Were this Brokeback Mountain: The ARG, he'd probably be right - homophobia is offensive, but admittedly widespread. However, this video hardly goes beyond what you'd see in an "edgy" Super Bowl commercial. I didn't even think of it being unappealing to other people on that level until Loudboy brought it up.

g3k, I think you're talking about the MI3 thing...

When I posted previously, I was getting a 404 on pherotones.com.

But its back now, so ignore me. Sorry for the vagueness.

Trust me when i say how much restraint i am trying to keep mustered for this topic, being a gay rights activist in a drag theater troupe. When i made my comment about homophobia being offensive, it was in hopes to drop ANY such conversations about it. This not being the time nor the place.

ok i'll try to make this the last post related to this subject. i'm sorry to cause any discomfort or confusion to anyone. really, i'm a gay rights activist and the only reason i was saying this was my opinion on the commerciall/proof.

if this was a legit product, i would doubt that would be how they would advertise it.
and i don't think ads like that would be allowed on the superbowl commercials after they banned godaddy.com's commercial and microsoft's xbox 360 ad.

sry to go off topic at all. not my original intent.

Has anyone checked out any of the sites mentioned on the pheratones blog? I'm thinking of specifically http://www11.nrk.no/urort/user/?id=20746 and http://www.mikeschramm.com/?p=878. maybe they are other sites that will be involved in something? I find it especially interesting how the Doctor draws attention to the guy's bio in his blog...
Also, has anyone noted the use of the term "the beast" in the latest entry heading? Could this be a subtle hint to those in the know about what is to come?
I just had a thought from a previous post, she was talking about that Mozart opera that she was listening to that's about an orgy or something...And pherotones is about sex...and she had hinted to a traumatic previous romantic encounter....
Dunno if there's anything in it, just throwing ideas into the air.

EDIT: Also, the name Orchids means "testicle", because apparently orchids look like testicles. Never really saw it myself.
So even if the hobbies aren't actuall clues, it looks like they could have been very specifically chosen to reflect certain things.

(who is excited at the prospect of finally being involved in an ARG after ages of reading up on them)

There was a Pherotones ad in my campus newspaper yesterday, with a header that implied the good doctor herself would be visiting my campus soon...

That would be pretty exciting, maybe I can get her to consider coming up to my college...

I've been away for some time, but I'm enticed.
My mom sells fiestaware and depression glass on ebay... supports her half of the family doing it, in fact. So not a bad hobby Wink

The (mysteriously absent) Duck

(edit) oh and loudboy, congrats. There seem to be a surprising amount of The Neverending Acronym Community out there playing ARGs. Maybe the GLBTQQATetc are just drawn to ARGs like ILB here at UF.

[ARG/VIRAL MARKETING] Pherotones--new conv with the Dr.

Couple of clues here I think.

[11:07] JIBlock: Dr. Harewood I presume
[11:07] drpherotone: Oh, that's Vanderhood.
[11:08] JIBlock: My apologies. I was thinking of an English Soccer player.
[11:08] drpherotone: Yes, of course.
[11:08] JIBlock: I read your open letter to ARGN.
[11:09] drpherotone: I see.
[11:10] drpherotone: I feel honored that so many brilliant minds would find my humble site worthy of such investigation.
[11:10] JIBlock: Adding me as one of the brilliant minds of course. Smile
[11:11] drpherotone: Indeed
[11:11] drpherotone: I will say some exciting things are cooking here at the Institute.
[11:12] JIBlock: Willing to hint?
[11:12] drpherotone: Wink
[11:13] drpherotone: I am very close to signing a distribution deal with a partner.
[11:13] JIBlock: Congratulations.
[11:13] drpherotone: Oh, well, yes...yes..how do they say "don't count the chicken before they hatch?"
[11:14] JIBlock: It's "Dont count your chickens before they hatch".
[11:14] JIBlock: You were close.
[11:14] JIBlock: May I ask a very probing question?
[11:14] drpherotone: Oh, of course.
[11:15] JIBlock: It was about the video of "unintended consequences"
[11:15] drpherotone: yes?
[11:16] JIBlock: Well, what do you think of some people who criticzed the video as "comedic" and "gay bashing" when you had a man about to marry a woman lust after a man.
[11:16] drpherotone: I understand my research is very controversial.
[11:18] JIBlock: That it is.
[11:21] JIBlock: Are you there, Doctor?
[11:21] drpherotone: But research must go on...
[11:21] JIBlock: So how goes the college tour?
[11:21] drpherotone: oh, yes...well, very exhausted.
[11:22] drpherotone: how did you hear about the tour?
[11:22] JIBlock: Your blog of course.
[11:22] drpherotone: ah, yes...
[11:22] drpherotone: so much activity here...in preparation
[11:22] drpherotone: i've gotten very little sleep
[11:23] JIBlock: In preparation for the tour or the deal?
[11:23] drpherotone: oh, everything...testing, touring etc.
[11:23] drpherotone: research into pherotones is exhausting
[11:24] JIBlock: How is your legal department?
[11:24] drpherotone: not quite sure i follow?
[11:24] drpherotone: "legal department"?
[11:24] JIBlock: Well, let me give you a piece of free advice.
[11:24] JIBlock: Cause I like you, Myra...if I may call you that.
[11:25] drpherotone: of course.
[11:25] JIBlock: Myra...no product is perfect.
[11:25] JIBlock: You are going to get a LOT of unintended consequences and you probably would get sued. You have to have a good legal team behind you.
[11:25] drpherotone: sued?
[11:26] JIBlock: sure.
[11:26] drpherotone: for what?
[11:26] drpherotone: trying to spread love and hope?
[11:26] JIBlock: Well, let me play a scenario for you.
[11:27] JIBlock: You do remember the video that you put on your site right?
[11:27] drpherotone: yes?
[11:27] JIBlock: well, you do know how much weddings cost.
[11:27] drpherotone: Well, I've never been married
[11:28] JIBlock: The average wedding costs about $20,000.
[11:28] JIBlock: Did a little research.
[11:28] drpherotone: A small price to pay for unlocking the secrets of attraction and love.
[11:28] drpherotone: Woudln't you say?
[11:29] JIBlock: With all due respect...that's a tad callous.
[11:30] drpherotone: Perhaps...perhaps. I;ve been so involved in my work, my research, it's all been quite overwhelming
[11:31] JIBlock: Yes. But I find what you just said a tad disturbing. At what cost do you want these Pherotones to work? Do you want to break up marriages? What do you want?
[11:32] drpherotone: No, no. Of course not...but I might suggest that attraction and true love triumphs over all. That is at the heart of my research...bringing people of the world together in love.
[11:33] JIBlock: But at what cost?
[11:33] drpherotone: i trust my rearch will only have good results.
[11:33] JIBlock: For your sake, so do I>
[11:34] drpherotone: thank you. well you can help me, you know.
[11:34] JIBlock: How so?
[11:34] drpherotone: spreading my message of love and science.
[11:35] drpherotone: testing pherotones on yourself and recornding that information and submitting it to the Institute
[11:35] drpherotone: You could start your own blog on the topic. You could become a "Citizen Scientist" and make your own finding.
[11:36] JIBlock: Hmmm....maybe I can spread that message after all.
[11:36] JIBlock: maybe I can get some my other friends involved.
[11:36] drpherotone: I think Goethe said it best...
[11:37] drpherotone: oh, hold on...some new emails and testimonials just came in.
[11:37] JIBlock: do you have to go?
[11:37] JIBlock: Ill let you work.

edit: merged into exsisting Pherotones thread - Rowan
