Since it seems to have been sent to just members on this board, maybe its just some guy from the forums trying to get you riled up. Just saying, be on your guard, gentlemen, since it WAS a free email adress. Meanwhile, I'll try asa hard as I can to assist.

Gives a new "summary" page:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Renata Isle Pre-Game
"The Composer"

Thankyou to everyone who has been following the events of "The Composer", the unfiction.com exclusive pregame to the upcoming "Renata Isle". I can assure you, we are a long way from finished. This is just the end of the beginning.

The aim of "the composer" was always to lead into the main game. Hence the cheap websites and free e-mail accounts. A lot of things are about to change. However i hope you had fun with this. Here is the summary so far.

THE COMPOSER

Three e-mails were sent to 3 sets of people. These names were found on an unfiction thread for registering interest in recieving trailheads. As it mentioned a composer, and as the current Perplex City puzzle involved finding a composer, it recieved instant attention. Although not my intention. The code read "the police did not solve my code, you are my only hope", and the hunt was on. It was soon learnt that the composer and his friend Ivan met with an incident on their way to portugal and ended up somewhere else.

KEYS AND LOCKS

Amidst a series of e-mails and updates to journals and profiles, three security "keys" (passwords) and "locks" (entry sites) were mentioned by the composer. Eventually a mysterious website was leaked over AIM giving just a username access and password code. With every key, the site has updated itself. What is the purpose behind http://www.serversecurity.tk?

THE FIRST

The first was a code involving words used as an alphabet, and numbers disguised as the names of the recievers of the original 3 emails. A2BC112A3BCB was the key and the username was Renata, found in the source code. This was first solved by Massive.

THE SECOND

The second key had to be entered at terminal on the island itself. However the composer only had an image as a clue and sent it as a picture in his yahoo profile. The place was correctly identified as Lisbon, Portugal, by a village name on a tram in a picture, by Metlagirl. However, the composer needed a username. In a cache found on a computer in Renata, and leaked to the public, was a hidden document, giving information on an "invasion", an "aura", and two outsiders. One captured (the composer), and one who ran into the wilderness (Evan.) It also contained the key D784. This was discovered by Tufty.

THE THIRD

This is where the story of Renata Isle begins. According to www.serversecurity.tk, the final lock will open at 20.00 GMT at the specified date. A string of numbers were broken down by Travelling Performer? and arranged by AllisdairPark. These give us the date 17.02.2006. What will happen when all the locks are broken?

THE UNSOLVED MYSTERIES

WAR AND PEACE

Having been accused of his codes being easy to break, The Composer sent AlisdairPark a special code. 26 pages long in base64 format. Decoded it required another base64 before it emerged as morse code, then binary. Which was then decoded into an as yet undechipered code. Although solvable, this was never intended as more than a challenge. The reward yields a little more story, as the composer feels he can speak freely with such a watertight code.

8 LETTER WORDS

During a binary code, one of the unfiction members incorrectly posted it at the forum. Leaving off a 1, which spoilt the code. He was sent an anagram of "recheck" by the composer. However it was spelt incorrectly, with an extra C, affectively being an unintentional red herring the whole pregame. The other 8 letter word is a ROT'd anagram of "alphabet", again a simple hint that led to being a mystery.

RENATA ISLE

Set directly after the events of "The composer", comes an ARG on a far bigger scale. What will happen on the 17th of the second? Where and who is Evan? Will Jared escape his captors? What is going on in the village of Renata, and who are the eyes?

Trailer

THANKYOU

For all those who worked on the puzzles of the composer, thankyou. Although this was just a basic game, it is just a prelude. The full story of Renata won't use free websites or e-mails. Expect a jump in quality and join us again. Thanks for playing Smile

sorry Rolling Eyes simple hysteria, maybe PMs should take note that putting a 3 in anything (or mentioning a cube) will make me lose what limited control of my faculties I possess Smile

Thank you for taking the time to create this Pre-Game. Here are some observations and suggestions for the main feature:

- more story tie-ins with regards to the puzzles; rather than having arbitrary word puzzles use keywords and passphrases that are meaningful to the plot (Username: Renata is a good example)
- solving one puzzle could yield hints on how to solve others, rather than sending out ambiguous hints by email
- run spellcheckers and/or find other people to check messages. Frequent typos at best reduce the overall quality of the game, at worst confuse all players.
- having more than one person involved could raise the game's appeal, i.e. find someone who is good at writing screenplays, someone else who knows his Photoshop inside out, etc.

Regarding War&Peace: writing that this puzzle is harder because the other ones were too easy is not a great justification. How about: "they interrogated me today because my emails to you looked too suspicious. I have to be more careful from now on.." Excessively layered encryption (Base64, Base64, Morse, Binary, Something else) seems a little silly. Anyone can run code through publicly available decoders and see what happens. I'd much rather see a novel encryption scheme and some hints on how to analyze it.

Good luck with Renata !
