Perhaps ironically, origamiproject.com cannot be viewed properly by a handheld device.

Well that would be because the site is in flash, but it is also ironic I guess that the UI is not coded in Ajax instead.

Uh, why do we think this is an ARG as opposed to a Flash advertising site?

Well I have to consider the source of the tip, and they and engadget seem to think it's headed that way. Besides the site itself hints to interactions "Do you know me?" Do you know how I can change your life?" and what is supposed to happen weeks 1,2, and 3?
Do you have any reason to think it's not going to be more than a flash ad?
Did we need these two posts when nothing could be known yet?
Just figured you guys would want the heads up on something that at least is from M$ and not just some lamer trying to ride on their coat tails.

I dunno, I watch the flash ad, and I don't see "Do you know me?" as suggesting there's an interactive story there: I see it as suggesting there's a new product coming out about which we know nothing so far. I mean, I think it was Charles Schwab that ran a series of commercials suggesting that we all "Talk to Chuck," but that didn't mean there was an ARG there. I suppose interaction with your broker is more real than interaction with your handheld device, but I'm still not convinced.
Plus, in reading the Engadget article, I don't see anything to suggest that it's moving in the direction of an ARG.

So today Microsoft officially flipped the switch on the buzz machine for their Origami Project -- an atypical viral marketing manuveur for a company whose products are usually known about years ahead of time.
All "viral marketing " really means is that it relies on word of mouth. Engadget is saying that the way Microsoft is trying to trigger buzz is a viral-like maneuver.
Sorry, I just don't see anything to get excited about here. But I've been wrong before.

Like the way Our Colony and that Hex360 thing (not ARGs) got people involved? Like the way origenxbox360 changed that rabbit picture for weeks 2, 3, and 4, and then never launched anything more than a countdown?
We're only sticking up for the definition of ARG. This doesn't mean you can't have fun with a countdown or a community involvement campaign. As the first post in this thread began, "Well Microsoft is at it again." With Microsoft, lately, that "it" has not been ARGs, but they certain engage an audience.

Heaven forbid we actually have an open debate about something here. My God, the ramifications of people actually voicing their opinions about what may or may not be an Alternate Reality Game. If word gets out that we are allowing people to speak freely -- hell, to speak critically -- then this forum is shot to all hell.
Seeing as how there continues to be no evidence for me to hang my "Oh, another ARG. How cute" hat on, I think your new thread descriptor is peachy keen. But don't be labeling this as a "useless debate" simply because people are not of the same opinion as each other on this. Frankly, I thought that the replies were rather verbose, and intelligent, and nice.

Is verbose meant to be a good thing?

And it seems that's what it is. Someone passed this URL along to me, where there are some screen shots from a promotional movie about the clunker.
