Alejo to Participate in Ground-Breaking Live Chat with Earth Fans
By JOYCE HARRINGTON
Pop megastar Alejo Jackson of the legendary band Roll for Damage has agreed to participate in a never-done-before live computer-mediated chat with fans on Earth. The chat, which is scheduled for Wednesday 8 Feb. at 8pm GMT, has been organised with the Centre for Reality Research in conjunction with Mind Candy. Fans who wish to participate should check in with the Sentinel later in the week, as specific directions for how to join the chat will be posted earlier in the day on Wednesday.

Hesh Records spokesman Kai Cinelli called the move a "bold new step in Earth-Perplex City relations." He added that this is just the latest in a string of firsts for Hesh. "With this chat, we remain solidly in that nexus where technology and art intersect and grow," he said. "We're pushing boundaries, and that's what Hesh is all about."

This is just a sign of the increasing involvement between the people of Earth and of Perplex City. In the past year, Earth radio outlets have spoken to student Scarlett Kiteway and Sentinel editor-in-chief Michiko Clark, and another artist from the Hesh stable, Viard, released The Silver City to an Earth-only audience after it spawned too much controversy at home. The communication extends both ways, however, with an increasing number of Earth citizens writing columns and letters for the Sentinel. Seaside Press is also planning the release of book written by a collection of authors on Earth exclusively for a Perplex City audience; the book is scheduled for release as soon as next week.

Alejo Jackson recently confessed in an interview that he is very excited by the idea of interacting with an Earth audience, spurred in part by jealousy of Viard's release of an album on Earth. "This is just me taking back my rightful place at the very edge of things," he joked.

Cinelli says that the chat will be moderated to provide order to proceedings, and only one person at a time will be allowed to speak to Jackson. More specific instructions, he said, will be provided at the time of the event.

Excitement for Earth Events Grows in City
By KATE BREWSTER
Anticipation for the upcoming Earth-based PCAG events continues to grow as the top of the top of the leaderboard balloons further. With 48 players now tying for first place, the points awarded at the event could be crucial in separating out the top puzzle solvers. While the New York event is still open, registration for the London event is now closed, though spectators are welcome to come along to watch the games and swap puzzle cards. PCAG statistician Samara Jones remarked, "It's getting extremely tense. Unless someone cracks one of the unsolved cards in the next three weeks and keeps the answer, the top of the leaderboard could be completely determined by these events."

Currently sharing 49th place, effectively the second spot on the leaderboard, are dvmrph, kameleon, massiverugsale, stumped, and unclean, all with 6778 points from 127 solves, and just needing one more card solve each to join the pack at first place.

In other news, the 5 million-point-mark is certain to be passed by the end of the day. 14,774 players have now registered, with a combined 174,604 cards solved. These numbers are likely to increase rapidly over the next few months as the cards are officially launched in the United States at the International Toy Fair in New York next week. Cube Retrieval Team member Anna Heath explained, "The cards have been available in North America since their release last year, but they were only stocked by a small number of stores. ... This launch will see [the number of stores carrying the cards] increase, making them much more easily obtainable by new Cube hunters."

The total number of incorrect attempts at a solve has now passed 100,000, with players racking up 4856 incorrect attempts in the last week. The average number of cards solved per player is now 18, while the average number of incorrect attempts per player is 11. Over one third of all attempted solves in the last day were incorrect.

The top new player of the week was Pogle, who accrued 3495 points from 94 solves, putting him in 404th place on the overall leaderboard. He was closely followed by UKver2.0 with 2810 points and 88 solves. The top players of the past month are Stevewh with 6839 points and 128 solves, putting him in first place on the overall board; and dobby21, who racked up 6718 points off 126 solves to reach 56th place.

"It's great to see so many new players racing up the leaderboard so quickly," said Heath. "I'm sure it can be quite daunting for new players to find themselves so far down to begin with, but players like Pogle ad Stevewh help show that it is possible to climb quite quickly. We can't wait to see what happens when Wave 3 comes out!"

News in Brief:

Quote:
Unrest, Violence Continue
Late last night, a window at the Soupery on Creation Lane was smashed and the premises set on fire. The building immediately summoned the fire brigade, who were able to bring the blaze under control, though the damage is expected to run to tens of thousands of lecks. Inside the charred interior, two white horizontal chalk marks could be seen, with the word "Warren" was scrawled between. (Full text)

Another sign to add to the list, is there a thread on this yet?

In response to Alejo:

HO... LY... FUDGEMONKEYS.

Regarding the graffiti wars, I was able to make the general conclusion that it's an anrachy-based group of militant radicals; each name before and including this one has included increasingly violent property damage and the referral to a major figure in early Earth anarchy.

Yup all anarchists, strange they're all from Earth though, although I guess a Pro-Earth Anarchist group is possible - or maybe they want to stir up Anti-Earth feeling?

There's also the signs though: Blue Circle, Green Lightning Bolt & now White Parrallel lines.

Let's not forget the futures:

Quote:
Futures
By Madame Bianca, for the week of February 6

The Hand (January 11 - February 10)
There's a big snowstorm coming toward the end of this week, muffin. Make sure you've got more than that half-empty bottle of wine and those five stale crackers in the house to get you by, because there won't be any delivery for you.

The Baby (February 11 - March 10)
Those big plans for Thursday? Reschedule, and I mean it. Unless you somehow relish the idea of spending your Friday cooped up with your ex and the cute thing that's replaced you.

The Eagle (March 11 - April 10)
Heavy snow and ice work to your advantage by delaying the nasty business you had coming this week anyhow. Still not totally avoidable, but at least you'll get through to Monday before the axe falls.

The Spider (April 11 - May 10)
Don't worry, the snow won't affect you at all, button. You'll be housebound by Wednesday night for unrelated reasons. Embarrassing ones, at that. You should really know by now when not to act on those impulses you get.

The Wave (May 11 - June 10)
You, my child, will be sent clear back to the happiest days of your school years when the city sees the worst snowstorm in thirty years. Rally together your neighbours and have a rousing snowball fight, followed by a nice hot cup of cocoa -- with whipped cream, of course.

The Archer (June 11 - July 10)
Think you're cleverer than Madame, off trusting to the meteorologists and their weather predictions? Don't worry, it doesn't hurt my feelings. I know you'll get what you deserve by the end of the week.

The Half-filled Jug (July 11 - August 10)
As snow blankets the city, you will find in the white and silence a heavy peace. It's a message to you from the stars, pumpkin. It shouldn't take an extraordinary weather event to bring you calm.

The Dragon (August 11 - September 10)
You never were the cold-weather type, were you? Best pull out the blankets you keep for guests, you'll be needing them yourself. Not that it's so cold inside, it's just that you're so very suggestible.

The Three Balls (September 11 - October 10)
Well, well, I see somebody has been reading up on emergency preparedness. You're well-stocked for the weather, and plenty to spare. Share the joy, sunshine, and invite over a few friends you know won't be ready. Know any Hands?

The Dice (October 11 - November 10)
My, aren't you the lucky one this week? Soft glow of candles inside, soft fall of snow outside, and you snuggled up with someone who thinks you're the dreamiest. Who needs the rest of the city, anyway?

The Maze (November 11 - December 10)
An urgent personal crisis drives you out into the snow against all public advisories. Sometimes you've got to do what's necessary, right, lovey? Don't worry, it'll take you five times too long to get anywhere, but you'll be safe enough.

The Apple-Thief (December 11 - January 10)
But one who remains ecstatic within the self; self illuminated and fully satisfied within the self only; activities do not exist for him.

And remember, the grain of rice does not choose who eats it.

So either we get to find out how wrong Madame Bianca is this week, or Alejo is going to be too snowed in to make it to the chat?

I think I figured out the symbols:
Blue Circle with "Proudhon"
Supposedly the anarchist circle with an A is based on Proudhon's "Anarchy is Order." See http://www.anarchism.net/symbol_ca.htm

Green Lightning Bolt with "Stirner"
According to the wiki on Stirner, a big part of Stirner's philosophy was the Ego and in particular the theory of power. The lightning bolt could represent power.

White Horizontal Lines with "Warren"
Warren was a socialist. He even wrote a book called Equitable Commerce. I think the two white lines are a "="

As far as the colors go, I have no idea.

There could be a connection between the victims and the anarchist associated:
Stirner found at Euler's circle. Stirner was anti-religion and Euler was a devout Christian who almost studied theology instead of math.
Warren found at the Soupery. Warren was a socialist and the Soupery a capitalist business.

Also, GasperLewis pointed out here a tree of the founders of anarchism. If that tree is right, then the next name is going to be "Molinari."
Molinari was big into freedoms, especially free trade. So my guess would be the next symbol would be something symbolizing freedom.

And, each attack has happened at almost exactly 2 week intervals so my guess would be Molinari with some sort of freedom associated symbol will appear in two weeks.

Nice to see the Dice future taking a turn for the better! Sounds like I'm in for a good week Very Happy

Good work on the symbols there, I was going down the more traditional "earth, water, fire" route.

Bah, not going to be able to make it to the chat, can someone make sure that a transcript is wiki'd?

Okay, now I'm almost entirely convinced that the Third Power is operating a weather machine. I wonder what a snowstorm is needed for...

Ah, conspiracy fun...

I couldn't find any mention of these in any other post so I'm not entirely sure if they're new or not. Is it possible that the quote "Hale's journey ends" has something to do with the Shuffled card?

Also, Nebula's being discussed in the news could be a nice way to tie in asking Alejo about stars and the like.
