[NEW] The Sky Sisters A new, really old-school-style web site has become a member of CARTS: The Sky Sisters . They seem to be friends of Leon, with some extremely fuzzy pictures of UFOs on their site. Fun times!

UFOIndia1998.jpg One of the pictures on the site has some text amongst the garble. I'm bad at discerning what is and isn't meant to be there, but in http://www.joincarts.org/SS/UFOIndia1998.jpg some text stood out as odd and relevant:
Quote:
T o u t a t i s ( 4 1 7 9 ) - 0 4 0 9 2 3 - 0 8 3 5 u t - 1 0 m i n s - t e x t
Which is the asteroid's name and number, followed by what could be a date and time.

Wow! Nice catch Lucy! I think all of us were so into these caches we didn't think to comb over Sky Sisters!

How did you get that text to appear? I cant find it when I open the image as a text file but I can see SOMETHING yellow in the lowerleft hand corner of the thumbanil but its not there when I open it as an image.
Ok the yellow stuff is gone from the thumbnail too.. Im very confused.

We knew, previously that the 9/23/04 date coincided with Touatis' fly-by of earth.
So given the 65year period for this asteroid, what's the deal with the 1998 date.
I mean, some UFO enthusiasts seeing lights in the sky in 1998 isn't a big deal, but the 2004 date/time and asteriod name in the file IS odd.
EDIT:
Got to thinking... What if this whole site is being used as an illustration of the kind of nut-jobs we're dealing with. Let's just say that this group found some pics of the Touatis fly-by and simply renamed them to meet their 1998 story requirements. Possible?

Properties of the jpg A quick look at the properties of the jpg confirms that the photo was taken on 23/09/2004 at 8:35pm with a Canon EOS 10D.
A question: where it says 'Exposure Time: 601 sec.' does that actually mean it was taken over 10 mins, thus explaining the elongation of the shape?

see this page: http://www.possumobservatory.co.nz/toutatis_asteroid.htm
Note the info besides the image, the name of the jpg file and the same text appearing in the jpg file. The image on Sky Sister was probably taken from this site and cropped...

Exactly they kept the shutter open for 10 minutes so you can see the movement of that asteroid relative to the other stars. This also explains the "10mins" in
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
T o u t a t i s ( 4 1 7 9 ) - 0 4 0 9 2 3 - 0 8 3 5 u t - 1 0 m i n s
So are the Sky Sisters lieing or is this an oversight of the PMs ?[/spoiler]
