[UPDATE] The Path of Least Time 13/03/06

For a group of people on Earth who I've helped out many times, often putting myself in serious danger, you're singularly rude, one-sided and unwilling to trust me. The number of emails I've received doubting my sanity, directly insulting me, and not providing any evidence is just staggering.

Thankfully, there are some people out there who've seen fit to give me some serious information about what's going on, which, while far from convincing, is certainly food for thought. For example, I didn't know that Cymbalisty was actually addicted to Ceretin, and that he'd just run out. Some of the other suggestions, such as the Third Power being able to infiltrate any organisation, are distinctly unhelpful, since I already know that and if followed through, I might as well just give up.

Anna's suggested meeting up this evening to talk about it. I've just replied to say that I'll be there. I'm willing to be convinced, if she'll explain things to be me further. In the meantime, I've been thinking about how to map Earth numbers to the PXC communication system. The process is not very well-documented, but it should be fairly trivial to set up - providing that I'm convinced it's a good idea.

Incidentally, comments like this are rather ill-considered:

"Anna is smart and reasonable. Granted her hormones may occasionally have an influence, but do you really think she is the sort of person who would get so confused that she would think about breaking the law, risk friendships and generally push the boundaries so much?"

and

"Those who knew him best, Anna and Violet, consider suicide out of character for him. They are both rational, balanced people, not given to flights of fancy or letting their emotions sway their reasoning."

So what am I? Prone to flights of fancy? You should be careful what you say and who you believe. Just because Anna is suddenly your new best friend doesn't mean she'll be right all of the time. And be careful who you accuse - hunting down the Third Power is serious stuff, but it shouldn't turn into a witchhunt. I'm not about to start spying on Violet and Jason just because they're interested in the Granier diary - just like hundreds of other scholars in the city.

At least I wasn't the only one to tell tell it how it is to him Smile

I hope he eats his own dogfood on this one. I've apologised to him for the tone of my previous message, but I stand by the content. I also suggested that he do that which he is asking of us.

Incidentally, mine is not the only email quoted above Smile

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Seriously. Some of the stuff which has been mooted on these boards in the past week or so ("pimping" being a much overused phrase which leaps to mind, along with others) has just been...unbelievable. I shudder to think how *some* people actually function in real life, if they talk to their friends or colleagues in the tone which some people have taken with Kurt/Violet/Anna.

T.I.N.A.G. is not actually just a glib phrase which should be tacked onto the end of postings with a winking emoticon, in order to prove to the world how amusing and ironic you are. If you're sending communication to an ingame character, think about it before you type it, then put yourself in their shoes - try and work out how they will react to this information or request. Clearly the people at Mind Candy are assuming the roles of our ingame counterparts, and thinking/reacting as they naturally would when confronted with such aggressive demands. Carrot usually works better than stick, and frankly, Kurt's been pretty restrained.

[/OOG]

Thankfully, Kurt appears to have more manners than some of the Earth CRT, and has decided to ignore the abuse he's been sent, and meet with Anna to try and work through this...again, *Kurtlove*.

Please, in future, please...think...

Without posting the entire contents of my correspondence, I did engage with Kurt in the same manner as I do with my friends.

Yes I called him a baboon, but that was for dramatic effect. To 'get it into his thick head' if you will.

I did not post a long abusive tirade that called him every name under the sun, that contained nothing useful and served no reasonable purpose.

The contents of my message were roughly as follows:

<Insult for shock>
<Vent frustration>
<Explain reason for frustration>
<Plead for reason>
<Apologise for tone>

I have subsequently apologised, explained again the reason for my frustration using honest personal information, and generally encouraged him in his subsequent actions.

I carry much *kurtlove*, but his response to Anna was childish and hurtful. I expected better from him, and was disappointed.

I hope my generally restrained previous behaviour on these boards helps convince people that I'm not in the habit of viciously abusing people, and that I didn't on this occasion either.

I don't know how peoples strategies are meant to work in this game.

Starting with peoples' actions during the information hunt on the Hesh intranet to the lack of tact in e-mails to Kurt things seems to have got out of hand.

As I have said before Kurt can be a little hard headed, but insulting him even if there was an apology at the end is not how you treat a person, even in real life.

Though it is a game the people posting for Kurt, Anna, Violet and others have feelings which can be hurt.

Also talk of blackmail is not the greatest of ideas since we have put characters like Kurt through so much already.

Tact and discretion should be part of most players arsenal of abilities when it comes to this game. Of course this is only my opinion and depending of the reader's outlook can either be heeded or dismissed.

Sorry it was me that kept pimping Embarassed

I 100% agree that any communications should be sent fully in the spirit of TINAG, and that rattling off abusive emails won't often be condusive to gaining help.

As for carrots and sticks, you obviously aren't using a big enough stick...oooh errr matron!! Twisted Evil

Touche! Kurt has helped us out no end in the past, without him we wouldn't be where we are. This is not about playing people off against each other but working out how to best move the situation forward in our favour. Alienating the best puppet (oops there I go! I meant that in the best possible way, Mr Kurt!) we've had thus far is not moving things forward nor aiding our interests!

I fully agree with Juxta. I'm growing increasingly tiresome of reading all rhese "TINAG" and "TIAG" comments. It's simply bad etiquite, and it really ruins the mood for those of us who enjoy PxC from a completely TINAG perspective. TIAG comments should be saved for the Meta forum, as that's why its there.

On a completely unrelated note: I'm typing this on a sidekick/hiptop 2, so please excuse any errors.
