[FA] Post Game Writeup

A writeup I did per request. Out of curiosity, I thought I'd share and encourage you to do the same. I'd like to see if we hold similar opinions:

The premise of Find Araya was just as the name implied. Araya Benedict was missing. An anonymous note led detective James Pearson to the case. The note described a young girl missing for over a month and pled for help finding her.

After searching diligently for any links to who Araya was, the team was led to Ditch Media. The company appeared to be a group specializing in the creation of alternate realities in order to secure a better future for a subject the company deemed needy. The alternate reality would not be revealed to the "subject" but instead completely take them by surprise and change their life forever.

As soon as the story gained this engrossing depth, it took a disappointing turn. The story failed to follow an arc. There was no discerning climax or resolution.

As well as a depressive story progression, the characters did not come to adequate fruition. Initially, the characters met were well rounded and enigmatic. It was disheartening when the creators failed to fulfill their development.

Find Araya started as an intriguing and well made ARG. The team drawn to this adventure was dedicated, creative, and talented. It was surprising then when the slowly developing characters and storyline abruptly came to a halt. The team seemed to be making wonderful progress and the mystery was escalating. Suddenly a video was found leading the investigators to believe James Pearson found Araya, murdered her, and then went on the lam. The video was filled with typical clues to it's lack of authenticity, thus seeming to continue the story. However, no new updates have arisen, and the consensus is the game is over.

Many questions were left unanswered. Many clues were left unsolved. It would appear the PM/PMs ran out of steam and wrapped up the ARG quickly and with little enthusiasm. Perhaps it is merely a precursor another game, possibly entitled "Find James." Whatever the case, it was a wonderful game in the beginning but failed to follow through with a satisfying storyline, character development, and conclusion.

You know... there's something that s been bothered since I was updated on the endgame (I has been away dealign wiht personal issues), but does anyoen almost get the feeling that this ARG was.. condemning ARGs? The message is certainly not the best as - as far as we know - Ditch Media created an "ARG" in true TINAG spirit for James - which upsets him so much that he accedentally kills Araya. If I remmeber, he talked about how you "can't do this to people'.

There was talk that this was part of some sort of school project. A thesis or some such. It wouild be interestign to see WHAT the direction the report is taking if this was true.

I think you hit the nail on the head Mountain Girl. Unfortunately, the trailing off of the game started long before James went missing. The game was great when I first signed on. There were constant clues and new puzzles to solve at every turn.

Unfortunately, when we became stuck or when we had solved the puzzles, there was always a slow turn around and therefore no reason to actually solve the puzzles. Most of them just lead us to no conclusions. The idea behind this game was great but the follow-through lacked.

When mata went on his excursion with James and Robert, I thought for sure that this game was going to continue and be more interesting until the end. What we found was that the end was just that: the end. There was no resolution and no closure. We have no idea what happened which was frustrating because of the time and effort we put into this game.

If this was indeed a school project, consider it a "D." You passed PMs, but barely. Next time, please wrap-up the story instead of leaving us hanging. Sorry for the long post. I needed to get that off my chest.

Well, at least the PMs helds it together right up until the end and maintained TINAG (AFAIK anyway - 'Nick Christensen' wasn't a PM was he?). They can be credited for that at the very least, it must be one of the hardest aspects of running a game.

I've got to say i disagree it ended abruptly, yes a deeper level of interaction and more to do along the way would have been good, but to say it ended abruptly and didn't follow an arc seems to be off point from my perspective, yes it wasn't the scooby doo ending where everything is wrapped up in a little package, but if it had been i would have been disappointed in the PM's.

Sorry to disagree but i know at least one other player feels like me on this and i just had to post to this thread after seeing there was no comment option on the ARGN site.

I just wanted to drop my opinion about Finding Araya. I thought it was a good game. Nothing is perfect, and as such, neither was this game. However, I found it very enjoyable and disappointing at times... just the way like real life is. I have not played too many games, but this ranks up there with the "better" ones. I enjoyed the interaction with the characters and case members. The pace was slow and quick at times, but then again, that is the pace of life sometimes. I think the ending flew in the face of conventional wisdom, which is kinda cool if you ask me. I just wanna add, I hope to see more games like this soon.
