For people who want to listen to them, and try to identify them, but are too lazy to get out a guitar or something and work them out...

As my friends and I were trying to solve this, I recorded each of the tracks by sticking a microphone next to a piano. (We're all currently in different places... so I figured it'd be a good idea.) here they are.

http://www.srcf.ucam.org/~dtb26/1.mp3
http://www.srcf.ucam.org/~dtb26/2.mp3
http://www.srcf.ucam.org/~dtb26/3.mp3
http://www.srcf.ucam.org/~dtb26/4.mp3

I don't say what any of them are on the recordings, so you can listen to them without me telling you the answer. Also, since I hadn't worked out what the last two were by the time I recorded them, the rhythm may not be precisely correct. I'm just playing the notes as shown Smile

Also, you get to laugh at my horribly terrible piano skills and silly voice, so it's all fun, right?

I believe I am playing the third one as shown. I think. Having listened to the real song, I'm not so sure.

Absolutely ideal adhok. I'm talentless and spent about 30 mins trying to put them into a simulator which didn't sound like anything good. Cheers for the help.

its a pull off OR hammer on depending which direction your heading. the ( on its side basically means you go to that fret but dont strike the string.

14 years of guitar and counting...

www.wearefuturo.com - little blatant plug there too Wink

have to saty i loved this card - these songs are classic milestones in learning "rock" guitar !

I did it that way. So much more fun. Although the version of the first song that I learned was a bit different. I learned the numbers as 1-4-6, 1-4-7-6, 1-4-6, 4-1. Meh...

EDIT: I realize now that this was for the grand bar F chord, not just plucking strings, so that makes sense.

What's the fourth one?

Ok, so 1 and 3 were obvious, 2 took a little getting, but even after being told on here the answer to numer 4, I still don't know the song! Who's it by?

Well, it is said puzzles are more fun if you find out the answer yourself, instead of someone telling you.

So, in true PXC-spirit I'm not gonna save you the leg-work of googling "today lyrics" and checking out the first hit...this way you also won't have to wait for somebody to answer your question on this forum. Wink

Hmm

Well, I agree it's more fun, but there are many bands who've had a song called that, which is why I was asking for confirmation. PS, for those who care, it's
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

The Smashing Pumpkins

Am I the only one that thinks that was an unfair one to include? The other 3 are all considered absolute rock anthems, and that one is some obscure album track. It seems a bit of a strange choice to me.

It's not an album track, it's a single - I've got a copy of it on my shelf. It did ok in the charts (better in America than the UK) and, due to a good video, is still often played on MTV and other music channels.

I used a wonderful little program for Mac (System 8-X) called GuitarTab http://homepage.mac.com/gregrclayton

I was able to quickly put the tabs into the computer using the interface and have it play them back. My son figured out #1 just by looking at the card. I figured out #2 and #3 right away once I heard them.

#4...I'm absolutely clueless about. If someone could give me the proper tempo to play it at...that might help.

The curved line (and other symbols) are in the program, and it treats it as a note played immediately after (I don't know guitar lingo), instead of separate notes. On my tab, I put them both as 1/8th notes and the rest as quarters.
