Clue:An actor in this film was also one of the writers of a film in a well known trilogy from this same country.

I'm not even sure I understand the clue.

Park Chan Wook was a writer and director of a very famous trilogy but isn't an actor in anything I can find.

And I can't find a writer from any of the Better Tomorrow series (John Woo, Chow Yun-Fat = priceless movie combination) who is an actor.

I'm sure I would remember that scene with the umbrellas if I had seen it.

I guess I am an ignorant American, I feel ashamed. :/

I guess it's "A Bittersweet Life" ...

Not complaining, just wondering: What made you think this wasn't gonna be a difficult movie to guess? Did it have a wide release?

My guess is
Jopog manura 1 2 or 3?

Or for you english folk who've never been to South Korea:

My Wife is a Gangster 1 2 or 3?

Never seen the second two of the trilogy, but I had the opportunity to see the first one in theaters. I'd recommend anyone to go see it.

I'm probably wrong though, been a while...

Is the actor we are looking for Tsui Hark? He was one of the writers of one of the The Better Tomorrow films

It is A Bittersweet Life.
The actor is Mu-yeong Lee who is credited as being a writer for "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance".

GuyIncognito: I didn't say it wasn't going to be difficult, just that it might not be.
I had no idea how well known this film is, and I know there are quite a few movie buffs here.
So I knew that using stock photos this would be guessed fairly quickly if anyone has seen it.
It's a good flick anyway, so check it out.
