Thought she may have visited all those countries on the card - maybe not.

These can be native to countries and again, the countries on the card are connected by this, also the ocean has a 'tongue' which apparently is about 6000 feet down.

I think we need to concentrate on the countries shown, Von's clue and the background, surely though an inspired guess will solve this soon ???

I did the usuall anagram thing of the countries letters and got Ocean out of the letters which could tie up the picture and tongue??

Hi,
Don't know if this will help, or if anyone is interested but I made a little database that you can test your guesses before you try them to see if anyone else has already tried it.

http://www.ukinetmedia.com/perplexcity/

It's only bones at the momenet, if it proves useful, I'll jazz it up a little.

Any requests or idea to make it better them PM me.

Andy.

Ok, if we're going back down the anagram route, what letters are we going to use, can we all agree which letters to use ?

Do we use the countries names in English or their own language?

Do we use both N and C for New Caledonia of just N?

Do we include micronesia?

If anyone can put up a DEFINITIVE list of letters instead of the different sets we had earlier maybe we could retry the anagram route but look for specific words such as OCEAN as suggested ??

If the letters do spell out a question then surely it must have something to do with languages, something native to the countries or something connected to the background such as the ocean, surfing, etc.

As there seems to be a big problem with the exclusion of Australia, does anyone think that maybe it's because it used to be classed as a 'continent' rather than a country? Just an idea ?????

not sure if this has been mentioned or not but if you hold the card upside down & treat America & Brazil as eyes i seem to get the form of a face of either a monkey or lizard (can't make my mind up on this yet) but if its a lizard then Russia could be its forked tongue , if its a monkey / ape type of creature then whats comming out of its mouth perhaps water or am i just going insane Sad

Today's effort lol

Has anyone tried something to do with

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
(Alfred) Nobel or Nobel prize (for literature)?

Thought it would tie in with the card title and link most of the countries even some of the lesser known ones. I still think the link is something common to the countries and NOT an anagram as has been said by many people.

As stated though, the absence of Canada, the whole of Oceania and many other 'major' countries severely limits the choices for answers, for this reason I think we can rule out anything to do with minerals, treaties, government etc as there is no link that does not include at least one of these countries.

I also wondered about Mother Theresa but thought that it would be weird without India mentioned.

AndyHall - that's awesome, in concept, but you're missing about a million other things that have been tried.

I have been trying to find commonalities between the "least" of the countries, like New Caledonia and Oman, for instance. Nothing sensible.

And I checked my mother's tongue and can confirm it is pinkish Wink And moist.

someone should try: Kanaky, kanaka - from the polynesian for human

Guesses Database

Think Andyhall's idea is really useful but agree about all the missing unsuccessful tries.

I've been compiling a list of all the unsuccessful guesses (as I expect everyone has) from the 21 pages here and some I've tried myself (but not got round to posting).

It runs to about 157 entries at the moment (though I suspect there are hundreds more) I've just sent him the list to get his database up to date.

Why New Caledonia

Can ANYBODY think of a reason why, out of the whole of Oceania only New Caledonia is included on the map ?????

What is so special about New Caledonia that it should be included when the rest of Australasia isn't?

This is really bothering me because it seems a strange inclusion especially when it doesn't seem that New Caledonia has anything unique to the area. Maybe if we could find that out we might get somewhere, just out of interest is anyone having any luck with the anagram line?

I can think of why this would matter but New Caledonia is, in fact, different from the surrounding islands in that it is not of volcanic origin, but rather is a surviving piece of Gondwanaland. Maybe this card has something to do with the pangea busines - roll back the geologic clock and where do these places start out?

But didn't we already do the pangea thing several pages ago?

On the New Caledonia idea, I have been concentrating my searches on the more unknown countries such as Eritrea and so on. Figuring if I can find out why they are included or linked to some others on the map then the more well known larger countries may fall into place.

Quite a few of the countries are mentioned here including Laos and Brazil though as usual it's only a handful of the 29 and of course France isn't on the card.

Waiting for the lightening strike of inspiration, are we sure this isn't a silver by the way Wink

Just because something is part of one card's solution doesn't exclude it from another's. For example, how many times have you seen the Fibonacci sequence, or ASCII codes? (I will admit though that pangea is slightly more obscure)

New approach - never mind the anagramming, how about just ordering? By population, GDP, UN livability index, expected age, whatever? Possibly by languages spoken. The using the first letters, maybe in the local languages . . .

errrg - has anyone tried "alphabet"

The problem with any Gondwana/Pangea type solution is the missing pieces.

For instance the whole of North Central/East North America (Canada and the US) is a single craton, as is most of africa. Europe is two or three depending on how you look at it but it doesnt differentiate between countries.

I was looking in to International Womens Day and Mother's Day yesterday. There is also a slight alignment between the countries and paid maternity leave.
