Just a random thought

What if:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
If Entropy Wins part of the phrase would be the one to decode the EDMOF XRUTH FHURG IFULP part

Then
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Outward Looks... etc, would decode the Rest

Got a few ideas im running through at the moment from when i first started on this ages ago (Only got a few pages left in my notebook now Confused )

Had a vision last night that shuffled will be solved in the next few weeks Laughing Pitty the vision did not show the answer

Oh yes, I've cracked (it).

'Sally, idiot' does fit but who the hell is Sally?

In fact 'Sally idiot' is almost an anagram of.....

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Solitaire

Perhaps a little tweak here or there......

Would'nt it be a laugh if the message was something like

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
'It was written and created by Bruce Schneier using the solitaire cipher'

Mmmm, that rather depends on your definition of laugh... Rolling Eyes

okay, I've been playing with anagrams all night, and my head hurts. I've just had a thought. If the key is an anagram of "If entropy wins..." maybe Von's clue is a bit more helpful than it sounds.
Maybe part of the anagram is literally
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
All you need

Anyway, need to sleep now. Just for fun, here's one of the more annoying, yet useless ones I came up with.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
To solve a code you should find your will to answer. PK

A few more anagrams for inspiration:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
You all need food (slop) until you discover what works.

Or maybe something a bit more proverbial:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Discover what works 'til all you need floods upon you.

Or, to put it more bluntly:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
You need to discover what works, you plain dull fools!

Does anyone know anything about the strip going through the card on the left hand side? It's not on the only other silver card I have and I couldn't see anything on the wiki about it.

I don't see it in mine. Could it be a seam in the silver foil? People have seen on various silver cards what appear to be "seams" in the foil--like maybe the printers ran out of a spool of foil and continued on with a new roll, leaving a little bit of a gap or overlap. Might this be what you see?

I'd say it's 99% that it's either this or some other artifact of the manufacturing process - I'm lucky enough to have 2 copies of Shuffled and this line is on one and not the other. I've seen this on other silvers too, I got quite excited when I saw it on 2 copies of 234 and started going through all my silvers looking for some kind of pattern. In a couple of other cases where I had spares, it would appear on one and not the other. I don't think there's any significance to it.

Back to Shuffled.... Is the javascript decrypter broken for anyone else - every time I try to key the deck, nothing happens. Just me? If not is there another online solver I could use? I've tried a few of the links on Bruce Schneier's site but I can't make any of them work for me (user error, without any doubt!).

Despite repeated reading of various explanations I can't fully get my head around the Solitaire cipher or I'd resort to trying out my ideas manually!

You probably made the same mistake I made the other night and used lower case letters in the key.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for your email! The answer is, I'm afraid, no.

Don't worry though, you're in the good company of all 40,000 other players.

Best regards,

Nice try Brokasaphasia, pity they weren't more helpful.
I'm still trying to find anagrams, and I came up with this
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
To solve this all you would need is word four on pack, Y

Found lots of others, but none that really seem feasible.
My logic is that whoever passed the message on would be following the "rules" of Solitaire, and wouldn't write the message and code down together. The only other info Garnet was given was the spoken message, which I know points to
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the disappearing text

but might also have another purpose. Still, Perplexians live by their own rules.

Guin asked this way back on page 27, has anybody tried recently? I would incur the charge, but the hint line isn't available here in the US.

How much work has been done on using the non-fading code as the basis for creating the deck?

The wiki states "54 Letter pairs allows for one letter pair for each of the 54 playing cards. The problem arises in that there is no logical pairing of the characters that creates 54 unique pairs." but doesn't go into why there is no logic to it.

The most simple solution is each letter represents a value and the sum results in the card is obviously false because of the duplicate values (WY,YW) but if they represented digits then this could work(WY,YW,12,21).

Of course that's just base10, with 25 digits it could be using base25 or something different. I'm sure someone has gone over all this before but short of reading all 80+ pages since I first posted I have to stick to the wiki.
