Re: Please let's discuss the box in Sarah's home - isn't it

walter wrote:
Ok so I am changing from lurking to getting involved. I am a newbie so maybe I missed something. My curiosity centers on the box Jason stored in the house and then took away.

Subsequently people came back to the house and did a thourough "cleaning".

How much more odd can that be. I have asked Sarah through her Guest Book about the box ... maybe a wild goose chase.

I agree, but I don't think Sarah knows much about it. Hopefully we'll get some contact information soon for Jason, who might be able to start shedding some light on the box, as well as other happenings.

If she asks, tell her the name Stephen Collins Foster and "look no further then the local government building". She will know what to do with it.

-this looks an awful lot like the vigenere that was on the last "drawing" page of ACWE website

-all this conjecture and emailing has made me very tired.. I'm hoping someone else will crack this as I lie down for a while.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Working on the lucky guess that the first words would be 'Hey Sarah' I reverse enginered a key. The reverse engineered key was "unitedwe" but the rest of the text remained garbled, so I extrapolated...
Key: United we stand, devided we fall
(sic) after noticing regular errors, I changed spelling of divided to devided.

Message: Hey, Sarah. After all of this time you still do not remember me? So, it has come to this then? It's "exlax", remember me now? I have asked someone to send this message to you on my behalf. There is something going on at IC that I can not tell you about right now. You know that I have always looked after you, even in high school. So trust me when I tell you that something is not right and that I believe that you may be in a lot of danger. My company has placed me in a position to look deeper into the problem and I will do so in good time. Please know that I will not let anything happen to you. I have some of my best men looking after you.

The latest. Editted for time, this occurs over 3 days.

Responses are in quoted text. My emails are unquoted.

Jack works for a security company now... and he was startled to see your name in a 'Missing Persons' case filed by your husband. This, brought back memories of you. According to him, and others I've been in contact with, this was a false report by Jason, and you of course are safe and sound. Odd to say the least, which lead Jack to tell me all he knows about you, and what Jason might've wanted to stir up by making said report.

Quote:
My husband? Oh, now I am sure that you have me confused with someone else.
Jason and I are not married, even though we live together. I hope that will
change soon, but I am not going to hold my breath. I am sure that Jason will
propose when the time is right.

A "missing persons" case about me? That is rather odd I will admit. You have
to realize that Jason has a tendency to over-react about certain things. A
few weeks ago I went to go see my parents and stayed the night there. Is it
possible that this is what you are talking about? I do remember telling
Jason, but there has been so much on his mind lately that certain things
could have been forgotten.

However, if this was the case, I would assume that Jason would have reacted
differently when I returned the following day. He probably would have asked
me a whole bunch of questions concerning my whereabouts and told me what he
had done based on his concerns. But that is not the case here.

You do have me quite intrigued.

Oops with the husband thing. I reach for straws asking for some contact info.

----
Err... sorry about the husband thing. My mind is not at its best of late.

But I'm glad to hear this has you intrigued. And I can say that this isn't a one time over-reaction.

After you were confirmed alive and well, Jason took his case elsewhere. He has been taking newspaper ads out up north applying the same information, about your disappearance and the fact that you are missing. Jason seems to want some security agency attention.

But I can't email you without asking you more questions... did you live on the farm your whole life? Jack seems to maintain the fact that you once lived as his neighbour.

But more than anything, this has me wondering about Jason. You've said before that he contacts you via chatting when away. Is there any possibility I could get an email address or something? I'd just like to get this all cleared up A.S.A.P.

Quote:
Don't worry about the misunderstanding concerning the whole "husband" issue.
Hopefully it will come true some day.

I'm not quite sure how to react to what you have told me. I would rather
talk to Jason about this before I come to any real conclusions. Don't get me
wrong, it's not that I do not believe what you say. It's just that I would
like to have a personal chat with him as to what is going on as
confirmation. Sometimes these sort of things just need to be done in a
personal arena rather then a public one.

However, your comment about Jason wanting some "security company" attention
would explain that man that came by the other day. Perhaps he has gotten the
attention that he was looking for?

As far as where I have lived: I did not live on a farm my whole life. Just
before high school started my family moved to a more "suburban" area of the
town. They said that it was for my own good to be surrounded by people my
own age instead of spending tme alone as I normally did in those days.
However, this still does not clear up any issue concerning your "friend". I
still can not, for the life of me, figure out who you are talking about.

For the e-mail: The only e-mail address that I have for him is the one that
he uses for business use, which his company keeps an eye on. I do not think
that they would like me to just give it out to any old person who asks for
it. I hope that you can understand.

When we get together we chat on-line in our own private little room. You can
probably figure out what the name of it is, but I will leave that part of
the conversation at that and not disclose anything else (like where it is
located on the internet). If Jason were to see someone else in there he
would be very upset. He set it up to be used just for us and would take it
as an insult that someone was dropping by for this conversation or that.
That room means a lot to him. It means a lot to us. It is really our only
true means of communication outside of face-to-face.

I will be sure to have a little chat with him when he returns in a few
weeks. I was hoping that he would be back sooner then that, but his company
just let him know that there was extension on his stay. At least he will be
back in time for Valentines Day. I can't wait to see what he has brought me.

Expect something to turn up on Valentines Day, I'd bet.

----

Also, In other correspondance I'm not bothing to quote, she still hasn't found any info on Jason's new company, although I think she may relay info about the old to me, which should help us fast forward to the new.

----

And Jack reveals the next part of the story is about to arrive. And sheds some light on his absense from the yearbooks.

Quote:
This is true. I was not in any of the school yearbooks. There was just something about my picture being taken that didn't suit me very well. Even if it was free.

It is also true that Sarah used to live on a farm until her family moved next door to mine. I wish that there was more to that story, but there isn't. You pretty much already know how that all turned out.

I will be leaving sometime this week to put the posters up all over the world. Don't worry, I will be beack in time to host the contest on Sunday. After that, the fun really begins.

LAX

Also, good solve Lucy! Odd about the spelling error... typo or incidental?

EDITATIONAL!!!

Sarah reveals the name of Jason's company pre-buyout

Quote:
The company that Jason works for used to be called "Biomed Corporation". It
has gone by many names since then, the most recent of which is an odd one.
You would think that an odd name would be something that someone could
easily remember, but these depression meds that I am taking is messing with
my head. Rimshipe? Urnshike? Well, it's something along those lines.

I am sure that when Jason returns from his trip that he will have something
on him that will tell me the name. But that won't be until the 13th of
February. I could ask him the next time that I talk to him online, but the
opportunity to bring up that topic doesn't present itself very often. We
usually just say "hello" and tell each other how much we miss each other.
Oh, that reminds me, I have to get ready for our chat in 20 minutes and I
still have e-mail to reply to.

Googling "Biomed Corp" "chemicals" and "buyout" gives many results, but if we are looking for OOG possibilities, here's the most likely.

http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/medicalnews.php?newsid=34803

And it is a wierd name, one few would remember if not familiar with the company prior. However, I just browsed the first page of google results, may I suggest whoever has some time not only research a bit more, but a bit more thoroughly as well.[/quote]

Me to Sarah:
Quote:
Hi Sarah,

I love the blog, I just had to let you know. I can relate so personally to so much of what you say about your relationship and just being. I'll be sure to read every update Smile

Regards,
Lucy

P.S.
I am known amongst my friends as a bit of a psychic, and am getting a strange feeling right now. Can you please clarify what, if anything, the word 'exlax' means to you? It sounds odd I know, but I thought it couldn't hurt to ask.

Sarah's reply:
Quote:
The only thing that the word "exlax" hurts is my stomach. This is going to be a really gross story, so prepare yourself.

There was this guy that I knew in high school... Brad Thomas, I believe? We used to live next door to each other way back when. Anyway, he wasn't exactly what you would call "the most popular of people" and so he got picked on a lot. He was very nice to me, but other people didn't take the time to see his kindness. Personally, I think he had a really huge crush on me. There is a whole "dinner" story that goes with that but I will save that for another time.

Anyway, long story short, someone slipped some "Ex-Lax" into his soda during Study Hall and the end result was really something to behold. So, from that point on, everyone called him "exlax".

Wow, that really brings back some memories. Ha!

So we have a real name for our 'Jack'; Brad Thomas. Why has he been fibbing to us?

Edit: Regarding the name of Jason's company, wouldn't that be the 'IC' that Jack/Brad refers to in the decoded message above? Or have I forgotten some other IC that's been mentioned already?
