"what is my name" (L8 U9 U4 L1) sound pretty good to me.
when you use U9 like this it sounds right. I agree though, when I first listened to it on its own I thought "this Mi(ght)"
As many as 3 voices? Possiblly. I think 2 x 9 more likely, especially since room for 9 on playback. May even be one voice that changes tone.

Has anyone found any link ups for L3 (~ILY)? i can't seem to find any that sound right
EDIT: and L9 is a strange one too sort of E.A,
but t changes around other words a bit
I'm starting to think the sounds don't change at all. it's just how we hear them combined with other sounds
EDIT 2: and L8 has a slight pause before the WHAT
EDIT 3: and even worse, I've just realised I can't work on this in work tomorrow as there are no sound cards on the PCs....

Alisdair:
it definitley sounds as if E in "E.A." comes at end of word but none of the bites seem to make sense when put in front of it.
This may well mean you are right about using 'blank' bites as in scrabble.
EDIT: And maybe the missing sounds will appear in the blanks if we get the right order.
The reason bites sound different on their own is our brain trying to get them to make sense. We "hear" what our brain interprets them to be (based on it's experience of real words) rather than what they actually are.

OK, well now I think L1 which we've been using for "ame" in "name" fits pretty well as "een" in "Angeline" or "between"! Odd, but I don't believe the sound is actually changing - just the way we hear it (as I mentioned above).
Anyway this allows weired but coherent phrases like:
L4 __ U7 U1 U5 L1 L6 U2 U6 (swapping U6 and L1 gives only a slight change in tone)
"when I am Angeline in between"
btw, does anyone think we should be spoilerising our phrases?
EDIT: googling leads me here
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002IQCAM/102-4568351-1652141
but I fear little more than coincidence...
... unless Christian Rock is big in PXC

OK, I don't think I've been much help up to now, and this might be completly off track, but i'll trow it in there;
It's not trying to say I am 'Evangeline Lilly' is it? as in the girl who plays Kate in LOST?
Just a theory-proberbly not right

Alright, so I know this probably has nothing to do with anything, but try pressing tab repeatedly to highlight the different boxes. Does anyone find the order in which the boxes are highlighted strange? Or is that just a normal thing that has nothing to do with anything?

sound clips Well, I don't know if this will really help much...but my husband recorded the sound clips for me using Audacity. We tried playing them slowed down a bit...it makes some of the guessing as to what the sounds are a little easier, perhaps.
I haven't had time to mess around with it too much, but I'll attach the .wav file in case any one else wants to try their hand at it.
The sound file goes in order Left to Right of the top row, then the bottom row.

Great, I'll have a look at the wav and see if I can splice any of it back together visually.
I've been looking at/listening to CD but haven't come up with anything.
EDIT: Waveform looks good for phrases we have so far...
EDIT: Queen Angeline is a strong possible. Looks good. Sounds good.
(the "queen" fragment's waveform doesn't look like it is the end of a word)

EDIT: Ok that was totally wrong! I'm pretty sure I have in correct order (using Audacity), trying to figure out last word, but sounds like a riddle. Just need to match the sounds back to 'blocks' and I'll post order

oooh...It's exciting that we might be that close! I commend you for your patience at working with the sounds clips...I tried a little more and I wasn't getting any further doing it in audacity than I did doing it on the website.

sorry this is taking a while
The first eight (I think) are:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
L4 __ U7 U1 U2 U6 L9 L3 L6
and next bit is:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
U8 __ U5 U3 L7 L8 U9 U4 L1
phew!
now we need to solve the riddle.
I think it might be to do with this novel:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
A Case of Conscience
EDIT: Ok you still need to put blanks in 2nd place - this must be a bug with the hesh system.

Phant, try U8 between the first and second blocks of your first set. It makes the first part of it more understandable (and I think it's fairly similar to what someone else posted earlier), but I still have no idea what the last half of that message set says. Maybe you can help me out.
EDIT: I think it's the last three blocks of your answer that I disagree with.

well it's a bit clearer on the sound file - but I'm sure it's right, you can clearly see from the waveforms where the clips have been cut.
I'll tidy up file and post it if you like, but what it says is:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
When I am between alien and lithian, what is my name?
of course not entirely sure about word after 'and' but that's what it sounds like.
EDIT:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I suppose it could be "lydian" or I could be mis-hearing names of elements

lydian I think "Lydian" could be a real lead, if that is what it says... could that "alien" be anything else?
Lydian can be a musical term...and this is a music producer's website we're trying to get into. See this for more info.
Hmmm...now I really should go to bed!

Okay, going with musical terms...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
what if alien isn't alien at all? What if it's Aeolian, as in an Aeolian harp?
