I'd imagine its for Postcard 12 because it's the only one with any kind of chess reference.

But, it was a shot in the dark...so I don't really know.

Either way, it's for a poster we've already found.

I mentioned this in the wrong forum (postcard reference)

Postcard #17 reads with grey filters and turned counter-clockwise

DEPCAYH
JACYHASYJC

It would be good if someone with better filters than I (I used sunglasses) and better eyes could take a look at it, because some of the letters are "decayed" enough that I'm not exactly sure what they are.

I've tried ROTting it and some vigenering but come up with nothign so far.

That's a baobab tree in the picture. Baobobs are all over the lower part of Africa. The Baobob tree figured prominently in the story "The Little Prince"

Is a list of all the different federal reserve banks that issue notes in the US... if you take the letter that is on the one dollar bill that represents each bank, you get:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

NEW YORK = B
SAN FRANCISCO = L
BOSTON = A
PHILADELPHIA = C
DALLAS = K
NEW YORK = B
BOSTON = A
SAN FRANCISCO = L
SAN FRANCISCO = L
RICHMOND = E
CLEVELAND = D

which leads to

Postcard 24:

It can be solved in the same way as postcard 20, except it's 8-dot braille instead of 6-dot.

It deciphers to "To be on a quest is nothing more or less than to become an asker of..":, which is the beginning of a quote by Sam Keen.

I have attached the result of my meagre photoshop meddling.
The best that Decrypto can come up with is:
1 -2.9104 fondlingly inkfish
2 -3.0123 epicaridan riverly
3 -3.3449 oribatidae timothy

I fear we're looking for some obscure african script or something Sad

So...to totally shift gears...Postcard #9 has got 629.2872 as a clue. According to Google 629.2872 is the library call number for the Motor Vehicles - Maintenance and Repair section. And there's a Chesterton Muffler Man located right in the middle of the picture. Maybe thats the clue?

Shocked

This is right down the street from me! I can maybe take a look around tonite, but it's almost dark already. If not today, then definitely tomorrow.

Just to keep you all informed... I did swing by the Muffler Man and it is right near where the gps coords point. It's no longer in business so I took a quick look around, but didn't see a poster. I'll try again this weekend and widen the search a bit. There are a ton of businesses around there so it could be in/on any of those.

I think there are repeated sympbols that you are treating as exclusive. i.e the P and the H of the first word appear to be the same to me. In total I think there are only 12 original characters. Arranged for a cryptogram, it might be more like...

Taking a close look at postcard7.jpg it's clear that there are pop art type images overlayed on the original painting. Messing with some channel levels in photoshop I was able to kind of highlight them.

I have absolutely no idea what it mean. fire, girls, flowers, a dove and a bunny... also a sort of blocky background that came through and doesn't appear relative to the original painting either... could be residual from turning the painting into a 4 color print. not sure.

Lucy, I think you're right, I was trying to look at the letters upside-down with sunglasses, so I wanted someone else with better resources to try it. Now that Kender made a better resolution of it, I'm pretty sure we can crack this.

Regarding postcard 21.bmp/6.bmp
josiah wrote:
Just as a point, the model that was used for body of the statue in postcard 6 was called Langdon Morse

Maybe it's not morse code?

Langdon Morse posed for the Lincoln statue in Chicago. Did he also pose for the Lincoln Memorial?

by the way...

postcard24.bmp was solved by freshness
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
with 8 bit braille. the answer was http://www.anothercontestworthentering.com/questions.html

but in the master list that answer is associated with postcard26.jpg which was recognized as wingdings 3 font translated to ABFH INRSX EFLS TXXZ ELMR WWAF or ABFH INRSX EFLS TYYZ ELMR VWAF but not solved.

The other 2 wingdings postcards were postcard5.jpg, which was solved by Kender and Lysithea
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://anothercontestworthentering.com/blowhole.html

and postcard28.jpg, which was solved by enaxor
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.anothercontestworthentering.com/spat.html

So, postcard 24.bmp needs to be swapped with postcard26.jpg in the list of solves.

I think...

So... http://www.anothercontestworthentering.com/ball.html

Once again, I kinda stumbled into it.

But I'd imagine it's for http://www.anothercontestworthentering.com/postcard1.jpg. There's a baseball field...and 4 numbers in Base 4...but past that I got no idea how the numbers click.

Anybody else see somethin I'm missing?

EDIT: Ok...here's a reach.

Tallying is sometimes called "Base 1"...so that convention comes in handy here.

1st base - Base 1 - 11 - 1+1 - 2 - B
2nd base - Base 2 - 1 - A
3rd base - Base 3 - 110 = 9+3 = 12 - L
Home plate - Base 4 - 23 = 8+3 = 11 - K

So I got balk. And balk+1=ball......I guess.

I found my poster today in the library. I couldn't get the forums to let me add an attachment so I put the pictures up on my flickr
