I got the same error (stupidly) trying to run the new client with the old config file.. (what happens when you don't read directions..) if you're using a totally new install it shouldn't effect it though..

also, have we figured out what this means?

Application has generated an exception that could not be handled
Process id=0xfffd24c1 (-187199) Thread id=0xfff51e65 (-713115)

after which I had to close the program.. (it was working on unit 896158023) this is the second time it's happened (first time was mid unit as well)

There apears to have been an update somewhere as I've just noticed a 50 WU unit on my system, I'm just making sure that this is right and other people have been receiving them as well (it says x of 50 now not x of 30).

Yup, I've got this too.

I've been getting the "exception that could not be handled" thing as well, on both my computers. It's a pain when it happens, so any suggested solutions appreciated.

I've found this happens whenever my computer crashes in the middle of processing a WU.... what I did was just re-download the client and re-install the files except client.txt and units.txt (I think proc.txt is the one that gets f-ed up sometimes) and it worked for me.

I saw that somewhere earlier in this thread, and tried it, and it still didn't solve the problem Confused

Maybe I did something wrong Dunce so I'll give it another go. Hopefully it'll work! I get upset when I think my pc has been merrily chugging away overnight, only to discover the message of doom staring at me when I switch the screen on.

I have a feeling something has gone wrong somewhere along the way because if you look at the stats as of arround 11 am yesterday (28th may) there was a sudden decrease in the production rate, the number of clients dropped twice (guessing an inactive flush) which just seems VERY strange to me, maybe the switch to 50 wu units didn't go so well.

No, the switch to 50 MWUs went well.

Basically yesterday the load exceeded the size of the MWU I had set (which was 30). I tried briefly to raise it to 40 - but the congestion prevented that from taking. This manifested itself as clients not getting new WUs - the first client drop.

I sent out the 'Client Shutdown message' for 45 minutes last night to get the queue down, then installed 50 as the MWU size and removed the Client Shutdown. All has been well since. Of course as a lot of machines are unattended - it will take time for these to come back onstream.

The second (and much more major) drop was me expiring ALL clients prior to 1_2_0 (something I should have done a while ago really). This led to 706 inactive clients dropping off the perch.

Ahhhh, ok, I think it must have been off during the client shutdown because I never saw mine close, I did notice the 50 as you can see though Wink

I tend to check the stats a lot and when i see that sort of info on the stats it makes me think something has gone wrong. glad to hear its fine though Smile

Looks like it'll take a few days for us to get back to the production rate we were at.

Ah, I wondered why my client kept shutting down. That's neat that you can change stuff on the fly like this now.

I wouldn't bother if I were you. Imagine your total processing power as a cake. Chocolate fudge for preference. Now, running one client is like not slicing up the cake at all and that one greedy client eats the whole thing and gets a fat ass. Running more than one client means you subdivide that cake into equal slices for each client, but the total quantity of cake (your total processing power) is unchanged.

Since your total processing power is unchanged you still only get through WUs as quick. In fact, since there's going to be some overhead in running more than one client I'd expect things to actually run a little slower.

Of course, not knowing exactly how the client works and what system you're on, there's the possibility that running multiple clients could be a little more efficient because your system might have some wacky multi-threading doo-dah (in which case I'm not talking cake; I'm talking baloney), but I'm guessing not.

Oh, and congrats to everyone on breaking 10%!

Strange Just downloaded the new client 1.03 and it is going through a WU alot faster as before used to take about 5 minutes now it is going through them in about 3.

Perhaps that's true - I've not bothered to clock it - but that wasn't what I was saying Smile . I was just pointing out that there's not much point to running multiple clients on a single computer, not talking about how fast an individual client will now process a WU.

Its actually negative to run 2 clients on one computer (unless you have multiple CPUs/ Cores) because of having twice the over head with 2 processes.

EDIT: Repeated something said above, sorry Seej Embarassed

I noticed that the program rejects any decoded result if there is a byte higher than 0x7E present in it.
Are we sure that the correct solve does not have any higher bytes in it?
How do we know the result should be a plain ASCII text, and not a ZIP, GIF or something like that?

PS: as a C# developer I may be able to work with the source to make the program more stable (and perhaps even faster), PM me if you're interested.

By consensus we are expecting ASCII text output, as that is what the rccrypt program produces by default (this being the substance of Von's hint: rccrypt).

Below 0x7E includes ALL ASCII printables in the base set (plus a few non printables as well).
