[UPDATE] Quirky Acuity, 30th January 2006

Quote:
Hesh poker night
Category: me
Time: 07:23 PM

Had a rather interesting evening yesterday, catching up with Kurt - Miranda was out somewhere, so he found himself at a loose end. He finally filled me in on the exploits you guys have been involving him in. It's all rather intriguing but I can't help feeling worried for him. After all, he's in trouble with the law now, which can't be good. Still, I agreed to help him - he told me that he needs to find out who produced the Viard CD which was sent over to Earth, and which contained the message which got him into all this trouble. Someone else had emailed me earlier to say that there's a poker game between Hesh employees every Monday night. So, I'm heading over to Brain Bender later tonight to see what I can winkle out of them over a friendly game of poker. Or, if it turns out the games aren't so friendly, maybe I can pick up a few lecks. I'll let you know how it goes.

Jolly good, looks like we're getting somewhere.

I wonder if she'll get hold of the password for the internal files aswell as finding out who the engineer is? Could be nice for a poke around.

Well, worst case scenario is that she's a fair few lecks up. So then she's got some bail money for when Kurt get's arrested which I'm sure will happen soon for something stupid like jay-walking (side note, do we get done for that in the UK?)....if only Kurt knew about 'Jazz Hands', he could've worked his way outta anything then.

Off topic, but: No, we can't.
As far as I know anyway. Radio 1's Colin did that as a wind-up on Edith a few days ago. He said that he'd been arrested for jay-walking. They said that you acn't be done for jay-walking in the UK. And everyone knows that what Radio 1 says is true.

Heh

Off Topic slightly: Yeah I missed that Radio 1 thing, oh well, useful to know cos I jaywalk all the time.

Maybe they can get done for that in PXC....well Kurt's gonna get arrested for something, I'm sure of it...then he'll break out and be chased around by Tommy Lee Jones...and all chaos will ensue in order to distract us from the main task at hand: Heshy intranet.

It's a good idea, except that Poker is on Thursdays at the 7th, and Pyramids is on Mondays at Brain benders... so no poker tonight for Violet. Maybe she's as good at Pyramids?

Mad For God's sake. Why is everyone so concerned with going down in history as the first one who suggested this, or the first one who discovered that?

It's not just your post, Travelling Performer, so please don't think I'm directing this at you alone. I've been biting my lip (er... holding my hands? keyboard talk) for months watching these posts where someone feels it's very important to point out that he or she was the first player to do such-and-such.

Is there some kind of ARG Hall of Fame that we're all fighting each other to get into? Confused

I can understand for troutable issues, where people are reposting old information that takes up space on the boards, we should link back to the original poster. But just for recognition? Worshippy

Rolling Eyes

How about this:

Congratulations to everyone playing PPC. Chances are, at some point, you've either solved something on your own, uncovered a special plot on your own, or added to the rest of the group's work with your helpful insights. *applause* From here on out, we should all feel confident that when we post something, even if no one reacts to it at first, it has actually been read and appreciated. Let's continue to do our best and have a great time. Cool

EDIT: lunatic computer, that's all. Laughing

Just as you remember that you were the first person to sugest this idea.

And you remember you were the first person to post a dissenting opinion. Wink

Fixed double-posting Smile

Well, others also mentioned the idea of sending Violet to a Hesh employee game earlier in the thread. That said, *everyone's* suggestions are valuable (er, at least the in-game ones Razz), and nobody should feel driven to 'prove' one's worth here.

Wonder what Violet got out of Brain Benders. Hopefully she'll be able to get inside Hesh's offices for the poker on Thursday - they do report seemingly increased traffic.

I am humbled my mokey's humble nature.

Yeah, you're really right. I mean I guess as a game there's a drive to want to score better, be sharper, yaknow? but .. this is not a game, now is it. As Jane McGonigal pointed out, it's an *alternate* reality, and we choose to be here sometimes, and we choose to step out sometimes, and when we step out, sometimes we might get caught up in ourselves and our ego. And that's good, on the surface, to get so engrossed by the world that it touches something deep inside you and you want to fFeel a geat sense of pride in what has been done. It's all really very natural. But a greater sense of being would be to take pride in a moment, knowing you contributed to it, and simply let the moment exist in a peaceful state.

I suppose it is the human condition to want to be excited about your own achievements, especially in a game. I mean, really, that's what a game can be defined as: a set of of energies working against each other to meet competing goals. ARGs, however, have never fFit into any conventional definition of anything.

Well, I am pleased that we are actually finally getting somewhere with this now.

Next point, off topic, but when somethings wound you, you gotta let it out somehow!

Just a point for everyone's future reference: Just because you were the first to post an idea on Unfiction, does not mean you were the first to think of the idea. Many other people, including non-Unfiction members play this game, so may post elswhere/have nowhere to post their ideas.

(And also, I do believe the idea of Violet going to a poker game was discussed in #syzygy a while ago.)

And TP: Please reserve the dissing of other players for no good reason off the boards. This is a place to discuss ideas, not b*tch about each others. Except if someone posts a moany comment, then you b*tch all you like. It's not very nice waking up in the morning to find someone has been mouthing off.

Rant Over.
