Is this a rare misprint?

I was just sorting through my duplicates when I came across an unusual copy of Cube Tube.

Cube Tube card #120 is a green card.I have the pre-release version 0.5.

It should have a map piece on the back, however it has the standard backing you see on the red cards. The picture of Sente and the text for a clue bit at the bottom. The only other differance is that (comparing it to the normal version) the main puzzle colour (purple) is a lot brighter.

Is this rare? Or not?

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks to anyone who can help. Very Happy

Craig.

Don't think I'm going to answer your question with this, but I've got a couple of duplicates of this one. My 2 Pre-release version 0.5 ones have the map piece on the back.
However, I got a strange one as a freebie in my Firebox parcel the other day - it is a Wave 1 Season 1 version, and has the generic back (from red & orange cards) instead of the map. I didn't notice this until I read this post about it. The thing I did notice was that there was no silver scratch-off panel - the code is just printed on it.
As it was a freebie, rather than included in the card packs, I wonder if maybe they're chucking it in parcels to get people interested, hence the "Idiot's Guide To Getting Started" on the back. Although it seems a bit of an odd thing to do when the only things in my parcel were some card packs and the new starter pack!

Strange that you say that it didn't have a scratch panel.Mine has got it, also it's still intact.

Also, although I got it from firebox, as far as I remember It was in a booster pack.

Hmmm...........well, that seems to disprove my theory. In that case, I've got no idea! Hopefully someone else can shed some light on this.

Edit: I've just looked through the original thread for the card, and there is some mention of this. Basic explanation seems to be promo versions don't have the map.
One other thing to note is that, I think, the Pre-release 0.5 ones had the points value as 20. On my Wave 1 version this has been corrected to 30.

They aren't rare I'm afraid. Mind Candy had large numbers of six promotional cards printed (#025/#027/#041/#089/#117/#120) These were handed out at various points (CubeFest '05, London Expo, etc.) They also found their way into Firebox orders too, as freebies.

Ordinarily, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the promo ones and the "normal" ones - they all have silver strips, are all solvable, pretty much identical. However, the two green ones - "Band Name Etymology" and "Cube Tube", would have had the PerplexCity map on the rear, but for one off promo handouts and the like, it made more sense for them to issue them with the "Sente" back, which gave more game info, than just the map pieces.

They were also given away by Scarlett in packs of 100 of those cards, and lots of other cool stuff. Wink
