I wasn't going to say anything, but...

Oh no, I'm crystal clear about the rules. I've read them a few times. I just beleive that a complete unwillingness to even bend the rules in certain circumstances is a bit rediculous. But I realize I will not change UF's policies, which is fine. You have your idea of an ARG and I have mine. That's what IU is for Very Happy

Jesus H. Christ on a pogo stick.

Back up. Reality check time.

Welcome to Unfiction/ARGN. Where the kindly folks in the administration do everything except make the bloody game for you. Analogy time: The PM is putting on a play. Spacebass, Jamesi & Co. essentially pay for the hall (UF), do the publicity (ARGN), and bring in the audience (the people who read and use these forums).

Oh yeah, they're also the ushers, the ticket-takers, and the security guards (paging mods, escort the troll out, please). And the janitors (paging admins, spam cleanup needed in row H).

In their theatre, if you, the PM and you, the players, want to use it, they have...what...two rules for PMs?

Let's remember, the UF administration is not going around saying "We will lock the thread of any game in which a PM posts as a character or a player anywhere." If the PM feels the need to pretend to be a player because they can't get the necessary information to the players, or evoke the necessary reaction from the players, they're free to do so on the rest of the Great Wide-Open Internet. They just can't do so here. (And if you visit my house, you'll have to take off your shoes before coming onto the living room carpet. Those are the rules. Deal with it.)

It's "rediculous" [sic] to be unwilling to bend the rules? And whose criteria should the admins use to decide when the rules should be bent? (For that matter, they do let people off the hook on a fairly regular basis, as evidenced by the fact that this game was allowed to continue here until it imploded due to PM negligence.) If they bend the rules for some people but not for others, people will complain that they're not being fair. If they bend the rules for everyone, there in effect are no rules.

Now you may think that's a good idea, but believe it or not, those rules are there for good reasons, reasons based in experience.

And a fair rule is one that is consistently enforced.

Now, perhaps this should be locked or moved to the META forum?

I would agree this can be locked now, I don't think there is anything else to be learnt. The remaining elements of the game are the codes and I guess that thread can stay open.

One final comment (OK final final) but if people didn't try and fail we would never learn anything, I could fire in quotes from famous inventors & sportsmen to back this up, but this thread is way too long anyway. The key thing is everyone learns from this.

Ah, my final word as well..

I'm not going to quote you Phaedra, because that would lead to more quoting and we'd all have a bad taste in our mouths. The quotes need to end somewhere! Laughing

Anyway, you and I both know that we have diffrences in opinons (and spellings Cool ) And we have diffrent perspectives on the matter, and yes, you make some good points. Am I convinced? Hell hasn't frozen yet. I will respect UF's rules, as long as UF respects my conflicts with these rules.

Now! Close this thing before I feel the urge to post again!

And just before this forums is locked, can I make a final plea for the solution to the code - something I worked on for a while and was probably blind not to see, but nevertheless gave me great enjoyment working on.
