, it'll be after exams, so i'll have more time for it. Wait, i should be studying! bye all!

*edit* Oops. Sorry for the MASSIVE avatar. It's fixed now.
