as far as probabilities, the chances of a code being right is 1 out of the number of codes it may be, thus 1/(14700000-number of completed work units)
for % guesses id say 66.6%, cause this is a puzzle from hell

And can someone test 'hercules' or 'Hercules' im sure this has been don but havent seen it and it seams to fit too well

I tried on http://www.connected.ltd.uk/pxc/, and none of them were good, Capital, lowercase ect. Not even vaguly looking like a /

I tried KurtCows and got

The decoded file for key 'KURTCOWS' vaguely looks like a \'Kurtcows' is no good.

I'm just wondering, has anyone tried to burn the card, or put it in a UV light? Maybe that'll tell us the code

The decoded file for key 'perplex' vaguely looks like a Can't stat `/home/root/pxc/perplex.txt' (No such file or directory). Unless this is text, or some graphic or sound file with a very short header, it's probably a red herring, but I thoguht it worth mentioning so you can do your own research (or ask for someone on the boards to do so). Thanks.

I don't know what this is?? I'd guess we can try to research it??

Just to keep you up to date we are nearing 4 million work units Smile

A new LJ puzzle has been uploaded to keep you occupied while your computer works on those work units.

Wow, checking the stats page is truly awe-inspiring! Major kudos to chimera and anyone involved in the creation of the client; in the last two weeks, we've done about as many WUs as we did in the previous six! The optimized client RAWKS! Very Happy

Any forecasts on when we would be reaching the EOF?

About 10 days ago (I cant recall exactly) we calculated it to be about 98ish days to 100%

As things stand we are averaging 120,000 wus a day (although Chimera will be able to give out exacts) and if this continues we are now about 88 days away (if my math is correct)

I think Macmonkey and SteveC had a nice little probability discussion a few pages ago that will also indicate how the closer we get to 50% the effect and likelyhood of finding the key will work - although its all statistics to me and its as likely to be 43% as it is 99% - but meh - I find probability odd

[EDIT]

Also any chance anyone can throw these remaining cards into the pot?

#238 Reimann (come on these should be being thrown at me!)
#242 Ciphers of History
#245 Relativity
#246 Homage in Glass

Upgrade from old client to v1.3.1 doesn't work

Hi,

I've been away for 4 weeks and so having been catching up with the Assault on 13th Labour effort. My first move was to grab the latest client code - 1.3.1_patch - and unpack that into my directory and run it. I left the code running overnight and then realised the next morning that no progress had been made. The reason being that the 1.3.1_patch does not provide a new config.txt, thus my old config.txt had

http://203.121.194.74/ws13Labour/ws13Labour.asmx

after a little investigation I realised that it should be

http://203.121.194.74:9001/ws13Labour/ws13Labour.asmx

since the server now listens on port 9001.

I'm writing to explain this since I have not seen this mentioned in the forum and I believe that something ought to be done to explain that the patch upgrade doesn't work if you are coming from a pre-v1.3 client. It might save someone else from wasting their time figuring out the same information.

I can see that providing a client.txt in the patch zip wouldn't necessarily be welcome since folks will have set their own throttling value. However I think perhaps the website should mention it or a README.txt file in the patch zip.

Cheers,
Mark
