So yes, Albatross, the Code talkers are from that area.

Hachita is south of Alberqurque, south of the Indian (Native American) Reservations and near the Mexico border. They probably also speak a good smattering of spanish too.

Surfing all day can be quite exhausting. I would call that work.

Sozan info

Here is some info that I was able to find out about Sozan and the specific quote of his about the cat.

Sozan was a priest at the Kensho-ji temple, Kumamoto, Bingo provence.
http://meditationproject.com/Sozan.htm

the quote about the "The Most Valuable Thing in the World" is from a collection of parables known as the Zen Koans
http://www.ashidakim.com/zenkoans/zenindex.html
You'll find it listed as #70 on that page.

There is an interesting link on that last url that describes how the Zen Koans pertain to Ninjitsu...the last line of which is:
"Learn not only to 'read between the lines' but also 'within the words' of each of these examples. There is always more than meets the eye."here is the link to that http://www.ashidakim.com/zenkoans/notefromkim.html

responses from Studio Cypher

I recently emailed Kevin again. My various emails and replies are as listed below:

Hey, Albatraoss.

This email address is used by our Wakeful Agents and Agents to send
information to the Cyphers as a whole. That means it can be read by any
of the Cyphers but I'm generally the one who keeps up with it.

Hey, sorry for the delay in responding. I've been busy prepping for some
field work. That also means I'll be incommunicado for a while. This
email address'll be checked by Will, one of the guys we hired for our
front. Don't confuse him, he doesn't know anything about us besides what
little we've told him.

On to your questions!

Shunyata is the old guard of the Cyphers as near as I can tell.

You know how every group has the archenemy that they speak of in hushed
voices around the water cooler? The CIA talks about Bin Laden, the MIB
talk about Aurelians, Microsofties talk about Apple. Here, they mention
the Erasers.

Our training should help all of you cats get up to speed on the codes and
basic strategies that we use. It'll also give you a little history, since
you can't help with what you don't know.

I don't know about any ranks per se. There are basically three loosely
connected groups here, though. The core group (that's us!) does most of
the field work and connects everyone else. The Wakeful Agents are privy
to many of the secrets of the Cyphers and often work alongside us.
Regular Agents are independent contractors who do work with us, often
without knowing who we are.

Anyhoo....so now there is another contact named Will that will be taking over for Kevin as he goes "undercover"......okay....? And also, did anyone notice the "cat" refrence again? Is this just him stuck a few years in the past or is this some type of thing we should be watchful of? Anyhoo......good work everyone! Cant wait to start this beast!!

Make Good Choices!! Shocked

If it turns out that GM has developed a new kitty litter, I am really going to be unhappy.

Best Kitty Litter ever, made from recycled corn husks, silk and cobs.

ALthough wouldn't the corn husks be better used to make Tamales rather than kitty litter?

We could open up the best Tamales and Kitty litter stand in Hachita!

Which confirms Kevin is in the US Eastern Time zone as it would be midnight (3 hours ahead of me) there.

Well, that... Or he is in New Mexico and his clock is off. Wink

hmm....no reply

Maybe because he belongs to this secret group, he doesn't interact that much outside...and uses the terminology he remembers

or maybe he's just one hip cat being crazy cool in this coffe cup of life...life...life.........life

Got a reply myself...

My email:
Quote:
Good day [or night, as it may be] to you!

I must say, I was very intrigued with this Cypher business. I'm already trying to figure out what exactly is going on, and must say, I'm at a bit of an impasse...

At first, this strikes me as some fun and games regarding cryptography and what not, but it appears that there's something more under the surface, as it were.

I hope this doesn't raise flags [either on your end or mine], but I am curious as to your connections with the Philly Project. There is much controversy regarding the whole thing, starting out with whether or not it actually happened. Am I to assume that it did? And you are in possesion of proof? If this is the case, I simply must know more. Now, I realize that you don't know me from Adam, and I've yet to start my training, but can you steer me in the right direction? "Protectors of the Wierd" and the whatnot is a very alluring title.

I also hope that e-mailing you here isn't an impropriety. I've a knack for digging up information where it isn't shared... hopefully, this is a valuable asset for people of your calling.

Best Regards,
Glitch Tybalt
[p.s. this is what the alphabet would look like if q and r were missing.]
[p.p.s. Mary Queen of Scots! I've not seen that cypher in some time!]

His response:
Quote:
Welcome, Glitch!

Your inquisitive mind is just the sort of thing I set out to find with
this recruitment drive.

Codes and ciphers will abound, I'm sure (would you expect anything
different with our name?), but not for their own sake.

As for the Philadelphia Experiment, I'll just refer to the Purloined
Letter. If they had Cyphers back then, I'm sure Poe was one of them.

-- K

First off, Yes, I know, I sound *WAY* too eager in the e-mail, but it was written at 4:30 in the morning.

Now, Poe? The Purloined Letter? My God, the thick plottens!

And can I just say right now that I'm *really* excited about this game?

I'm pretty sure Kevin is referring to Edgar Allen Poe there, he wrote a story called the Purloined Letter.
Link: http://xroads.virginia.edu/~HYPER/POE/purloine.html

Also it might be noteworthy to mention that Poe was a talented cryptanalyst/cryptographer and offered his readers to send him any coded message and he would break the cypher. Most of the cyphers were simple but it earned him a reputation Very Happy

And if you already knew then... sorry... ><'

Ok, our guy is named Kevin, and he uses the word "cats" when he's talking about somebody. I do the same thing... it's been pushed into my brain by my idol: Kevin Smith. Coincidence? I THINK NOT!

There's my two cents.

I say "cat" (and "kitten" too, that's for the ladies), but I only started it to see how many other people I could get to do it.

(so far, no one's picked it up)

Ok, does anyone else think that with this statement

"Codes and ciphers will abound, I'm sure (would you expect anything
different with our name?), but not for their own sake."

He is trying to tell us that the 4 sets of code on the www.studiocypher.com/cypher page means something?

I am referring to the mary queen of scots and windings stuff! will have a look at the translations later when I get the time!
