[SOLVED] Code from back of note found in Milwaukee I decided to pull this out into a seperate thread so it didn't get lost.
Scan of the note are on caspian's flickr
http://www.flickr.com/photos/caspian_the_tenth/
Caspian translated it in the other thread which I am copying here:
Quote:
NOTE:
Front side reads: Quote:
SETH: PLEASE DELIVER THESE PHOTOS TO CORDELIA OR STEVIE. THANK YOU.
Back side reads:
Quote:
PUT THEM IN ORDER, FIND THE GAPS

LAIDCRINASHCTIEIOJVYW
UIBAPORDZEIQUMCHROSNOR
RALJYZMINMBBUFFULDSNXAC
OHMRSAHSWAHLLALKMNZUWTEHUJDI
HSJMZURQFAHIUQHZTRDFLLHUDGO
OMSVEYAOACIUHYUFNVGUTSILKBR
ODWLAYIUHGNEPHGYGEH
*The two U's that are underined could possibly be V's, but they look more like U's to me.

By looking at the original note, do you think that the line breaks are part of the puzzle, or were they forced because there was no space on the paper?
Looking at the image in flickr even though I'm not sure about the edges, it looks to me like the lines break because they reach the end of the line, so when trying to solve this one we should look at it as one continuous line.
I'm also not sure if the other marked numbers we got are related to this and might be required to solve this, so I'm waiting for the rest of the caches to be found before attempting to solve this one...

got sick of looking at contact1976 so i decided to take a crack at this one. turns out it's solvable with the info we already have
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
First, take all the underlined numbers on the back of the photos from the Milwaukee and Indiana caches and put them in order according to the angle-bracketed numbers ("put them in order" as Steven instructed), like so:
317025102
<2>
133702410
<6>
039825108
<8>
131985300
<9>
133782511
<10>
The letters on the back of the note are:
CPWUOERULDZEUNDEMRLAIDCRINASHCTIEIOJV
YWUIBAPORDZEIQUMCHROSNORRALJYZMINMBBU
FFULDSNXACOHMRSAHSWAHLLALKMNZUWTEHUJD
IHSJMZURQFAHIUQHZTRDFLLHUDGOOMSVEYAOA
CIUHYUFNVGUTSILKBRODWLAYIUHGNEPHGYGEH
The underlined digits on the backs of the photos tell how many letters to skip ("find the gaps"). So first we take the first letter "C" then skip 3 letters and take the next letter "O", skip 1 letter and take the next "R", skip 7 letters and take the next "D", skip 0 letters and take the next "E" and so on....
Going through all the numbers gives:
CORDELIASTEVIEIMSORRYFORALLTHISILOVEYOUFLYHGGH
With spaces:
CORDELIA STEVIE IM SORRY FOR ALL THIS I LOVE YOU FLYHGGH
Doesn't seem to help much but not sure what the FLYHGGH at the end means. Maybe it's random padding. Maybe be it's supposed to be "FLYHIGH". Perhaps a password or a key for something else...
I've already emailed Seth...

Once again... Great job, Grumpy!
It's frustrating how it seems so simple once you've cracked these.

I think most of us thought that we need all the caches to begin solving this and GB just tried and got lucky. Bah, I hate you!
No, I don't. Good job!

Well done!
This makes me think that either there aren't caches in bristol and melbourne, or else they don't contain pictures
Gotta just wait for ribbons, i guess...!#

i still have a nagging feeling that this puzzle isn't completely solved. it seems strange to go through so much trouble to encrypt such a simple, harmless message.
- there is still the FLYHGGH at the end of the message (as I've mentioned in my spoiler post above, it might be a password or key for something else)
- and only 39 (or 46 counting the FLYHGGH) of the 185 letters were used...

Vigenere with both "FLYHGGH" and "FLYHIGH" puts out gibberrish
