Indeed, it was a fun (but tiring) day of amusement and adventure in the big city. Well done to everyone who went to take part, or spectate. And a huge thanks to everyone involved in organising the whole thing, and creating the evil maze through the gallery!

One thing not mentioned above - the winning team (sorry, can't remember the name.........might have been Puzzle Monkeys, but apologies if I've got it wrong), who won with a seemingly huge score of 1200 points or something, got crystal cube trophies for their efforts.

The national gallery maze was VERY!!! hard (only 3 teams solved it).

Quick dump of mms, sms and digicam:

includes the questions we had, apologies for the atrocious quality of most of the photos.

Didn't stick around for the Morse message that went to the top 8 teams -- good luck guys Very Happy

edit: alice of wonderland has also posted a bit about it:

well it's almost 11, i'm back home...totally wiped out, my feet ache, my hands were frozen several times and i'm ready to sleep for a day, but (and it's a big but) I can honestly say I've had the best time today.

It was great meeting so many of you, putting faces to names, chatting about all thinks under the PXC sun, dancing the conga, running about with a banana and of course doing the hokey cokey in leicester square!

sorry i didnt get to stay longer in the pub......next time for sure! but i'm going to sleep tonight a very happy boy (with a new leitmark yay!)

i'm sure we'll be dissecting the events but not yet...give it a few days eh?

night all

Congratulations!! A lot of teams seemed to get stuck at the Robinson Crusoe question, which was a mosaic on the floor. The staff in the gallery didnt even know about it.

We were one of the few groups to make it to the final room, but ended up falling for the invisible lady under the guitarist thing that most people who got that far did.

Overall it was a wonderful day Smile Only thing i didn't like was the protest march, kinda put a dampener on my day seeing a monument disgraced like that. But besides that, great day.

It was just look we found Robin, someone was standing on him Smile Got a bit confused round about the petals, but by pure luck got the missing portrait. Yeah, information (the staff) was a bit lacking!

BTW: Did anyone own up to stealing the Goat did you know? (The year of the goat chinese flag thing that went missing).

I just got back from London.. v tired and stuff. Poozle, I'd have loved to have met you there...

what he said, plus what sotonrich said (Hokey Kokey in Leicester Sqaure such a laugh! and conga in Trafalgar a blast). Congrats on getting the National Gallery one... that bugged me so much. We made an educated guess (wrong), but still came second Very Happy

The morse code from the London eye. Still a bit shakey, as it was hard to tell what was being shone at us... several of us wrote down what we saw, some videoed it. We spent a lot of time trying to work it all out in the pub after but it got a bit mind-jangling. I think Reason will be posting what he got down tomorrow, and I'll post what I got down too. Not sure if the whole "meet at Tate at eleven" was just imaginative thinking on our part.

Everyone was so cool, in terms of teammanship and working together.

I reckon we got a couple of phrases from the morse, which may or may not be questionable:

"can you see"
"not safe"

i'm fairly sure about these; stuff about tate, meet, eleven... need to organise my notes before I can post on those.

Anyway, a fabby time of running around and being bonkers was had by all!

/edited to correct poozle's gender... sorry mate! : )

{was writing an email to a friend about event and thought this might interest people who didnt get to the event but wanted to know more about the stuff}

Basically, we got a sheet of stuff. There were questions like "how many yellow lanterns in chinatown?", "where is the home of chav?" "what do you lose if you order a kwak in je sung bar?" and you had to go to these places and find out. You lose a shoe by the way. That was the best question! They give you a special glass to drink it, but it requires your shoe as a deposit.

Anyway, then there were other things like "leicster square, every 20 minutes, sing as a choir in the center" or "trocadero, play against other teams at daytona racing, every 10 minutes"

There were photo questions, like "take a photo of 6 people in a phone box", "spell out a word in a human chain and send a photo" "take a photo on the lions on nelsons column" "take a photo at every tube station" etc..

Then there was a 500 point special thing in the london gallery called gallery trail. It was a really cryptic message like "turn east and follow the eyes, find the babys tiara and face it.. follow the leaves on the floor".. Basically it was a big long scavenger trail through the art museum, but it was actually really cool, and you had to look so closely to solve the clues. Only 3 teams completed it, we got all the way to the end but gave the wrong answer Sad

Every so often you'd get a text message asking you a question about perplex city, and you had to reply with the right answer to get points. One of them was in morse code! lol.

Finally, you'd get texts saying "NEW CHALLENGE! Race beginning at nelsons column at 2.15" or "NEW CHALLENGE! Do the hokey kokey in Trafalgar square at 3.00" which were really fun, and you only got the texts a little way before.

Oh and in base camp they had backward spelling contests and biscuit stacking contests. All a lot of fun. You got points for everything, but there was way too much to fit it all in and it was hard knowing what to do and where to go. The gallery was big points, but very very hard, so it probably wasnt worth spending all the time there we did. But we finished somewhere in the middle, and everyone enjoyed themselves.

At the end they presented the winners with shiny cubes and gave the top 8 teams a trip on the london eye But we all got, you know the leitmark thing? we got a special PCAG one and every team got a perplex city bag.

Yes it's all very exciting. Tally's done wuite well with what she got when we were in the pod (we came second :p). I really hope someone can piece everything together from the morse code the 3 or so groups got.

Btw this is my first post here- hurrah! The event gave me an excuse to get posting lol!

It all sounds so much fun, I really look forward to when I get a chance to participate in these live events we keep getting.

Also, seems like poozle's post is stuck at the bottom of this thread despite it being the first chronologically - coding error or something?

Currently, I can barely see, let alone type! A great day was had by all, however. I volunteered as a crew member along with other familiar UF types and hung out in Piccadilly Circus with jojojo and Bert, occasionally aiding the odd confused team in their maelstrom of confusion. I'll post more about the event as a whole tomorrow, but in the meantime one thing:

If you're posting photos to Flickr, please tag your pictures "perplexcity" AND "pcaglondon", because that will make it loads easier to find all our photos. Also, I'm sure MC would appreciate any photos you could send their way. Well played one and all, and congratulations to the team that organised the day!

Wow, what a day. I have only just got home and I am absolutely worn out now. It's intriging about the morse code message - was it worked out before 11, and did anyone try going to the tate? Maybe when someone has more time to go through the video footage they will find something new.

All in all a fun day. It seems you can view the leaderboard for the event here: http://events.perplexcity.com/leaderboard.html.

I'm not sure if we are supposed to know this website, but I read the URL when Adrian switched between his web browser and Google Earth.
