Good catch, Lucy.
I'm pretty sure I copied the text directly from the kunstmatig page originally and coincidentally, used the exact same three words for a Google search you show in your post. If you try it with the "a" in "nonexistant", you only get a few hits, which mostly associate with Kazantzakis. It bugged me that I couldn't find a specific body of work, but I let it go.

Regarding the silence.. Here's a quote by Kafka on that:
Quote:
"Now the Sirens have a still more fatal weapon than their song, namely their silence... Someone might possibly have escaped from their singing; but from their silence, certainly never."

A red 'i' has joined the 's' and 'a'.

If you take away white space and punctuation the gaps between the coloured letters are 50 and 20. Multiples of ten? yes. Meaning? probably none.

Maybe these red letters are going to form a password we can use to desteg those pics.

another red letter! this time it's "i"

Maybe we should be keepign track of what order they are appearing in... or maybe they will be jumbled no matter what. At any rate, it's S A I so far.

Also, didn't someone say they heard/saw another audio layer under the beeps from the answering machine? Did anyone pursue that? I just found a friend who has soundforge, so I'm gonna try to do that later tonight.

Today's letter is "r".

By believing passionately in something that still does not

exist, we create it. The nonexistent is whatever we have not

sufficiently desired.

So,
s-a-i-r
in the order they have appeared.

add another A to that:

S-A-I-R-A

What exactly are we supposed to be doing with this? is this a password or something else?

My best guess, ATM is that it'll be the title of a new, unfound page on the site. We don't have anyplace to put a password, yet.
It may also be a term we can Google to find additional info that will open something else up.

All I see, so far, is that it's the word arias, backwards.

If it does come down to distribution, I'd expect to see at least two more letters to be added as there are 2 strings of lengths longer than 26 letters with no red letters.

If we accept the paragraph as formatted and count only from the front of the lines, the count distribution to letter conversions are:
As Formatted;
PZRYR
Without Spaces;
NWOUQ
Without Spaces or Punctuation;
NWNTQ

I can't find a grid-type distribution that aligns all of the red letters we have, consistently.

Sorry if I am being a pest here, but it seems to me like the letters might turn out to spell "Austria", where Mr. Franz Kafka was "born" (in quotes because that's who owned it).

Quote:
Franz Kafka, b. Prague, Bohemia (then belonging to Austria), July 3, 1883, d. June 3, 1924, has come to be one of the most influential writers of this century.

Just thought I'd throw that out there for you guys to chew on.

Good spot! All help is more than welcome.

We just got an "n" in the mix which might make it "Austrian", but doesn't lead to another page. I tried Austra(l)lian variants as well.

Any possible connection between Austria and Netherlands (or Holland or Dutch)?

EDIT: And keeping our ordered string going: S-A-I-R-A-N

Could you post it here?
I missed out on the whole http://mum.atspace.com/marcelvalentinlouiseugenegeorgesproust.html
find as it disappeared before I had a chance to visit it.

If I have the URL wrong, could someone tell me the correct one?

EDIT: My bad. I forgot about the message being in the earlier part of the trail. I had a copy in my cache.

IF it is going to be a new page and IF it requires additional letters and IF it's an english word, I think we need at least two more letters.

nairas and arians don't work.

Here's a list of words I tried by adding one more letter to the six:
    c - acrasin arnicas carinas
    d - radians
    f - farinas
    g - sangria
    j - jarinas
    m - marinas
    p - parians piranas
    t - antiars artisan tsarina
    u - anurias saurian uranias
    v - savarin

EDIT: We have another "s', giving S-A-I-R-A-N-S

Tried all the stuff done before and adding a letter, which were:
    c - acrasins
    g - sangrias
    t - artisans tsarinas
    u - saurians
    v - savarins

A perhaps pointless note: Relating to the Kafka quote you posted above, SAIRANS is phonetically very similar to Sirens.

sirens.html doesn't work though.
