Sounds like a nuke or simmilar. Scrubby plants indicate that the soil isnt good probably been irradiated for a while. incinerate the plants and seeds and irradiate the area and nothing will grow for a long while. ... This would seem to say that it wasnt a meteor. Meteors blast a huge area, but usually dont leave it unable to grow plants... A famous one in Siberia knocked down trees for several miles but didnt irradiate anything.

The one thing that i wonder about is the river leading to the sea. ... Does this mean they irradiated fish that have possibly survived and ended up in the oceans? ... Usually nukes vaporize water. So maybe not. But the area would affect any new fish introduced into water in this river at least for a long while.

I wonder how many Three Eyed (Simpson) Fish are wandering around in the oceans near Perplexcity.

Umm, Noozle, you might want to re-read Quirky Acuity for facts. Granier actually never mentions Viendenbourg, but it's been assumed that it is the place where he's staying. I think you got Viehattle and Viendenbourg mixed up. In any case, this is what he says about Anjsbourg:

Quote:
Received grave news today from the City. The peace with Viehattle is disintegrating. There have been incursions and breaches of treaty. Our spies indicate that Viehattle may even now be allying with Anjsbourg.

Seems to mean that they've been at war with Anjsbourg for a while and now Viehattle has gone to the enemy's side, not the other way round.

Oops, my mistake. Well, at least that makes more sense as to why its such a big desecrated area around Anjsbourg. Although not so much as to why they were at war. Although on that point, it was probably the same reason as all wars are for: power. Its just what aspect it was manifested through that is still unknown, e.g. was it for territory (more land = more power), resources, religious beliefs(if you win a war against people with opposing beliefs, then your beliefs become stronger and the side that won gets more power) or what?

It doesnt seem to have been for territory, as they havent taken and used the land left over. It could have been to stop anjsbourg from getting to many resources, but that is unlikely for the same reasons as territory. It could have been belief, as we have seen that religious belief is still very strong in PXC. For the scale of destruction, I dont see how it could really have been anything else (unless anjsbourg attacked PXC because they were abusing human rights or something, similar to a UN peacekeeping mission, and PXC managed to win. Kind of like what would have happened if saddam had won the gulf war because he had a nuke up his sleeve. It would have left the UN in tatters because they didn't have the strength to carry out their mission.)
