How do you view the forums?

Ok, so, if you look up at the top right of the UF page, you will see "Preferences."

Have you set yours or do you just go with the default? If you have set them, what are your settings?

Index packing: None - Medium - Full
Show topic titles on index: Yes - No
Sub-level links on index: No - Yes - With icons
Display viewonline info: Never - On root index only - Always

Me? I'm a Medium. No. No. On root only type of gal. How about you?

(yeah, this has clearly gotta be a contender for the stupidest new topic of the week.)

I haven't messed with mine at all, so I assume these are the defaults.

What I really want to change is the ability to get the "Topic Review" box back below the "Post a reply" box. It seems whenever I reply, I get the preview in my face... I scroll down using my mouse wheel and it scrolls down inside the preview box.. gaaaah.

Medium Yes With Icons Always.... And I totally said that in tune... Makes a very nice jingle.

Medium yes with icons always... medium yes with icons always...

I'm a Medium/No/With/Always gal

But from the topic, i thought you were gonna ask how i READ the forums. I only log in once per day, and thus can use the "View posts since last visit" option to display all the topics that are new to me. Then I go thru every PxC forum and use the "Mark all topics read" option to unflag them -- i've given up following that verbose game. Then I can refresh the list and head to the good stuff.

If i'm bored at work, I might use the "View posts from previous X hours" option, but without logging in. I'll scan the topics for any interesting active discussions, and join the chat room. It's times like these when I do appreciate that we can post as guests. If i had to log in to post from work, well, that would reset my "already read" flags, requiring me to actually read a day's worth of posts when I don't have the time.

Too much information?

Wow. Maybe not too much information...but i'm very impressed at how much you've thought this through! And...i'm even more impressed that you thought of logging out to read stuff. Embarassed I've been avoiding uF on days when i know i'll only have a minute or two to look around, because then all the unread posts stuff/new posts stuff dissapears. I'm not sure why i didn't think of this, but thanks! Very Happy

Oh, and everything is on default for me...

I read with default settings but:

1) start at News and Rumours to see if anything new has happened in the last day
2) Go to any games I might be following to see if anything new has happened in the last day
3) go to any timewasters / puzzle trails etc I was following the previous day to see if any spoilers have been posted for the level I was stuck at
4) Continue on my merry way to the Meta forum.

then sometimes: 5) Return to timewasters forum and refresh last page of annoying puzzle trail until someone posts the answer I need

Default settings as well. As miss_seph has her path she follows so do I. It has changed a bit over the years however... Back when I first joined I was able to start at the top and read my way through all the catagories and topics. *sigh* I miss those days.

Now, I hit the Admin and Meta sections first, followed by the General section ARGs with Potential, then News and Rumors. Right now I'm not giving any game the full attention I as I did before hurricanes and helping with Orbital Colony. Hopefully I can change that soon.
