Some Disused office space could be mocked up to look like a hospital might be cheeper?

Well we can get Duckie to steal medical supplies for us.

I would like those things you shock people with and see what happens if you use it on a cat.

I would like to request a second and third pair please - my cats have both just expressed a desire to try the same experiment out on certain parts of Chris.

After watching "Alien Autopsy" at the weekend (Really good actually) it amazed me how regular cuts of butchers meat can be made to look like body parts. They made up a mock lab in a corner of someones living room.

If it's a close shot for the hospital scene, we won't need much space, just some carefully decorated fake walls and some surgically coloured curtains to screen off the rest of the area. Once the plot line is up and running, I can help do sketches of the scenary etc. And being a thrify madam, I'll make sure its cheap to construct. Smile

erm... possibly because they are body parts? Wink

Sorry jojojojo if I'm reading you wrong but are you suggesting using butchers' products for Monica Grand's murder? If so, as a theatre worker, I'd have to recommend stage blood instead. It's pretty cheap, easier to clean up and considerably less stinky/unhygienic.

Ditto for the rest of the scenes. I don't think anyone should worry too much about locations and scenery when writing the script. The advantage of film is that, if you can't afford a full set, you can always shoot in close up. As long as the props and costumes are convincing (and the acting Smile ) then we should be able to get away with very minimal sets.

Actually, the scene breakdown is something that is very important to the script and should be one of the main things you think about.

You should always envision your shooting script when writing. This makes it far easier on the crew. (Shooting scripts are scripts put together by scene location. For example, all INT. HOSPITAL - DAY scenes would be together, etc, even if one appears at the beginning of the film and one at the end.)

If you honestly intend to film this (especially on low/no budget, likely with guerilla filmmaking tactics), be prepared to compromise from the get-go. Unless someone jumps in saying that they have a setting for their segment ready to go, write with the theory that the setting may have to be slightly changed.

So someone dies. Do they absolutely HAVE to die in a hospital bed or can he have, for the sake of ease in filming, have gone home (be it to recover and he dies unexpectedly or maybe he's sent home to die)... Keep things like this in mind.

The biggest problem with this project is also one of the things that makes it so great - it's being done in segments by people all over the world. This means that the editors will have one helluva job on their hands. It also means the script has to be usable by absolute beginners as well as experienced people. We may even need to include some sort of primer for osme folks. It's a huge undertaking.

I think it's going to be great, though.

Sorry Fiera - I think you misunderstood me. I know the importance of a scenic breakdown - this is the field I work in after all. What I'm saying is that the writers shouldn't feel constrained (certainly not this early on in the process) by worrying about whether we might or might not be able to find suitable locations for their scenes - that would just compromise the creative process.

We don't need the entire set of ER to suggest a hospital - following from what jojojojo said and my own experience, you can suggest a location just by using a minimalist background and convincing props and costume. After all, there's no need for this film to be all gritty realism - it can be as stylised or as minimalist as we want (and given the no-budget it may well have to be).

I think the last two posts bring up some interesting points; the losictics of an international guerilla filmmaking type shoot and the necessity to think outside the box. I agree with echidna that we need to be creative and we can use our imagination and the sheer numbers of varied people from different fields that we have here to pull this thing off. I don't think there are any limits on this we have people to make it happen, and we can make compramises here and there if we need to.

The only thing holding us back at the moment is the lack of script so I'd suggest maybe morphing some of the ideas and suggestions we have here into something interesting, ultimately that's duckie's job but please all feel free to start summarising consensuses of ideas

Oh and naturally the script would be broken down by locations and also by actors segments, don't worry about the logistics at the moment-be creative. It's better to comprimise on ideas than to have unimaginitive ones!

Seeing as I work in a hospital, I really don't think it'll be a problem. There are ways and means, and pretty much every room in the place has the capability of becoming a 'ward' for a sick person should the need arise.

well, since you ask, yeah. Pietro Salk definitely died in the hospital. But I get your meaning, sure.

Yeah, you were reading me wrong, I was merely commenting on how we can improvise with a low budget. Razz

That's a relief - I was starting to envisage something out of Carrie Confused .
