The PXC fans still exist but are scattered in the wilderness. I think that even if it was working the number of people processing units would currently be tiny. Other projects have also stalled (Tales from Earth 2, maybe Find Satoshi, PXCtrades). I think the time to resurrect things would be when (if) the final two waves of cards are released and there is the interest back again. Until then I think it's best biding our time, counting our cards and awaiting the signal.

I'm still a bit surprised about how fast the scattering of the fans and the stalling of the projects came about. I can't help thinking that a lot of that has to do with how PXC ended ... we weren't exactly let down easy.

I was never suprised about how fast the scattering of fans occured, because we had Season 2 dangled in front of our faces for SO long, and then suddenly.... gone. Me, I've actually lost all interests in ARGs now, I think my main reason behind being so involved and interested in perplex city was the community, I loved going to live events and doing online live events but I can't think of a single acheivement I made in the entire time I played perplex city game wise, I don't think I really solved any of puzzles (I solved some of the cards but mainly the easy ones). I never entered any of the competions, extreme puzzling for example.

But I stuck here until the end, becoming a mod to help out with the soon to be canceled Season 2, and will still be around if/when it is brought back to life, I still monitor uf (well, the perplex city sections) for life and hope that someday it will come back and the community that once thrived here can do so again.

Just a thought

I know this thread seems to be well and truly dead. But I've read over a hundred pages of forum conjecture on this card, and I've come across a possibility for the key that no-one has so-far mentioned.

People have discovered that www.distributed.net has just one 5-cow rated book in its recommended reading section - Cracking Des : Secrets of Encryption Research, Wiretap Politics & Chip Design. Clicking on the title on that page takes you to an Amazon.com page for the book. I know it's a long shot, but no-one has suggested it... the publisher of the book is O'Reilly. 8 characters, and it won't be solved by chimera's latest client, which doesn't use apostrophes. Just a thought.

so yeah, this thread has not had a post in over a month. I thought i'd take a look, and that distributed.net site does have 's. I've never seen the same cow from the card until today. I hope we can still crack this card......

It's not:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
O'Reilly

or
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Cracking DES

edit. nm. If this is the key, then the decoded text would be different. I just tried those words in the PXC solution page.

Try "Hercules". There was a set of movies in 1917 called "The Thirteenth Labor of Hercules.

WOAH!!!!!!! SUPER AWESOME!!!!!
Does anyone know more than this? Who paraboloid13 is, how they can be contacted, how the answer was arrived at, and, just perhaps, what the answer is?

Big cheers!!!

Unfortunately not, according to his profile on WLP it's the only card he has solved, so I did wonder if in fact it was the card's author.

I did ask for a small clue to the solution, but as yet, nothing has been forthcoming.

Again, I cannot log into that forum where the answer was posted.
Any change someone could please (spoiler tagged) post it in here?

Thanks.

I also cannot view the link, because I never became a member of that board. But I think what was being linked to is just a member profile, or the leaderboard, something that merely ticks a status that says the puzzle was solved by that member. It's not going to display the solution, at least not at the one link I've seen posted. Tell me i'm wrong...?

Catherwood is correct - the link is indeed to the solver's profile showing that they have actually solved the card. The forums over there have got a couple of requests for a clue (or even the solution), but so far to no avail

After re-reading paraboloid's post, I suspect that Sophiecat may well be correct here. It seems to imply that something has occurred or "timed-out" rather than a proper solve.

For those who cannot read it for themselves, the content of paraboloid13's one and only post on the We Love Puzzles forum is as follows:

"Time waits not for beast nor man...

The clock has finally stopped on this puzzle.

This is a tick rather than a tock for completion."

Paraboloid13 now has one further post which states "It was all a matter of time!" and nothing else.

So either the numbers on the card are time related or as Eugene's Lair also said, the card has simply ran out of time and the solution is just for completeness.

Perhaps we will see something similar happen with Billion to One.

And furthermore, we have learned that it is not a saying related to time, and (to quote the solver):

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

People forget that time is fluid and in my defence I gave this as much time as it gave me.
