Well if you're away for two weeks then surely the best thing to do would be to post a seperate thread and let everyone know how unfair everything this is and that Mind Candy should operate in order to make every single person on the planet happy.

Maybe Mind Candy should employ about a 100,000 people (I understand the Polish are quite cheap and reliable), syncronise their watches and hand every packet to people who have placed orders with them at exactly the same time to ensure fairness.

If it's really that annoying then maybe that's a good idea. We could even think up some ideas of a hobby for you to take up.

1) A Martial Art of some sort
2) Stamp collecting
3) Hill walking or climbing

What do you think? It could get you out the house.

Seriously, would you be jumping on him like that if he was anyone but Ollie Keers?

---- happens. The live event is in San Fransisco. The cube is probably in Switzerland guarded by ------ BEAR TRAPS. Firebox send out cards a bit early. OMGZ0RZ, the WORLD is going to END.

I seriously doubt that anyone is going to find the cube before everyone else gets their cards. Just be thankful that it's not as much of a cock-up as last time and you won't be waiting a whole month for your pure packs.

Stay happy, sweetcheeks.

Holy moly! Who started this thread anyway? And then brought it up again? It all seems a bit hypocritical to me! Rolling Eyes

It's bad enough the US has to wait for the cards, but I got over it when some people were posting scans so we could, at least, work on the puzzles... just like we've done the the last 3 waves. If the world *isn't* going to stop, then why so hush hush about the scans?

Even those in the UK who didn't order from Firebox, and will be going out to buy their cards Monday morning, will have a 5 hr advantage on the rest of us. I know, no big deal (poor Aussies!), but now you have a whole 2 day advantage, and you won't even show them to us? Forget 'first solves'! I just want to work on the freakin' puzzles! Geez! I feel like it's Christmas, and I'm locked outside in the snow (barefoot, even!), and watching ya'll through the window!
Color me *frustrated*!
I'm going to bed...

EDIT - removed quoted inappropriate language. - SG

Imagine if the world ends in those two days. You'll feel like a right idiot!

Maybe for the next season, MC could consider virtual cards: a high-res scan + individual code in the body of the e-mail to be sent simultaneously worldwide to those who've ordered, with the physical card to follow. This wouldn't work for all cards (eg Cold Fission), but might be a way to solve the cruel, fickle problems of globalisation.

On with the puzzles. Please.

to be honest, i don't actually think its all that unfair if firebox post their cards out early. i just think that in such a case, its not such a bad thing to share information and scan the cards in. pragmatically it suits everyone - people who dont want to see don't have to look, and people who do want to see *can*. the unfairness comes in people hoarding their cards and not scanning them in, because, frankly, thats never been the way we have played it on this forum, leaderboard or not.

rach =)

Gotta say, as someone who started playing during wave two, I looked back at the posts on here from the time you were all waiting for the website to be switched on so you could try out solves on the first cards, and I thought, 'that looks like it was a good time to be here'. People swapping ideas and suchlike. I didn't order through Firebox (they were sold out) so I'm waiting for mine to come from another retailer tomorrow (hopefully - I'll be narked if they don't as I've taken the day off work). But I think it's great that there's discussions going on early and I almost wish there was a week or two between the cards arriving and the solve pages being unlocked, so there could be more discussion.

That's my take on it, anyway.

I agree with Rand0m. Much as I have some cards (a few blacks and no silvers of course) and am ready to go at 6pm tomorrow, I'd be quite happy to wait another week between cards being issued and solves being allowed to let everyone have a fair crack at it. This is the first wave where I have had cards before the launch date (thankyou to the superefficient firebox) so have had a glorious weekend solving cards myself (well, me and google and some splendid friends from UF with their hints) knowing that there are no blatant answers out there that are an easy spoiler away.
The other tricky thing is the launch party - agonisingly 1.5hrs after the solves open. Bit of a dilemma if you live in the traffic hell that is London - can't be both solving and travelling on the tube at the same time. Sad My humble recommendations to MC for Season 2 are therefore:

1. Issue cards well in advance of the official solve opening so everyone has a chance to see some before the start.
2. Make the launch event a different day/time to the solve opening so there's no conflict there. Clearly at least a day in advance would be better. Sure there are supposed to be internet access at the launch but this event should be for gassing (and boozing) not staring at screens like the geeky people that everyone has us labelled?

Maybe the next launch event will be in the US so then it'll be your problem about whether to go or not?

the man speaks sense... not wanting in any way whatsoever to make it sound like 'oh i've been here longer than you so i win' (no doubt that certain people will take things how they want though) but i've been playing since we only had the six 333 prototype cards to go off, when card information *was* scarce and people *had* to work together - and it was a hell of a lot more fun than it is now. i was in the opposite position then, i had cards that other people didn't have access to, and i shared intel as much as it was needed - i'd have hoped that people would return the favour. if no one posted the cards up, not only would a *lot* of people not be able to join in in a big part of the game, but a lot of cards would go unsolved for much much longer - cards such as 13th labour would be impossible - chimera, who built the client didn't even have the card in his posession until way after he started helping.

i don't know where this new attitude came from (well i have my suspicions) but i think i can safely say it's really not welcome.

rach =)

I don't know why all the selfishness with the sharing of the scans! I wasn't asking for a free card, or a code, or a solution to a puzzle. I just wanted to *see* your cards so I could have fun solving them myself. It was bad enough to learn of people receiving their packs on Friday, opening them in chat, and gloating about them... only to *not* post the scans, and then intimidate others into taking down the scans they had already posted (you know who you are)! *That* is what I was complaining about! But, somehow it got turned around (to take the focus off the *real* issue?), and added insult to injury by ridiculing me!

This behavior was *very* unattractive! And if it continues, I will *not* be back for season 2! I've had a lot of fun with this ARG, thus far (my 1 yr anniversary is this week)... And, although I haven't been here as long as a lot of you, this weekend's behavior of *some* of you 'veterans', was bad enough to scare newcomers into not wanting to participate. I just hope this can be rectified, we can get back to having *fun*, and demonstrate that this is *not* how we normally play this game! The only 'magic' I saw this weekend, was posts and scans *disappearing* from the forum! Up until now, this forum was all about the *sharing*!

Firebox sent some packs out early... Great for some of you! But, unless they included a note saying *not* to open until the 31st, I'm sure they expected you to *share* your good fortune! That doesn't mean to just dangle the 'carrot' in front of our noses! I didn't see any posts from MC to that effect, either. This seemed to be decided by a minority of you. I can only hope this doesn't happen again, in the future!

I just want to thank all those people who *have* been posting their scans this weekend! It was much appreciated! I've been having fun trying to solve, and contributing to the discussions of, some of the cards. *That* is why I'm here. *Puzzles* are what brought me to this forum, in the first place. The camaraderie of most of the people here, is what made me stay. Can we please remember how it used to be?

With that said, on with the Wave 4 festivities! Wink

I completely agree with you (and Spug) and really don't know what the fuss is about. The scans should have been posted when people recieved them and those that didn't want to see them before Monday would have the opportunity not to look at them if that's what they wish (I've managed to cope); however that's not what you initially wrote. You wrote something hugley less eloquent, erudite and clear.

The *fair* thing for Mind Candy to do would have been to lock the leaderboard
for a whole week, to give *everyone* an equal chance to get their cards.

That's just a boring child-like whine-I'm quite sure I don't remember many of them when I started.
