I still think that asking more generally about Claire's crime and the ramifications for those surrounding it would be sensible

I agree, direct questions might seem a little too suspect? Asking direct probing questions about specifics or the 'nasty' part of the theft (baring in mind Claire doesn't know that Scarlett knows that *the crime* was the cube theft!) would probably make Claire suspicious of Scarlett's motives and the whole thing might back fire.

General questions, worded correctly to lead to where we want them to lead is the way forward IMO.

Now. When was the exact date Claire left PxC? it Only says mid-267 on the wiki. My thinking is, we learnt about Holyoke's murder in April. The case was closed at the start of August. Where was Claire during all this? I'm not saying she murdered him, it would just be intersting to know where she was and what she was doing. Given that the Sentinel has just mentioned him again, I'm wondering if that is the question that we need to ask. I've said it before on Anna's thread I firmly believe we are being given a sharp poke in that direction.

According to Scarlett in her stories http://thescarlettkite.com/archives/2006/03/a_favour_for_yo.html

Quote:
Claire knows she can't stop what's happening at Viendenbourg by herself. But there's an old family legend - that the full story of what happened during the war has never been told - that something was lost, something very valuable, something precious. That part of the secret lies buried under the ruins of Anjsbourg. It might take years but she is going to stay here to try to find it and, for now, Allain is staying too

So we need to get Scarlett to ask her - I am sending an email to tell her, now Smile

Here's the email I sent...

Quote:
You said you couldn't ask Claire directly about what she was doing but you could. You said that Claire hadn't done anything to appear violent and I am willing to believe you and if you believe it to then you have the right to go ahead and ask. As you said, it would be easy to cripple your car and your key and there may not be a bus home but then you would have to walk. A brisk walk is a good thing and as you say, you are planning to stay for a few more days anyway Smile

The only thing I can suggest is you literally come straight out and ask her the questions and hope she doesn't become suspicious - if she does then that is her problem. After all, it's HER that says she wants to get to the bottom of it all. She can't very well complain about not finding the answers if she isn't willing to help those who try to help her.

If she is still afraid that V would use us to get to her, then remind her that you have already found her and that it's too late to complain about it now Very Happy

If she tells us what she knows of the family legend, we will do our very best to make sure that EVERYBODY knows about it! That way we can all search for the something precious. The more people that search, the faster we shall find it!

Good luck with your story

Rebecca (Dysper) and everyone at unfiction who has followed your quest.

Sorry, what are you asking her? I couldn't tell what you meant to be your question.
EDIT: Cheers for posting that up. Was unsure what you meant. I like that, it might work.
I would still like to know about Fran Mendling though, but that is mostly just to satisfy my need for information. Would love to know if her death was planned, or if V just got carried away. As in, did Claire know the job would consist of killing someone?

Dysper isn't asking a specific question. She's merely giving Scarlett some advice.

I had a go at writing a sympathetic preamble and a couple of questions that might get Claire to open up to Scarlett. It's probably a bit lengthy (but then there's nothing like a good long preamble Smile - sorry) so feel free to cut, edit, shoot down in flames as you please. I'm not saying Scarlett should read it like a script but it might give her some suggestions for opening up the subject matter with Claire. So something along the lines of:

"It must've been really hard for you being on your own and away from your family all this time. I can understand a little - when I came out here to help Allain I didn't want my family to worry so I told them I was working in an animal sanctuary. I haven't been able to speak to them properly for months; I'm even starting to miss my know-it-all sister a little now (sorry Violet Very Happy ). But I guess I'll be able to see them soon when I go back to the city.
You know I met your father in the military archives when I was researching Reynolds ionizers (might as well get a mention in). If you'd like I could try to pass on a message to him to let him know that you and Allain are ok. But not if you think that's too risky - I wouldn't want to do anything that could endanger you or Allain.
INSERT QUESTION HERE.
eg. From what you've said the whole situation with this 'V' character seems really intense and scary. What actually happened that went so wrong, if you don't mind me asking? I can't imagine what could be so bad that someone would murder for it.
or: He sounds like a really dangerous man - how did you get caught up with him in the first place?
or: Should I be worried about returning to the city - it's frightening to think that such an evil person's on the loose out there when I have no way of knowing who he is - are there any people or places you think it best for me to stay away from?
or: Having helped Allain to find you I feel like a part of all this now and I'd really like to help you in your search for answers. Could you tell me more about your family legends/ your work at Viendenbourg, etc?

I'm not saying these have to be the actual questions - I'm just suggesting some safeish wording for questions already mooted (we're starting to run out of time on this one).

I think this sounds good. I would add to the end: "If there is anything that I can do to help with your family's safety, please let me know."

I vote for this as one of our questions. Or it could be worded as: "What did V want you to do and why has he killed these 2 others?"

Quote:

I vote for somthing like this to be our other question. Could also be worded like "I am intrigued by your family legends. Will you tell me more?"

I also think we should include a sentence or two of justification for each question for Scarlett's benefit.

We need to get this decided and emailed by end of Thursday. I think that echidna has done a good job of it - maybe the one to send the letter to Scarlett? I will offer as well, if needed.

I think that the first bit is very good, I think that by relating her situation to Scarlett's will make sure that Claire is put at ease and feel she can trust Scarlett.

This is good also as its trying to show Claire that Scarlett is someone she can trust.

I think this is our best bet, we're not prying too much. Were in effect offering Claire a choice of two areas that she could talk about, both of which we want to know more on. And through her answering about the family legend or work at Viendenbourg, its quite likely that she will go on to give info about the other. I personally would think that she'd be more likely to progress onto her work at Viendenbourg if we asked about the family legend i.e. talks about the legend and goes onto say how her work is trying to prove that.

We need to make a decision fairly soon though.

M

P.S. Sorry if my quoting isn't quite correct...first time of doing it!

either one would lead to the other, definatly with prompts from Scarlett

I think Claire starting off on family legends would give more details as with the other she would only give details of the legends she feels are relevent to the work and would probably concise it down to stay on track. With the legends as the primary topic, she'd give more details and as all her work is directly related to the legends we'd get that too.

What

Dysper - do you mean to say that you have already emailed Scarlett with the questions? We are only allowed to send her one email from the collective so if you've already sent her questions then the rest of this discussion is for naught. It's not that she will only work with one email, it's that, with her lack of access, she can only receive one. If you emailed her, then you've decided the fate of this enterprise yourself, unless I'm missing something.

But remember that my key access is very limited - if you send dozens of emails I won't be able to get them all in time. It seems like many of you talk to each other, so if you could perhaps discuss it and then send me one email before next Friday, that would be best.

I think she just doesn't want loads of emails from individuals, not that she can only receive one - just that if there are lots and lots she probably won't get them all. That is why we need to carry on discussing exactly what should be asked. I don't think Dysper has decided the fate of this just by the one email, but for once can we all be careful about emailing Scarlett unless it is the final set of questions?

hmm

maybe I'm a literalist but when Scarlett says "send me one email" I rather suppose she means "one email." It doesn't say "one email each" but that we should discuss it as a group and then send one email. Remember how people decided not to heed Kurt and Anna's directions surrounding the police distraction? They're still choked with us and not talking to each other either. I hope you're right but I fear you aren't. Nothing to do about it now than continue on and pray for the best.

This was mentioned before, in relation to other emails to Perplexians - not everyone reads Unfiction, therefore they can't seriously expect only one email.

Some people are doing this thing on their own, and so there's a chance that they'll email as well. However, those people that do discuss things (in other words people on various forums) are expected to come up with a collaborative effort.

I guess what I'm trying to say (in a roundabout sort of way) is: don't get too hung up on the fact that someone has sent an email. Let's just do as we've been asked, discuss it, and don't all send emails to the poor thing!

Well, I say lets come up with our email and send it ASAP in case Scarlett says something like she could only get her first 4 emails, or something, and we end up being 6th. We want to make sure our collective answer is in her box on top of the pile. I think we've been nearing somewhat of a consensus with some of the most recent discussion.
